Cat People ?
jack_o_hasanov_imdb22 January 2023
I expected a better documentary. It was a disappointment. It pissed me off in the first episode. It's obvious that he's a good and kind-hearted person, but the music he makes is ear-bleeding. So boring. I hate trap music. The next episode wasn't bad about the woman who used the cats in her circus show. Cats have become famous as an unteachable pet. But they aren't. The next episode wasn't bad either. It was very good that she prepared a 3D cat model. She is talanted. The next part, he is also a good-hearted person, but with bad musical taste. Another trap music lover. The next part takes place on the island of Syros. It's about two Danish couples starting a cat shelter. I think this episode was better and it makes sense. The last chapter is not about cat rescue. It was good as a youtube video, but as a documentary episode, I don't think it was. Yes, in general I did not like this documentary. I think they strayed from their point. Also, when if there is a documentary about cats, cat-loving people and cat rescue, I would like to see an episode that takes place in Istanbul.

Enjoyable Documentary Series
dixielopez-3992821 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed watching this documentary series. Even though some of the episodes show people with multiple cats (and has been voted down because of it), I want to see those Cat People that are beyond the normal cat owners, because they are more fun and more interesting. Lots of great people out there helping cats, and several episodes focus on those people. Delightful!

Mosho is the best. He is full of love, truthful to who he really is and spreads to the world how all cats deserve love. He is a real badass!!

Trust me, this show isn't just about cats.

If you're even here reading this review, you obviously love cats.

However... this isn't just another "docu-series about cats."

I have two of my own, and I'm not being bias when I say that this show was OUTSTANDING work.

Each episode brings life a new story of another fellow cat-lover, each one being from a different part of the world, and each of their stories had me so intrigued and captivated that I found myself laughing, crying, AND being tugged at my heart strings... sometimes all at once.

Cats... dogs... birds...lizards...etc.; this show absolutely NAILS IT in reminding you to appreciate what unbelievable joy having a pet, whatever pet that may be, in your life really is.

Well done to everyone involved in making this wonderful show.

Not to mention the intro is absolutely hilarious!!

Meow :)

10/10.

They throw animal rescue under the bus
daniellacat14 July 2021
Honestly all the episodes were great except the last. It seemed like they understood a true appreciation for cats and people who love them and they supported cat rescue. But then the last episode derailed everything with a non-interesting Southern California couple who support cat breeding, seemingly unaware that breeders are the cause of the millions of animals in shelters each year, many of which are euthanized. What a terrible final episode to close the show with.

Really about cat people.
erhanipekciler6 August 2021
I love everything about cats and when I saw it on Netflix I started to watch immediately. Some episodes made me cry a little because I have 2 cats and I really understand the feelings of cat owners. This is a special bound. I don't know why but only I didn't like last episode, everything was so fake in there. I don't know why I felt like that but I liked other episodes more. Especially I loved syros island! I wanna live there forever!

Scottish Fold is NOT AN ETHICAL BREED
silarcta-731-8391748 July 2021
I had to stop five minutes in. Watching someone talk about how much they love cats while showing off their scottish fold, a breed of cat that lives in constant pain due to its characteristic ears (which is why they are so 'calm'), was just deeply upsetting. If you truly love cats, you'll research what breeds are healthy and which aren't. The last thing we need is for more people to desire this unhealthy breed and encourage breeders to perpetuate this damaging gene.

I loved everything about this series. It is well made, entertaining and just delightful. The people featured obviously love their pets and I smiled the whole way through!!

Just what I needed to take my mind off the darn pandemic!

