Wyrms, Wyrms and more Wyrms!
contacttylerobwallispro4 February 2022
Geared up with the same playful exuberance of it's predecessor, Wyrmwood: Apocalypse boast some wild photography, gleefully crafted gore and some truely brilliant set pieces. But sadly lacks the charm and humour that helped make the first film what it was.

Protagonists of the original were sidelined and replaced for a great deal of the movie, but any new characters where given very little development. Too little to be fully invested in their archs as a whole. Which is a shame as there are some amazing new characters played by some truely talented actors.

That being said, I liked what I saw, it was a massive amount of fun and I will be watching out for more!

Less gore, more action.
paulclaassen3 September 2022
Six years after 'Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead', Kiah Roache-Turner returns as director for this sequel. The weirdness (and uniqueness) of this comedy horror franchise continues.

'Wyrmwood: Apocalypse' follows directly on 'Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead', so best to watch the first film prior to 'Apocalypse'. This film has better cinematography and better visuals. It is also weirder and funnier. And our hero, Rhys (Luke McKenzie) is mighty sexy!

After delivering a hybrid zombie to a group of ruthless people, Rhys then captures her sister and deliver her as well. However, realizing they will treat the normal sister like the rest of the hybrids, he risks his life to save her. Together with a handful of survivors they search for a cure for the zombie infection.

'Wyrmwood: Apocalypse' is not as bloody and gory as 'Road of the Dead', and has a lot more action. The film also has a very good score. This is once again a unique addition to the zombie genre.

6.5/10. Recommended

I don't remember well the first WYRMWOOD movie, however i gave a 7,1/10 rating, therefore i must have liked it very much when i watched it. 7,1/10 is a pretty high rating for a comedy horror movie, in my books.

I rated this lower but that doesn't mean much. Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is solid. I wouldn't call it exactly a comedy/horror movie like its predecessor, but it does not take itself too serious. There are some funny scenes and it's definitely enjoyable.

There are MAD MAX influences. It's not a groundbreaking movie, neither much intense. If you wanna watch a movie that will make your heart beat faster, drowning in agony, this is not it. Not great but still a good movie of this genre.

Likeable characters, satisfying ending. I was entertained.

I hate his face

Warning: Spoilers
This is an Australian zombie apocalypse film. Rhys (Luke McKenzie) goes out and gets zombies and hybrids so the military can experiment on them and look for a cure. The hybrids don't like it and fight back. Follows a 10 year old film with no flashbacks. Confusing

This is a Mad Max light with zombies. Decent horror, but boring characters and plot line. Never felt the drama or intensity.

Gide: F-word. No sex or nudity.,

Must watch for Zombie lovers...

RATED 7/10 Language: English

The sequel plot is not original like the first one. But the action and gore factor is par with the first part. The zombie gore and action blocks are unique for this movie and enjoyable one.

Must watch for Zombie lovers...

Huge downgrade compared to the original movie.
fciocca21 July 2022
What I enjoyed about the first movie was the ability to mix the zombie horror genre with comedy and it worked just great. It was not a masterpiece, but a nice and funny film. The sequel takes itself way too seriously and to be honest it feels almost nonsensical at all. Basically they threw away the winning formula and tried to do something completely different, however "Wyrmwood" was never supposed to be like that. There are a couple of good moments, but for the rest action sequences look lazy and predictable. CGI is not so great, but I can give it a pass, considering that these movies do not have a big budget. I think that focusing more on practical effects was the right choice and the final result would be a bit better. Characters were pretty much boring and forgettable. The cast is very cringey and obviously these actors don't know how to act. The villain was insufferable, I hated every single moment that he was on screen. To be honest I cannot find many positives in this sequel and it is perfectly avoidable. Personally I was perfectly content with the original one and did not feel the need for another installment, especially after so many years.

