This episode features John Cena, a WWE pro wrestler, and is one of the first episodes in the series to do this as the network Psych aired on, USA Network, was also host to the WWE's shows. Because of this, throughout the episode, the characters make multiple references to WWE and pro wrestling. And because Psych was a guest host to John Cena, WWE allowed James Roday and Dule Hill to guest host Monday Night Raw around the time of this episode's air date.
Shawn jokes about pitching the idea of "Army Psychic" as a television series to CBS. This is another thinly veiled joke aimed at CBS's own fake-psychic series (and purported "Psych" rip-off) "The Mentalist."
After being arrested for sneaking onto the base. Gus says he respects all branches of the military. After which Shawn replies "except the Coast Guard. Did you see the guardian?" Dulé Hill had a small role in the film.
The soldier questioned at the motor pool has the name "Tuke" sewn onto his fatigues. This in-joke is highly appropriate, as Simon Tuke is the costume designer for the series.
When Gus is doing pushups, he says "I got no where else to go" which is from An Officer and A Gentleman.
