Wow Wow Wow!

Amazing story about a young lady with plenty of courage, strength and wit. Never underestimate your strength no matter the circumstances.

Such a great film! Imani's story is inspiring to anyone going through adversity. You can feel her pain and struggle throughout each scene of the movie. Her journey to adulthood is heartbreaking. As a young adult she is still trying to navigate life and past trauma.

I appreciate the raw honesty of the storyline. Mental health, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual assault in the black community are often taboo. Kudos to everyone involved in creating this project! This film is the front runner for breaking down generational barriers and stigmas.

Great Watch !! Sequel please !!!

Imani story was a very great movie. I like the fact that it hits close to home. You could feel the emotion through the screen from the characters. This is definitely a great watch ! I'm hoping for a sequel:) Imani went through a lot in the movie and I loved how the story kept going back to her past showing what lead up to what was going on currently. There's many others who experienced what she did in the movie ! Jamel Furlow is a phenomenal writer and I look forward to more movies from him!!! Nowadays many movies are too fictional but his movie was on point and very thought out you can tell that he worked very hard on this movie and did not rush it!

WE NEED A SEQUAL!!!!

OMG!!!! For it to be the writers first movie production, is awesome! He has allot of potential in his work. I usually do not look at movies or picture request but my Bae and I spent our quality movie time watching this masterpiece. We are so wanting the writer and creator to make a part two. I wonder if he has written a book because it gives that type of feel. Like he written a book, then decide to take it to the screen. We do not know this writers time schedule, but can he fit in to create a part two? LOL! Many successful blessings, and with many other productions like this; I can see him up there with all the greats! Well Done Sir!

I'm posting about this movie to get others to watch.

Good Story

This movie explores a little bit of everything. There were so many elements that people could relate to - from sexual trauma to PTSD to mommy and daddy issues and the list goes on. Would love to see some of these explored in more depth in a possible sequel. Shouts out to the writer and director, the actors, and everyone else involved; y'all really made this come to life.

A few constructive critiques:

• I wanted to see the relationship between Imani and her guy friend explored deeper. Their relationship was kind of left on a hanger.

• The sound was off at some points
• There were so many topics explored in this film. Again, I would love to see maybe more focus on 1-3 specific topics to really captivate the audience.

I would say this movie has definitely contributed to my healing and helped me think about other trauma (ie: male sexual abuse) that I hadn't considered before. Thank you for that <3.

Good movie

I enjoyed this movie - it was really put together nicely. The topic is a sensitive one that brings awareness to the audience with compassion yet reveals the grittiness of the trauma set upon the victim. The scenes were filled with a variety of emotions and dipped between empathy and anger, and back to compassion and suspense. The cast was brilliantly selected - Malik was the best! All the actors/actresses really dived into their roles. However, although Imani's character was somewhat reserved, I think the actress could have added a bit more action to her role equivalent to that of a teenage girl. But with all the trauma she experienced, the character was perfectly in line to have limited animation. Actually, her ability to dominate the grief of this role was fabulous. The supporting actors were great. Malik added a personable, likeable edge in his character. The actress fabulously played her role of an angry and ignorant mother, self-absorbed into her own world. As for the dad, he had a caring, nurturing role but for me the actor could have expressed a bit more fatherly instincts through his gestures, facial expressions and emotions. He wasn't horrible, just not great.. but good. All in all, this was a great movie with a lot of ups and downs and a huge dose of reality. I would have liked to see just a little more liveliness in Imani too but overall just a great movie! I gave 8 stars. I recommend you watch this movie.

What a great movie!

This movie is a great watch! I truly enjoyed it because the main character Imani is a smart, artistic but very resilient young lady. She struggles to overcome alot of trauma from her rough past. Her story is raw, real and mirrors so many stories of the youth in todays world. Like many of us, her feelings, her actions and her decisions all stem from her up bringing.( sometimes that could result in good or bad) I appreciate how it all concluded to her getting on the road of healing. The writer and director did an awesome job with this film. Im definetly looking forward to a part 2 or a spin off to this movie.

Heartfelt Story

This movie touched my heart in so many ways. Being a black girl once myself and learning how to navigate life pushing through every trial and tribulation. Imani is such a relatable character and you want her to win and overcome every obstacle she faces within this film. The pace and unveiling of her truths and the experiences that shaped her were thought out so well and executed appropriately. The use of New York as a backdrop was very nostalgic and so raw.

I'm glad someone has brought back a film that told a story in the most authentic way. I look forward for more films from Jamel Furlow and the production team. Beautiful job.

Thought provoking and well done!

Imani's Story was a great telling of a woman who's trying to make it in this world full of possibilities, but seemingly not enough for a black girl in hard circumstances. I loved the vunerability and raw emotion that was displayed by the main characters. We rarely get to hear about abuse from the male's perspective, that was portrayed well in the film. I walked away wondering if Imani got her true happy ending. I believe this story will hit home for people who've walked some difficult paths in life and overcame them. This is a great film and I hope people walk away inspired and thinking about life differently.

Heart Wrenching True Story

I appreciate films like this because they tell stories that are realistic that many people of all ages go through even when it is hard to watch. I appreciate how many different stories were told in one amongst each of the characters. Here's a few I noticed:

1. Molestation and not getting help from those you tell.

2. PTSD associated with losing a loved one.

3. PTSD from the military and the ongoing struggles of our armed forces.

4. Resorting to crime because you need to take care of your family.

5. High esteemed community members/clergy who prey on children.

Imani's story is heart wrenching and I could feel her pain through the entire script. While there is not always a happy ending, I appreciate the beauty in her story as she worked through so many of her battles. It's realistic, it's eye opening and it will open the door for many of those going through similar things to find their own healing. The cinematography was very well thought out and both actors who played Imani and Malik were fantastic. I admire this piece of work and I'm excited to see what is to come from Mr. Jamel Furlow. Imani's story is so many other's stories and we need more of this.