Not very flattering for cat lovers
cicojo22 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry to say but, while the intention might have good, some of the episodes of this series are not very flattering for cat loving people. I have been a an animal lover (cats in particular) all my life and I have no problem admitting that I like cats better than people. However, some of these episodes focus on rather obsessive behavior than the coexistence of people and cats and the latter's love for them. I mean, it's one thing to adore cats for what they are, dedicate your life to them and consider them a gift of nature and a whole different deal projecting your personal unacomplishments, failed ideals, whims or inability to socialize in the human society. To put it bluntly: while the couple from the Syros cat sanctuary are the real heroes in this series, the Mavi episode is saddening as far as I, a regular cat loving Joe is concerned. If you want to see a real story of the human-cat symbiosis and love, watch the Kedi documentary on YouTube. If you want to watch something really heartwarming while highly educational about cats, watch Kitten Lady's channel (also on YT).

I had high hopes...
aevaughn-7730512 July 2021
...because I am a HUGE cat lover. I volunteer at 2 different cat shelters, I have helped many a stray, and am always the one there to help a cat in need!

But...

I feel like this doc focused on the "looney" side of cat lovers. The stereotypical "crazy cat" fans. Cat ears everyday? Nope. Cat raps and songs? Nope. Take your cat everywhere and - everywhere??? Nope. Is that a niche (thing)? Yeah..it is. But I feel like this series really dealt with people who were all hurt or broken...and the cats gave them a purpose. I had hoped to see just a reg ass person who likes cats...just one. Oh well...happy to see so many people just love them and are kind to them.

WTF is this crap?!
jenny_sabina10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously!

What is this crap?

I love animals and I myself have 2 cats and use to have a dog.

But this show is just making a complete joke about people who have cats.

There is not a single episode that actually shows a NORMAL relationship between the humans and the cats. Except maybe for the episode with the women who is trying to save stray cats and give them homes. But also that episode has a problem with a dubbing echo which was very irritating to watch.

I get that there are extreme animal people out there and I guess that's fun to make a show out of those people.

But this entire show makes a big joke on all us more normal cat people.

Having a cat or loving them doesn't mean that we in general are over the top idiots.

I love my cats and would do anything for them. All life on earth matter. And I give them love and a great home but without acting like a child trying to dress a doll or treat them as humans.

I believe to give my cats a natural environment and to let them be what they are, which is intelligent and very majestic creatures. I let them roam outdoors and yes they are castrated and fully vaccinated. By letting them be what nature made them with the instincts etc...there is a massive amount of respect and love without needing it to turn it into a circus.

This show is hands down insulting.

Giving people a false impression of how cat people are.

Seriously, get a grip Netflix!!

You should at least try to show a more fair picture. In all those episodes I didn't see a single resemblance to myself or to a lot of other people I know who have both dogs and cats.

For everyone out there and who's actually reading this review - what Netflix shows here is NOT how most people with cats are!

Very touching
KittyKatGrandma28 August 2022
I adored this. I have 5 cats and a rescue dog. I do not believe in breeding animals when so many animals are homeless and need care. Altho I understand why people do buy pets because rescue facilities can be difficult. Wanting to inspect your home, sign 30 pages of garbage, want you to be home 6 hours a day and one place in my area wanted to charge me a viewing fee. WTF? So I can look at the animal!

This series was great, I sure wish we had a catch and release program here, but the van I would take my kitties to started charging more than a vet.

It was touching to see so many wonderful people out there who do everything to help. So what if the guy raps about cats? Better than some other filth I hear in rap songs.

Emotional, Explorative, Expressive
JoshuaMercott14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When Moshow the 'Cat Rapper' started doing his thing at the beginning of this 6-episode documentary, it set an interesting tone for what was to come.

Episode 1 of "Cat People", 'Cat Rappers Delight', was a cool unconventional way to start a show that centres on 'cat people'. Most of us have at one point or other associated cat-owners, who also happen to love their feline companions, with lonely old ladies. In truth, there's so much more to being a cat person than meets the eye. This documentary has captured the essence of that in all its feline splendour.

The show's creator Glenn Zipper did a brilliant job highlighting the 'best of the best' cat-person stories with emphasis on everyday experiences. The docu isn't about millionaires throwing their cash on lavish cat pads or giving their felines excessive royal treatments. This season covers what everyday people - feline enthusiasts, to be precise - do to keep their kitty-buddies happy, productive, and pampered in their own ways. Some of them gained fame because of it.

