The statesman whose mourning address is shown on TV footage after the Kennedy assassination is the mayor of Berlin (and later West German chancellor) Willy Brandt.
In the reception scene, a guest commented to Margaret "You are so beautiful, like Natalie Wood or something". Elizabeth Rice (Margaret Sterling) played a teenage Natalie in The Mystery of Natalie Wood (2004)
Episode directed by Barbet Schroeder, who went back as far as the 1960's, the decade of this series, although later on than this episode... two of his films had Pink Floyd soundtracks which basically became Floyd albums. He's perhaps the most "historic" director of this series, as far as cult cinema's concerned.