Overall Good Fun
f_brd18 April 2022
Please watch the First one before watching this one. Honestly I loved it, cheezy AF and that to me is good for a Zombie flick. The Bad Guy Doctor toally reminds me of how Jim Carry plays Dr. Eggman in Sonic The Hedgehog. I swear though there was supposed to be a series for Wyrmwood. Not sure what happened there.

I love zombie movies...but this one.....ugh
degrees-3336514 April 2022
I am normally a pretty big fan of zombie movies but this one was just a few degrees too far into the state of B-movies to be enjoyable. The acting, effects, plot...nothing worked - it was just all around bad.

Also, I have NO idea how Shantae Barnes-Cowan got a role in this - or anything. I saw her in some aussie vampire show and she was as dreadfully bad in that show as she is in this movie. Zero acting skills and screen presence.

I'd stay away from this pile of dung.

Don't listen to negative reviews!

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, it's a horror/zombie movie. Who cares about great acting? And they were all pretty decent to good. No problem with acting. The gore and action were good. If you want to watch a pretty good zombie movie, this is it. If you want to watch good acting, go watch an Oscar movie. I don't understand these idiot reviewers? Bad acting, bad storyline and so on. It's a horror movie and they expect an Oscar movie. LOL.

A confusing mess.
BA_Harrison29 June 2022
When there's a seven year gap between films, a sequel might work best as a self-contained story; failing that, it should at least ease the audience back into things - a quick recap might even be in order. Wyrmwood: Apocalypse does neither, chucking the viewer straight in the deep end, picking up immediately where the last one left off. The problem is remembering who is who, what is happening and why. That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that, even if I had rewatched the first film immediately prior to this one, I might still be struggling to keep up, the film's chaotic visual style taking precedence over narrative cohesion.

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse suffers from the same problems as director Kiah Roache-Turner's previous film, Nekrotronic: potentially cool ideas, such as a 'slave-unit' cyborg zombie controlled by a mad scientist, are wasted, the weak script, sloppy direction, rapid editing, and CGI gore resulting in a loud, gaudy mess that rarely makes sense. Was the first Wyrmwood a fluke? I sincerely hope not, 'cos Roache-Turner is clearly an imaginative film-maker and enthusiastic about his work - I just hope that he is able to exercise a little (actually, make that 'a lot') more control with his next film, Sting, which sounds like it could be fun (I hate spiders, but I love films about them!).

Enjoyable zombie action flick...
paul_haakonsen13 April 2022
Remember the 2014 horror zombie "Wyrmwood"? No? Well, I have seen it, but I can't actually remember it. But as it would turn out, then there is now a 2021 sequel to the 2014 movie. I remember that the 2014 "Wyrmwood" movie was enjoyable, and I rated it a six out of ten stars.

So needless to say, with the 2021 movie "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" being a zombie movie as well, of course I had to sit down and watch it here in 2022, as I had the opportunity to do so. And I was actually hoping that writers Kiah Roache-Turner and Tristan Roache-Turner would deliver something wholesome here.

And they did. Oh yeah they did. "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" turned out to be a fast paced and enjoyable zombie movie. It is the kind of movie where you just lean back comfortably in the seat, grab the snack of your choice, and just go along on the ride. Sure, "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" doesn't require much brain activity - pardon the pun - from the viewers, but it is an enjoyable movie nonetheless.

The storyline in "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" was good, albeit somewhat generic. But hey, this is a zombie movie meant for entertainment, and director Kiah Roache-Turner did step up and deliver. So mission accomplished. And there are some things in the storyline where the writers deviated from the generic and standard formula of how-to-make-a-zombie-movie, so love it or hate it, I guess.

The acting performances in the movie were fairly good. I wasn't familiar with the cast here, but I will say that all people on the screen definitely added something to the movie, and it was an all-round good performance throughout the movie.

Visually then "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" was good. I liked the special effects and the zombie make-up. So that definitely spoke well in favor of the movie. Good effects, good costumes, good props and sets.

If you enjoy action zombie movies, then you certainly should sit down to watch "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse", if you get the chance.

