Disputes over his salary caused him to file a lawsuit and, as a result, decline opportunities to return for earlier sequels when offered. However, after the lawsuit was finally settled out of court, Elwes agreed that he would return for, what was thought to be, the final entry in the series. This is the last time Elwes appeared in the series.
