I was warmly recommended to sit down and watch this 2021 mini-series documentary, so of course I managed to find the time to do so. And yeah, I must admit that I find the whole concept of UFOs and life beyond our own little planet to be rather interesting. So I had some expectations to this documentary.
And while "UFO" certainly is interesting and entertaining, there were some nice testimonies and interesting facts brought to light by the documentary makers here. So if you have an interest in extraterrestrial matters then "UFO" is definitely well-worth watching.
Now, it should be said that his series doesn't really paint a picture that either proves or shatters the claim of UFOs and extraterrestrial life. So you should take the information disclosed here with a grain of salt of course. But, I suppose it is as Fox Mulder's poster said: "I want to believe".
The narrative in "UFO" is good and helps to make the episodes rather watchable. And I do like that there is a fairly neutral approach in the documentary making, so it is not a biased documentary that you will sit down to watch.
My rating of "UFO" lands on a six out of ten stars.

If your like me and been into ufos for decades there is not much new here . This mini series is a great show for the newbie or someone who doesn't follow the latest ufo news . Well produced and written it covers a lot the important cases of sightings .
Episode 2 has some skinwalker ranch videos I have never seen before and they blew my mind .

Well produced, except I don't like CGI re-enactments. If you have the video, show me the video. The fact is, there is only so much real footage, and so they produce this dramatic "filler." Unfortunately, it is the wide availability of CGI tools that have led to the production of so many fake videos that populate YouTube.
I also wasn't all that pleased with dropping the whole "Skinwalker Ranch" controversy into the video. We are talking about UFO's, not ghosts. The only reason I didn't take more stars away is because the honorable Senator Reid was involved. I have complete trust in Senator Reid, and I know he would never waste taxpayer money. In fact, it is Senator Reid's involvement, and not just The NY Times, that lends the most credibility to this Documentary and the whole subject of UFOs.

Whether or not UFOs exist isn't the question. Their existence is documented by film, photographs, radar, and by credible eyewitness accounts. The problem is that we just don't know what they are, who made them, and why they are in the sky,
If a new species of bird were as heavily documented by UFOs and UAPs are, biologists would be asking for grants from universities to study and name them. However, what happens in the skies of this country is the business of the US government and not colleges and universities.
The impetus for this four part docuseries was the 2017 New York Times publication of an article called "Glowing Auras and Black Money: The Pentagon's Mysterious UFO Program." The article revealed that the government acknowledges UFOs and considers them a serious enough problem to dedicate serious resources into investigating them.
The series is NOT one of the hundreds of pseudoscience on cable television programs that purport to tell the "truth" about the impending alien invasion. Nor is it four episodes of satire making fun of the people who study UFOs. In fact, it goes to great length to show to what extent the people who see UFOs are ridiculed, and to remind the viewer that "there is no more credible witness than a trained Navy flyer" while showing a radar view documenting what the Navy flyer saw.
Instead, the series is a straightforward presentation of the evidence we have, and the ragtag group of eyewitnesses, astronauts, and billionaires trying to know more. On the one hand, it's frustrating because most of us have heard at least one of the stories at one time or another. It's hard NOT to believe a Navy pilot and most of the citizens of Phoenix. It's hard to invest the time in the series and come away knowing little more than we knew going into it. On the other hand, this is a docuseries, not a Netflix sci-fi miniseries.
But, what is the alternative? The U. S. government knows but it won't, as we found out in the infamous Obama interview, tell us. Perhaps the only way to find out how this all works is to keep presenting information like this until we know.

Don't get me wrong, I nearly turned this off. It starts as many UFO documentaries do, with the usual talking heads spouting nonsense unsupported by evidence. I was distracted by my phone though so it stayed on, and wow. What a surprise. We got a rational and opposing point of view from some folk with actual critical thinking skills. Not only that, a revelation about The Phoenix Lights incident crops up, that actually cleared something up for me after more than 20 years. This series addresses both sides better than anyone has done before and lets you make your own mind up. For me though the addition of some sanity in the room for once won hands down. If you ask me, the truth isn't out there, it's right here.

It seems show after show after UFO show has been done and redone and nothing is ever added. The same rehashed videos we've all seen before, and endless interviews that change nothing.
Some hoax stuff in here yet they just leave it in? Really lowers the value of this show.
It's 2021 guys, if you don't have anything to add, don't make a show. And for god sakes leaves out the Skinwalker ranch stuff. OMG seriously.
This is just throwing everything that we know, regardless if it's been proven to be fake or not into a show and hoping nobody will notice. Good production, horrendous execution. They could make endless shows like this, always showing the same videos over and over.

If you want proof, and actual evidence with all credible witnesses and real events and accounts then this is the series for all critics debunkers and anyone interested in UAPs and UFOs. JJ Abrams is a tremendous film maker, and he did the best movie like mini series on this subject currently out. Taking events and recreating them, and showing the evidence and putting it in layman's terms so every walk of life can understand the proof and understand everything on a timeline. UAP and UFO history starting from the beginning and the U. S. Government is involved and this serirs will blow anyones mind that is curious about the unknowns of the UAP qnd UFO subject!

Finally a well made UFO documentary that doesn't jump to conclusions the way most History Channel documentaries do.
It's nice to see reporters, witnesses and politicians being interviewed instead of "UFO researchers" who are nothing more than writers trying to sell books.

