The marquee of the Vinton Street Theater's Center For Performing Arts, the venue of the community theatre musical that Julie Teeger is performing in, reads "Showtime! The Vinton Street Players Go Broadway!" The solo number that she sings, "Away," is an original song written by series creator Andy Breckman for an earlier work of his from 1994, "Proud Dad".
The second of two times where Adrian Monk goes to the theater. The first was Mr. Monk Goes to the Theater (2003)(#2.6). In fact, the other time, Cheryl Fleming (Sharona & Gail's mother) guesses that Gail got a bad review. Here, Julie Teeger really did get a bad review. Also both times the on-stage performer is a direct relative of Adrian Monk's assistant.
Erin Cahill and Keith D. Robinson both played Power Rangers characters: Erin Cahill was the pink Power Rangers in Power Rangers Time Force (2001) and Keith Robinson was the green Power Rangers in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue (2000).
When Monk goes to the station to pick up Natalie after she has been arrested, there is a poster to the left of Randy on the wall. This is the same poster that Monk brought to his new job in Mr. Monk Goes to the Office (2005), which says "You don't have to be crazy to work here... but it helps."