The "Cat People" documentary on Netflix breaks several prominent stereotypes. It did it using real life people who brought a beautiful blend of humanity to each of the six episodes (30min each, give or take). Each one featured a new person, and their cat-story.

The cats were, paws down, the scene-stealers. Who but those who adore cats (and animals, in general) would even sit to watch this captivating take on cherishing, coddling, and caretaking one's cats.

Episode 2 of "Cat People", 'The Cat Show Must Go On', was quite educational for me. Up to that moment, I was of the opinion that cats cannot truly be trained, for the same reason that they remain one of the few species in the world that cannot be completely domesticated - like dogs have been. But to earn the trust of a cat... Wow. Ladies and Gentlemen, The AcroCats!

Episode 3 of "Cat People", 'Copycat', contained a refreshingly artistic peek into the work of self-made Japanese artist and YouTuber Sachi. It taught me some interesting facts about 'Wakuneco' (i.e., 'Cat in a Frame'), and the amount of skill, effort, and emotion that goes into crafting those 3D felt-sculpture cat portraits. We "see" you, Sachi.

Episode 4 of "Cat People", 'Paws for the Cause', is the sort of episode I was hoping would be part of this documentary. It features cat rescue stories that need to be told, especially how many cats are still out there in need of help. Several cat-rescue cases have to do with negligence or abuse from people. It therefore warmed my heart to see other people countering cruelty where they can.

Sterling "TrapKing" Davis is doing some great work in the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) sector. The fact that he had an abusive (physical) childhood makes his cat-rescue efforts all the more admirable today. Then there's Sarah Bergstein, founder of 'Mr. B's Random Acts of Kindness', and her partner Chris Hoyler. Their work helping neglected cats is exemplary.

Episode 5 of "Cat People", 'God's Little People', features a cat-rehab-adoption-TNR sanctuary, after the same name as the episode. The non-profit serves as one outstanding example of what this documentary is all about. Its co-founder Joan Bowell does bold and outstanding work that benefits hundreds of cats in her region. She practically gives them a voice, and hope. Through her actions, Joan proves that cats are not pests to be swatted or hated, but soulful and proud animals with whom we share this planet, and who have as much right to be here as we do.

Episode 6 of "Cat People", 'Catwabunga!', introduced me to Surfer-Cat Maverick ("Mav"), and I have never been the same since. This cat not only feels comfortable surrounded by (or immersed in) water, he also literally surfs on it. His owner Kayla Tabish and her partner Nick Liam seem quite proud of treating this Bengal like he's part of their family, and he sure is.

Kayla's personal story of how Mav saved her from depression is added proof - in a long line of existing facts on the subject - that these (and other animals) are therapeutic in the most sublime ways. I especially enjoyed all the pertinent Bengal-Cat facts she shared - most useful for interested buyers of exotic breeds to know beforehand.

This final episode highlighted the prevailing problem with how people - specifically cat owners - actually see cats. They just buy or adopt them only to dump or abandon them later. Many even start complaining about their felines when in truth the human equipped with high-order thinking didn't take ten minutes to do research on the kitty they were interested in bringing home.

This last episode holds, I believe, a fundamental reminder/lesson for not only animal lovers in general but cat people in particular.

"Cat People" season-one Netflix is guaranteed to convey the truth that no matter where you're from, who you are, or what you've experienced growing up, you can still find room in your heart to love animals, in this cats. The love those animals give back in return helps you retain (perhaps even regain) your humanity.

Netflix "Cat People" uplifts the meaning of pet ownership. The show is designed to teach us that these animals are more than just furry companions, they're family. Each cat - let alone each animal on this planet - has a personality that is unique to them. Learning to recognize and respect this fact is at the heart of what "Cat People" on Netflix is all about.
