Just so bad.
Patient44414 November 2023
Highly unoriginal! The plot is exactly what you get from the description and nothing more.

It is one of those movies that are painfully to watch and you keep checking the run time to see just how much more you have to endure. It really is a test of patience and will, one that I passed barely, with some breaks, checking the phone and rolling my eyes about 100 times.

I simply found nothing to like about it, it's not even so bad it's good, no horror, action, tension, interesting characters, dialogue, just a freaking bone would have suffice. Sadly, no such thing here. And what is happening with Tyrese Gibson, how did he end up hin this one. I don't consider him a good actor but surely he can do better than this. He had made a name for himself.

Anyway, back to Squealer. Such a waste of time really, if any effort was put into this, I don't know where it went. Very dry movie that leaves you with that memorable quote 'I'm not gonna get these 90 minutes back'.

Cheers!

A Film Based On Canadian Serial Killer Robert Picton.
meddlecore28 November 2023
Squealer is a serial killer film, whose story is loosely based on the Robert Picton case.

It's not exact portrayal, or anything.

But the similarities are clearly there.

Anyone from Canada will clearly recognize this.

Especially because Ronnie Gene Blevins looks remarkably similar to him, here.

Picton was a pig farmer- known as "The Butcher" or "Pigman"- who preyed on drug addicted prostitutes from the poverty stricken East Side of Vancouver.

And was one of the most prolific serial killers in Canadian history.

Like in the film, after killing his victims...he would dismember, and feed their remains to his pigs.

Possibly after eating bits of their bodies, himself.

The creators have obviously taken their own artistic liberties with his story.

Adding in an extended crime aspect, some drama, and a criminal investigation angle to it.

But the basis for it all won't escape the observations of any Canadian viewers, who were privy to news coverage throughout the 2000s.

Where the story dominated the news cycle.

The role played by Kate Moennig is also based on a real person, Dinah Taylor.

Who was Picton's main accomplice in the killings.

She would introduce Picton to many of his victims, in exchange for drugs.

Whose promise was the lure she'd use to get the girls to come to Picton's farm.

The woman who escapes from him at the beinning of the film is based on a real person, as well.

The pseudonymous "Ms. Anderson", who testified about escaping from Picton's farm in handcuffs at his trial.

While the Lulu character played by Christina Gonzalez is somewhat based on Monique Wood.

Another woman who would testify, about her interaction with Picton, at his trial.

In regards to production...sure, it's kind of a low budget effort, with heavy made-for-TV vibes.

As if it were a Lifetime movie, or something like that.

But the acting in it is surprisingly decent, across the board.

And it does have a subtly creepy vibe going for it.

But it's not overtly scary.

And acts more like a biopic, than it does a horror.

I also love how they make the unsung hero, of the whole ordeal, iconic Canadian actor Graham Greene.

Who does a great job as the doctor, whose observations break open the case.

While by no means a masterpiece, in any conceivable facet.

It's certainly a competent, and entertaining, low budget biopic.

That is likely to resonate with Canadian viewers.

Even if American viewers aren't able to recognize the connections to the actual case.

The bit where the pigs maul the dude is hilariously absurd though.

4.5 out of 10.

Low budget, poor acting.
terriloveorhatebrooks24 February 2024
First off, why was Tyrese even in this movie? His role in the movie was meaningless. In my opinion, Tyrese parts in the movie was boring filler. The arrogant role he played was seriously pointless.

Let's tackle the drug addiction part of the movie since the women that was murdered was addicted to drugs and prostituted. The writers could have done better. Some of the women didn't look the part. They did something to their teeth to make them look terrible and called them drug addicts. Lol I'm laughing while writing this review.

Seriously though, their teeth matched the part, but their bodies surely didn't.

The Emergency call doctor didn't play the role right. I honestly think the acting and the scrip was terribly done.

There was nothing unique about the movie. Drugs. Prostitution. Relationship problems. And murders. It lacked creativity and realistic roles to the situations they tackled.