My rating of "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse" lands on a six out of ten stars, just like the 2014 predecessor.

Continuation of the same post-apocalyptic zombie story
stylss16 April 2022
Basically picks up right where Wrymwood: Road of the Dead (2014) left off and feels like just a solid continuation of the same post-apocalyptic zombie story. Equally as gorey, corny, well-shot, action-packed, and even more over the top.

If Road of the Dead was similar to Evil Dead, this is Evil Dead 2.

What Walt's Watching
waltermwilliams18 February 2022
It's been over a decade since the original "Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead" so this sequel really needed to be self-contained.

Unfortunately it's not a stand alone movie, it just picks straight after the first wrapped up....so it's confusing from the opening frame without any context.

Shame because the 2014 release broke new ground for an Australian Apocalyptic Nightmare Zombie scenario.

One of the upsides of this franchise is the number of First Nations People actors hired.

More Aussie movies should follow their lead.

For what it's worth Wyrmwood is a Biblical reference to the beginning of the end of final judgement day.

The iconic Aussie sense of humour is present in both movies along with heavy doses of violence , gore and horror!

This is not for the squeamish.

Jay Gallagher is back as "Barry" a man who had to take a nail gun to his own wife and child over a decade ago.

Bianca Bradley returns as his "hybrid" sister Brooke...complete with the Super Power of Zombie control she's a weapon.

The infamous dancing while he experiments "Doctor" played by Berynn Schwerdt is replaced by "The Surgeon" (Nicholas Boshier) as he does his best to channel evil Hugo Weaving.

Unfortunately Leon Burchill isn't back as the hilarious Benny.

Even "The Umbilical Brothers" David Collins gets a role as "Keith Head Boom".

In a slightly corny move Luke McKenzie is back as the twin of "The Captain".

If low budget Zombie infested Australian wastelands are your thing then get on board "Wyrmwood: Apocalypse", but do yourself a favour and watch the first in this series from Director/Writer Kiah Roache Turner on Netflix before booking a cinema seat.

Certainly worth a watch if you're into the Zombie genre.
deloudelouvain18 November 2022
Kiah Roache-Turner waited a while to make a sequel to Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead but it was worth it. I see Wyrmroad: Apocalypse scored a bit lower than its predecessor but to me they were equally good. Still a lot of gore, but nicely done and filmed. A lot of never-ending constant action and that's what a zombie movie needs. Not that fake crap like in The Walking Dead where the zombies looked like they could be outrun by my grandmother. Wyrmwood is a good Australian Zombie flick with some decent believable actors. Maybe the waiting time between the two movies was a bit too long but then again you could just rewatch the first one to better enjoy the sequel. The amateurs of the Zombie genre will certainly enjoy this one as well.

Wyrmwood: Okayishland
Tweetienator23 April 2022
The first one (Road for the Dead) did not work too well for me and Apocalypse does even less satisfy my craving for a good zombie movie. There is some production value and technical aspects like cam are solid, acting is okay, but I never have a moment of suspense or fear or thrill or feel something, anything. I just get served some random scenes and ideas, and many "ideas" are just copied from other movies/shows, some from the top league like The Walking Dead, and others (like using zombies for chores) from movies like Fido, not to mention those zillion underdogs I watched like Bong of the Dead. In short: there is not much new or thrilling to discover. Watchable, to a certain degree, yes, recommended, only if you are one of those guys who puts everything with zombies on this plate. Exact rate: 3.5.

Not upto the 1st part, but a GOOD SEQUEL.
MandalBros-516 July 2022
As expected Roache-Turner brothers have done their magic again. It's a sequel of Road Of The Dead, but you'll get to see a new lead in the 1st half. In the interval our heroes entered and what a great entry it was. 2 new characters are there whose stories are not told. So, while watching I was thinking, "Who are they? Have I missed something?" So, yes that was a problem.

