Some of this TV season’s blood has already been spilled — looking at you, “NCIS: Hawai’i” — but as we head toward upfronts week, there are still a number of broadcast shows “on the bubble.”
But as the networks settle in on a diet of mostly stable franchises and fewer series pilots, there’s also less primetime schedule frenzy this year. The days before upfronts week which would normally mean a rapid fire few days of broadcast series renewals and cancellations announcements. But normal left the building a long time ago.
The broadcast network portion of upfronts has been so significantly pared down from years past that it hardly resembles what it used to be. These days, most of the broadcast networks announce renewals and cancellations well ahead of their actual presentations.
Take CBS, which has already announced its new fall and spring schedules as well as all of its renewals and cancellations.

Like the other major broadcast networks, NBC's schedule is heavily influenced by production delays due to the writers and actors strikes. However, unlike the others, NBC has new episodes of several original scripted shows ready to go. Will this give the Peacock Network a significant leg up in the ratings for the whole 2023-24 television season? How many NBC shows will be cancelled or renewed by the end? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America's Got Talent: Fantasy League, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Pd, Dateline NBC, Deal or No Deal Island, Extended Family, Found, The Irrational, La Brea, Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Law & Order: Svu, Lopez vs Lopez, Magnum Pi, Night Court, Password, Quantum Leap, Transplant, The Voice, The Wall, and Weakest Link.

It’s official — Night Court will be returning for a third season on NBC.
The renewal of the comedy sequel headlined by Melissa Rauch, who also executive produces, and the original series’ John Larroquette, was never in doubt. As Deadline reported earlier this week, the delay was caused by NBC and producing studio Warner Bros. TV going back-and-forth on the size of the order. Season 3 will ultimately consist of 18 episodes, I hear.
The contract for the series is believed to stipulate 22-episode seasons while NBC asked for a 18-episode third season, sources said. Because the sitcom, a followup to the 1984 NBC sitcom, launched in midseason 2023, its first season counted 16 episodes. Its second season, whose production was interrupted by the strikes, was comprised of 13 episodes, in line of the rest of NBC’s popular scripted series this season. Its season finale aired March 26.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the final two episodes of NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez’s second season.
Exclusive: In the blink of an eye, Season 2 of NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez has come to a close with many surprises and plenty of tears. Looking back, the show’s sophomore run bravely put many of its characters in uncomfortable situations that eventually led to growth and healing.
The final two episodes are very Mayan Lopez-focused with viewers seeing the result of her hard work and dedication as a partner, mother, daughter and friend. But to discuss things properly, let’s take a little trip back to the show’s freshman season.
When viewers first meet Mayan and her real-life/on-screen father George Lopez,—both of whom play fictionalized versions of themselves with stories inspired by their relationship—they’ve reunited after a long estrangement, much to her chagrin.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Actors George Lopez, Selenis Leyva and Al Madrigal reflected on their experience filming season two of the series Lopez vs. Lopez in their new uInterview.
The sitcom follows George and Mayan, a previously estranged father and daughter, as they make up for the lost time in their relationship. With George’s return to their lives, he becomes a dependable source of unorthodox parental wisdom for Mayan, especially regarding her son, Chance. Meanwhile, although they maintain a civil relationship, George’s former spouse, Rosie, still harbors some resentment toward him. The Lopez family perseveres through their fair share of family drama, fueled by the desire to stay on good terms.
Lopez described how he learned to make light of serious topics. “I think growing up, a lot of the times that people were losing it with alcohol, it just became funny,” he told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “My grandfather never danced.

I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Today I’m chatting with Mayan Lopez, co-creator, writer, co-executive producer and star of the NBC comedy Lopez vs. Lopez. The series starring Mayan, George Lopez and Selenis Leyva returns for its second season April 2.
Mayan plays a fictional version of herself, a modern Gen Z daughter working to rebuild her dysfunctional relationship with her old-school Latino father. She conceptualized the series from her TikTok content, which she used as a creative outlet during the pandemic.
Lopez made her television debut in Season 6 of The George Lopez Show, later participating in the conservatory program at Second City and the Columbia College Comedy Writing and Performance Program in Chicago. Her credits have since included Handsome: A Netflix Murder Mystery, Other People, Jersey and Mr. Troop Mom.

Grey’s Anatomy has been among Netflix’s top draws for a decade. Now the streamer is venturing into the medical procedural genre that has been a broadcast staple with its first original, Pulse. The series comes from first-time creator Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer) who serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside veteran Carlton Cuse. Justina Machado (The Horror Of Dolores Roach) is the first series regular cast in the show, whose first two episodes will be directed and executive produced by Kate Dennis.
Like Grey’s, Pulse will be mixing medical cases and office romances. In it, while the staff of Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center navigate medical emergencies, young ER doc Dani Simms is unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident amidst the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship.
Machado plays Natalie Cruz, a brilliant and politically-savvy doctor,...

Peacock has given straight-to-series order to Mr. Throwback, a mockumentary comedy headlined by NBA star Steph Curry and Happy Endings alum Adam Pally. The pickup for the project, from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, was announced Wednesday at TCA along with three drama series orders by Peacock.
As Deadline reported exclusively last April, Mr. Throwback was originally set up at NBC for development. A couple of years ago, NBCUniversal installed a centralized development team for NBC, the company’s basic cable networks and Peacock, with projects sometimes shepherded well into development before a decision is made which platform it would go to.
Additionally, NBC in the past year or so has taken a turn toward multi-camera comedies, which cost less to produce than single-camera shows. All of the network’s existing three half-hour series, Night Court, Lopez vs. Lopez and Extended Family,...