Episode one blew me away and I would give it a 10 out of 10. There were a couple of known and obvious fakes but not too many. Well Episode 2 is mostly fakes and reenactments but NONE of the reenactments are labeled as such which destroys any credibility the show had. I still have half hour to go on episode 2 but I was so disappointed with the drop in quality I had to comment now. Sadly a missed opportunity to do something real for once. It's why I never watch UFO documentaries because they are all the same garbage. Episode wasn;t garbage it was well done and extremely interesting with information I hadn;t heard before. Just sad they they feel like they have to pack episode 2 full of fakes and not indicate which is which just to fill up the episodes. Seems like they put most of the good stuff in episode one and the rest has a lot of filler. Still good interviews and information but even that isn;t quite as good as episode 1. Sadly these days entertainment value comes in first, second and third. Quality is way down on the list. It's a slick show but packing it full of fakes and reenactments just makes it all seem less legit.
This show does a wonderful job looking at the UFO phenomenon critically while also putting you intensely in the shoes of those who have experienced this stuff. "UFO" also lays out all the moving parts, spinning the tales of believers and non-believers alike and leaving you astonished at the topic's complexity. Moreover, clarity is gained from this in terms of understanding why no one has solved the mystery yet. You may find yourself believing in all the possibilities without resting your stance in any one side of the issue. For example, the arguments presented for UFOS being secret government technology is very strong in this series, but that is not without marveling at the arguments for extraterrestrial origins as well. Even though I was up to date with some of the material covered in "UFO", I was glued to the screen the whole time. Finally, you will encounter some of the more exotic UFO phenomena in this series (abductions, skinwalker ranch), but I'd advise you not to turn back from this roller coaster ride just because it has a few wild turns.
This diced spaghetti salad could have been riveting, but leaving out pivotal details and voices in the UFO historical narrative weakens the arguments both for and against the phenomenon in exchange for exorbitant time spent on less significant details, but worst of all the chop suey structuring of the information in this scrambled eggs documentary makes for ADHD broken understanding that jumps from point C to point X to point L to point E to point R to point A, etc. Ever heard of a zig zag? Ever heard of a zig zag that u-turns and ties itself in knots? That's this series. Great music though...
Everything about this is garbage. It's just everything everyone has said everywhere else repeated with lens flares in every shot.

This documentary caught my eye on an Instagram ad - it looked exciting, like it might advance the UFO narrative in some way with more recent footage & evidence - and it has J. J. Abrams'/BadRobot name on it.
Sadly, none of those hopes and dreams came to fruition. As with most UFO documentaries, you are left sitting there scratching your head, or throwing your hands in the air.
Kudos to the graphics and animation team for all of the infographics and all the animated text highlighting of government documents, news articles, and book excerpts.
Congrats to the video archivists who carefully recycle the same blurry stock footage repeatedly over the course of a 4 hour documentary.
Much gratitude to the cinematographer who kept the camera shaking and filled with artificial lens flares.
The empty office building where they filmed some of the interviews added so much mystery and suspense.
If it weren't for the interview with the former Governor of AZ, and the Phoenix Lights story, it would have been a complete wash.
This is 4 hours of clickbait & fluff. I can't believe J. J. Abrams put his name on it. Skip it.

Over dramatized non-sequiturs that go nowhere. The music is so loud that it's distracting. I feel like I'm watching a music video or a preview of something. This is not a serious examination or inquiry. This is a pop culture time waster that creates the illusion of entertainment by endless intrigue and dramatic music. Viewers actually interested in this topic can find more informative sources. The information density is also very low. It's is punctuated by pretty images that don't advance the story. Of course, the story is not being advanced, as it's not going anywhere anyway. Save yourself the time and look for an alternative.
This TV series opens well, but from episode 2 onwards it becomes an exercise in debunking as many aspects of UFOology as possible, often with ridiculous reasoning presented as logical fact, and character assassinations.
This just seems to be an attempt to muddy the existing waters, and bringing nothing new. They overlay video of known hoaxes and fakes while talking to specialists in the subject, presumably in an attempt to make the interviews with specialists seem like fruitcakes.
All that time spent on the character assassination of Elizondo, Delong, yet they didn't even attempt to contact them for interview or comment. Not bothering to contact Cmdr Fravor either, just using snippets of interviews he has had with other people and using them completely out of context.
I'm surprised Mick West isn't credited.
By far and away the worst production on the subject matter I have seen since the mid 80's, it reeks of sceptic desperation, mockery and hugely uninformed calculated misinformation.
This is JJ Abram's contribution to sceptic disinformation. Think twice before streaming, renting or watching anything else he attaches his name too. Not content with ruining star trek an star wars, now he's out to get anyone involved in ufology.
Watch DeLong's "Unidentified" if you want facts, uncut interviews and accurate animated reconstructions.

What a waste of time and money coming from JJ Abrahams. Not even History Channel worthy.
I had high hopes for this documentary but it ended up being a documentary that uses opinion to disprove experience (whatever that may be).
Much of the content puts speakers with little interest or specialism in the subject on a platform to act as a expert in the field. Yet much of their 'disproval' of the topic lies in opinion with little scientific data.
Skip it or watch in the background.

The Trailer and all the episodes feature known Hoax footage as well As long identified "ufo's". So why watch any of this Cash grab? Its is not objective at all and only serves to further muddy the water. If you want to watch A good documentary on the subject choose the phenomenon. This is trash through and through. The new UFO craze is dying down now and we wont have to suffer these Cash grabs for too much longer.

I'm a UFO enthusiast but had to turn this off. As predicted the same old filler and within minutes footage that has already been debunked. Not a good sign! Did the producers not do their homework?