Director brothers have again created some new things in the climax. Lastly, if we compare with the original it's not that good, but it's a nice sequel. Writing wise this franchise is brilliant, want more and more from this world, totally loving this. Will wait for the sequels.

Available on Vudu.

Zombie film with mad max style
Neptune16519 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first was absolutely very good! This is was horrible! Take Mad Max and speed it up 10 times. Ad some zombies while playing what a beautiful world and don't mind the storyline to much. There you got it, Wyrmwood Apocalypse WYRMWOOD the first movie was actually surprisingly good!! Best part of zombie apocalypse is only the beginning.. its always about survival life and death.. but after that part, the zombies just a gimmick. Man why can't people get zombie movies ain't suppose to be action movies they are more about horror and survival I hope one day we will get at least one more great zombie movie. We're the dead are a threat and nobody is going around acting like a action hero we're the zombies also look like and move like zombies I remember when zombies were rotted shuffling killers instead of this white face painted rabies acting zombies that are just sadly ridiculous. Bring back real zombies and the horror that came with them. Tired of these sadly made action zombie movies. Already watch this one , I don't like it to much screaming and blood no such a thing called a horror in this movie. Not worth to watch boring zombie movie.

Even more brains(?)
kosmasp15 October 2022
There is no wyrm in the wood - wait would that have been a better pun than the one I used in the summary headline? No pun intended might not work in this case I reckon. But the sequel we may not have expected is quite nicely done. Now it has been quite some time since I saw the original movie, but I remember liking it. It may not have had the highest budget (this doesn't either), but had crazy characters ... also true for this one right here.

We do have some characters returning, though I am not sure if most will see them or recognize them. Effects are quite good to say the least. And it remains violent and bloody, so no worries in that category. It does not have nudity if you care for that one way or another, it really does concentrate on the gore and the action! So no romance either - it may not be as good as the original but it is a fun little indie film ... well if you have the same sense of "humor" as I do and have a heart for Independent (horror) movies that is. Down under or any other place ...

Just...no!
grimsonji15 April 2022
Terrible! Bad acting, i know the actors/actresses are mostly unknown but i have seen unknown actors/actresses with a decent to very well acting! In this joke of a movie, no one act convincing! Some good costumes and practical effects and that's all! Army of the Dead is a masterpiece compared with this! So..no! Does not worth to spend your time, you'll definitely regreted it the time spending watching this joke of a movie.

It's a pearler
bazza_mckenzie0214 April 2022
Continues on the action from the classic Wyrmwood road for the dead.

Great acting Jake Ryan (watch Savage)and Nick Boshier are tops as the two baddies.

Great seeing Brooke and Barry characters back kicking arse again, new characters fit in well two top performances by Shantae and Tasia.

Sh**loads of action, not as many laughs but still a pearler of a film.

Top film got the digital n dvd on the way love it can't wait for the third.

A good sequel.
Dodge-Zombie16 June 2022
If you go into this expecting a fully serious movie with the best durection and acting you'll be disappointed. This isn't yhat kind of movie. It was clearly not even trying to be.

Its a fun easy watch that's purely entertainment and nothing more. It's amusing and that's enough.

If you didn't like the first then you won't like this. If you did then I expect you'll love this.

Mindless gore
deacon_blues-886323 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Makes no sense. Just a string of mindless gory scenes that come from nothing and go nowhere. The moral dilemma about the pills is just so absurd that it detracts from an already hopelessly stupid script. Contributes to the stereotype that Australians are of inferior intelligence and low taste. Watch the Aaron Peterson films instead. They are eminently worthwhile in stark contrast to this garbage.

Warning: Spoilers
I love post apocalyptic films (madmax, doomsday, the road, snow piercer, the day, carriers) and i love zombie films. Now mixing both together would be awesome, right? Not really.

They had to add some super power hybrid with contact lenses in there to make it cheesy. Mind control powers? Geez.... i cant even...

production value is alrite.... props look good. CG explosion quality, not so much.

And mind control powers? Really?