The bar tender was probably the best actor in the entire movie.

Had me Squaling for Wasting an hour and forty minutes of my life watching this garbage!

What a horrible movie. The acting was horrid & the story was cheesy. The only parts of this movie that had any meat to it were the bloody gore scenes. I'm almost shocked that Tyrese Gibson had any part in this movie. Not saying Tyrese Gibsson's a great actor but he makes the rest of these people in this movie look like amateur high school drama students. It'll definitely have you squealing for wasting 1 1/2 hrs of your life watching this hot garbage! I did see this movie from beginning to end out of curiosity to what was going to happen but it literally took me a week turning it off & back on resuming where I left off because I couldn't stand watching it for any more than 15 to 20 minute durations.

Squealing to turn it off
abrns4 December 2023
Whilst the idea of another serial killer film doesn't bother me, the blatantly overuse of every b movie murder film cliche by the terrible writer does bother me very much.

Bearing in mind it is a straight to DVD / Streaming service movie, it still falls well below par of that segment of the market that is being currently driven by intelligent film students and people early in their careers who are learning to hone their craft, and.............they are doing it very well!!! Sadly unlike the makers of this movie.

It's a very staid and predictable storyline, no amazing twists and everything is predictable, it's almost like the writers just can't be bothered anymore with the ever growing crop of remakes.......and this rubbish. Come on writers, we your viewing public deserve better!

It is performed by actors that are usually good solid performers, finding them in some TV movies and also some of Amazon Primes best series. The trouble is the director seems to have really got the least out of his performers possible. In fact, maybe the director got the nearest toddler to direct it for him instead. Maybe he used the writers toddler to direct it as their skills seem to be about level after all.

The really sad thing is it wouldn't have taken much to turn this into a watchable movie, even a good one. In it's current state it is definitely one to avoid! Do not waste your hour and thirty plus minutes. Use it for something more exciting like watching paint dry.

Killer sausages
okpilak24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"Join us. What's the worst that can happen?" A pig farmer makes sausages, and he has a way of imparting a unique flavor to the meat. He looks like a bum, but is actually quite rich. But he likes what he is doing. Apparently based on a real serial killer. In the small town, the police department seems quite inept, and the main police role, Jack, is always wearing his ballistic vest, even when he is only working behind the desk. Young girls keep disappearing but since they are hookers and drug addicts, there really isn't that much of a concern in finding out what happened. So for the most part, it is a rather mediocre movie about a serial killer who finds young women, gets them to smoke drugs and then dismembers them. There is a social worker, Lisa, who is trying to find out what is happening. I might have given it 4 stars if I was generous, but at the 1:24 mark, a person does something that is so stupid that is it beyond belief. It leaves one wondering what was the script writer thinking as it made no sense.

Hard Garbage
blacksmagic3414 January 2024
This was absolutely the worst movie I've ever watched in my life. Tyrese must have been really hard up fort money or TV time. And I can't believe Theo Rossi went from Sons of Anarchy to this pile! I'm thinking of filing a lawsuit to get pain and suffering and the time of my life lost watching this trash. The best part of the movie was the credits. I don't know what was worse, the crusty teeth, or the acting. The towns population is 34. Apparently 28 are proatirutes, 5 are cops and one is a doctor. I think they spent their whole props budget on those rotten chiclets. Was this produced during the writer's strike? Thank God it's over!!

I Like Scooby Snacks
nogodnomasters19 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Squealer (Ronnie Gene Blevins) is an unkempt pig farmer who feeds his animals human meat and also makes sausages out of humans. Most of his victims are prostitutes and drifters so no one knows or cares when they go missing. They just move on. He is helped by Earline (Kate Moennig) who helps him get girls. Investigating the killing of a recent girl who escaped the farm, is Lisa (Danielle Burgio) a social worker whose separated husband Jack (Wes Chatham) is a police officer. Theo Rossi plays an over-dressed bad guy with high power cross-bow.

There is a brief flashback scene of the Squealer with his mother. The plot and acting simply go through the motions. The sausage should have been a big deal in town like the meat in Motel Hell. Never got into the poorly developed characters. The Jack-Lisa drama was a distraction. I fell asleep once.

Guide: F-word. Nudity.

Terrible
jamesmitchell-7204629 January 2024
What can I say about this movie I will start by saying an hour and thirty minutes of my life I will never get back, actually thought it might be not too bad but you would think tyres Gibson is one of the main characters as he is front and centre on the movie cover and I don't think he's too bad of an actor but he's got a total of about 2 minutes screen time in the whole movie and he only interacts with about 3 people and actually contributes nothing to this film at all so give it a miss people like I should have done, cannot believe how bad this movie actually is and how so very predictable too.

What's worse than Terrible?
ballitup-4351825 February 2024
Peacock has actually made some decent original content. Both TV series and movies. But this was sooo bad. Like embarrassing awful. I had watched some previous Peacock originals and was surprisingly impressed. Then I saw some recognizable names in this movie: Amos from The Expanse, Juice from Sons of Anarchy, Tyrese.. should be decent enough right? Wrong. Have I met the ridiculous minimum character standards yet? No? Ok fine, 170 more to go... The writers must have been fresh college grads because this movie was cookie cutter from the jump. Dialogue was less than amateur. Film lens was cheap. Clearly low budget. Character limit met. This movie sucked.

This little piggy needs to be in theaters!!
horrorhomo22 November 2023
I see A LOT of negative reviews for this movie and I am not getting it. I absolutely LOVED this movie!! Based on the Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton who killed 26 women in the mid to late 90's. I thought it was well acted with Ronnie Gene Blevins stealing the show in the role of Squealer aka the pig farmer with a dark secret. Judging by the movie poster it gives the impression that Tyrese Gibson is starring but he has a minor role and his character or acting doesn't add to the movie. But there really isn't a bad performance from anyone in the cast.

My only complaint is the use of CGI blood towards the end of the movie. It is really REALLY cheesy looking. Truly, that is the only negative I have for Squealer. Do the characters make some dumb choices?.....Yes but it was still an awesome movie. This was 100 times better than Pig Killer which recently came out, also based on the Pickton killings.

Ever hear a turkey squeal?
jonathancanucklevine21 December 2023
Exactly. Even for someone who can dig splatter and exploitation, this one really was a waste of film stock and everyone's time. As others have noted, it's based on the Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton, and yet again we're treated to the fiction that it takes place in the US (yes, it was filmed in New Mexico, but so what?) because... because why? Because they don't want to shatter everyone's belief that all Canadians are *nice*? Trust me, they aren't - I've been in a room (twice, in fact) with Kevin O'Leary. But I'll not go off on that tangent. The point is that they could have stuck closer to the actual story and probably improved the movie, because it really wouldn't be possible to make it any worse. Some of the facts of the case are much creepier than they portrayed, such as the Pickton farm actually being very close to the populated areas that had grown around it rather than way out in the country as suggested in the movie. And everything about where he lived and what he did was far more squalid and creepy than portrayed, as much Ed Gein and Texas Chainsaw Massacre as forensic procedural, as the poice and MEs spent *years* sifting through the muck in search of DNA traces of the dozens of women who had been killed. It's as though the filmmakers chose to pick the least interesting path through the entire story. I dunno how Graham Greene got roped into this.

So why a 2 instead of a 1, which is the lowest rating I use (I won't do 0 because they aren't counted)? Nudity. The braless cop was a treat and the victim with the pierced nipples was impressive, though I'm pretty sure those were prosthetics. See? I can be cerebral and shallow at the same time. Anyway, I watched this one so you don't have to. There are other movies based on this story that are worth the time.

Oink, oink, such a pig of a movie.
hiramthreets18 November 2023
Tyrese Gibson talent was wasted in this film. Maybe he should stick to singing. This genre of film i do like, reminds you of classic movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and so many others. But the problem is the budget, it is made cheap and that sets the bar real low. Money and big budgets sets a different standard on how a movie turns out with the viewers. The story and acting sets the tone as well. It could have been so much better, i love Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson and I'm surprised they weren't a leading role in this film, since they have been doing low budget movies for quite some-time.

So bad
UniqueParticle6 March 2024
Easily one of the worst horror movies which is unfortunate from the cast, directing is awful and there's been much better on peacock! I would appreciate the movie more if several known actors weren't involved really peculiar for a B-Movie. Probably the most likable aspect is the killers are kinda cool. The acting and cinematography is uncomfortably it seems like would've made more sense to have released many years ago before some of the known actors like Tyrees Gibson, Theo Rossi and and the older gentleman I've seen before too. Whole thing is weird to me and genuinely doesn't belong on peacock, deserves the low ratings!

bad B-movie
SnoopyStyle4 March 2024
A naked woman escapes from pig farmer Theodore (Ronnie Gene Blevins). An elderly RV couple rescues her and brings her to the hospital to be treated by doctor Joe (Graham Greene). Social worker Lisa (Danielle Burgio) is trying to befriend the local prostitutes who are being hunted by serial killer Theodore.

This seems to be loosely based on Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton although I don't think he had a female accomplice. The main commonality is that they both own big pig farms. There are some good actors here and they're fine. Ronnie Gene Blevins delivers a good creepy killer. The filmmaking is inferior. I don't like the camera or the general directions. The film loses me with the crossbow guy who seems to come out of a different movie. This is a bad B-movie.

Don't waste your time
Wanda102021 April 2024
I was just looking for something to watch on Peacock and this kept popping up. I figured well I at least know one actor in the movie; so it can't be too bad? I was wrong. The actor was barely in the movie. I know it's loosely based on a Canadian serial killer. The acting was terrible, this wasn't even a B movie it was just garbage. The killer looked like a Temu version of Buffalo Bill, the social worker dressed up like a prostitue was ridiculous, you have a cop that walks around braless the whole movie and I'm pretty sure I seen a cop that is a little person trying to break up a fight. This movie is all over the place. Don't waste your time, find something better.

Really bad xxx film 😂
mracarlton20 April 2024
We had to turn if off its so bad! Avoiding cinematic disasters is a horror movie fan's essential skill, and "Squealer(2023)" is a textbook example of why. This nonsensical mess tries to mash together scares and softcore pornography, resulting in a film that's neither arousing nor frightening. The plot is threadbare, the acting is atrocious, and the special effects look like they were done by a bored teenager with a home video camera. Even the promised nudity is underwhelming, thanks to grainy camerawork and an unconvincing cast. If you're looking for genuine chills or something titillating, you'll be sorely disappointed by "Squealer(2023)" This one's best left unwatched.

Warning, watching this film will make your eyes bleed...
mdhayes-096849 March 2024
I seen Graham Green and I had to watch it just because he's my favorite actor, but daaaamn this movie was terrible, the director wasn't doing much directing, I think he just wanted to see bare breast, there were so many things they missed, did they even review what they filmed before calling it a wrap? I noticed small details, like why is squealer shifting so damn much?! On a highway... he put it in reverse! And the leading lady... seriously ? I guess Jack liked those cougars. She looked 20 years older than him. And props, they were there a second ago, then suddenly back again? Omg the whole production of this film seemed rushed, did anybody working on it even care? Why release it? Is this the kind of crap that's on the entertainment menu for the future? I understand it's low budget, why spend all that money on known actors then? Ya know what... I'm sorry you quit your day job to make films, but you all need to DO BETTER! I don't think it could get much worse than this. Please understand it is not the actors fault, this is targeted at those behind the scenes. I've seen better from YouTube creators. You all need to get right with the creator for cursing us with this garbage!
