Director Mary Lambert delivers yuletide warmth and heartfelt cheer to Netflix subscribers with “Best. Christmas. Ever!” The story centered on two women rediscovering their strength and sparkle by mending their fractured friendship finds the correct balance of cynical and saccharine without upsetting the scale. The streamer’s practically patented brand of holiday hijinks is amped up to a ridiculous degree as the hyperbolic title would suggest. Even so, its absurdist lunacy acts as a Trojan Horse containing genuinely meaningful sentiments on forgiveness, happiness and bittersweet sorrows — universalities people tend to reflect on as their year comes to a close.
Charlotte Sanders (Heather Graham) dreads Christmastime because it means her former college bestie Jackie Jennings’ (Brandy Norwood) annual newsletter is on its way. It’s filled with obnoxious lingo and humblebrags about the Jennings family’s successes, and Charlotte can’t help but feel inferior, unfavorably comparing it to her own harried life as a wife,...

“Red Notice” may not have been favored highly by film critics, but Netflix subscribers seemingly can’t get enough of the comedy-action movie or its A-lister cast including Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. The Rawson Marshall Thurber feature was, for the third week in a row, at the top of Netflix’s weekly global streaming lists for English-language movies in all 94 countries.
As of Nov. 28, the film has registered 328.8 million hours viewed since its Nov. 12 release, Netflix said. The film, which has a Metacritic score of 37, has officially surpassed Netflix’s former No. 1 film, Sandra Bullock’s “Bird Box,” which scared up 282 million hours viewed in its first 28 days, by the streamer’s accounting. “Red Notice” was produced by Hiram Garcia, Johnson and Dany Garcia of Seven Bucks Prods., Beau Flynn’s Flynn Picture Co. and Thurber’s Bad Version.

“Red Notice,” the art-heist thriller starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, is set to become Netflix’s most-watched movie in its first 28 days of release.
The film broke into Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular English Films of all time this past week, registering 277.9 million hours viewed since its Nov. 12 release — and it has hit the No. 2 spot in just 10 days. That puts it on pace to surpass the current No. 1 holder, Sandra Bullock’s “Bird Box,” which scared up 282 million hours viewed in its first 28 days. In addition, for the second week in a row, “Red Notice” cracked Netflix’s Top 10 in all 94 countries.
Evidently boosted by the popularity of “Red Notice,” Johnson-starrer “Central Intelligence” (14.91 million hours viewed) and Reynolds’ “6 Underground” (7.77 million hours) both broke into the Top 10 English films for the week of Nov. 15-21.

“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony/$19.99) hits home platforms this week after its eighth weekend exclusively in theaters. It will very likely lead charts in upcoming weeks, with, among top titles still to come, Marvel’s “The Eternals” not announced and not likely to be available for home viewing before Christmas.
Meanwhile, two other top fall releases, both at $19.99, share the top position at the moment. “No Time to Die” (United Artists) and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (Disney) both took #1 spots among the three charts below. Both were made available last week, with initially the Bond title atop across the board.
That makes sense for “No Time to Die,” especially because of its early (31-day) PVOD release and older, still theater-averse audience. But the strong showing of “Shang-Chi” stands out as a sign of strange times where decision makers look for guidance of what strategies to pursue.

Who would have guessed, back in 2018, that The Princess Switch would turn out to be a full-fledged holiday franchise for Netflix? This year marks the third installment in the series, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star. Will this be the final movie, or is a fourth installment on the horizon? Truthfully, it's still too early to say.
Back in 2020, Entertainment Tonight reported that a third movie had been green-lit before the second one even debuted, which seems like a good sign that Netflix values the Princess Switch franchise. No such announcement has been made ahead of Romancing the Star's Nov. 18 debut, meaning that a fourth movie probably hasn't been decided on just yet. Most TV shows and movies don't get picked up for new seasons or sequels until weeks or even months after the prior installment's debut, so the fate of the Princess Switch series is still up in...

Brooke Shields is trying her hand at a holiday-themed rom-com on Netflix, and we could not be more excited.
The TV veteran will co-star on A Castle for Christmas on the streamer, opposite Cary Elwes, and if the first trailer is any indication, the movie will be a lot of fun.
The Netflix original movie follows an American author, Sophie (Shields), who makes her way to Scotland, and immediately falls in love with a castle.
Unfortunately, the owner, a Scottish Duke named Myles (Elwes), does not want to sell to a foreigner. The duo butt heads as they try to come to some sort of resolution, but they "just may find more than they bargained for."
The movie was filmed on-location in Scotland, and you can see the awe-inspiring visuals peppered throughout the trailer.

With its list of new releases for November 2021, Netflix will attempt to bravely step into a post-Squid Game world. Helping it in that mission is a diverse array of original series and films.
On the TV side of things, it’s a good month to be animated with both Big Mouth and F is for Family premiering their fifth seasons (on Nov. 5 and Nov. 25 respectively). It’s the live-action version of an animated classic, however, that might be Netflix’s crown jewel this month. Cowboy Bebop premieres on Nov. 19 and based on the first trailer, it will maintain the spirit of the beloved anime. And speaking of big hits, Tiger King 2 is set to arrive on Nov. 17.

We love an early Christmas present—especially in the form of watching Vanessa Hudgens trade places again (and again) in the first trailer for The Princess Switch 3. Netflix is warming the hearts of even the most bah-humbug of viewers with its newly released sneak peek of the third installment of The Princess Switch saga. The warm-and-fuzzy film, set for release in November, will once again follow Hudgens as she plays three identical-looking characters (Parent Trap–style). In the first 2018 film, viewers were introduced to a baker named Stacy De Novo and a princess named Duchess Margaret Delecourt who decided to switch lives just for the holidays. However, things got a little more complicated in the...

“The Princess Switch 3,” a romantic comedy starring Vanessa Hudgens, and more Christmas favorites are coming to Netflix this holiday season.
The third installment, newly titled “The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star,” drops on Nov. 18. In the film, Hudgens plays not one, not two, but three of the leading roles — Queen Margaret, Princess Stacy and Margaret’s look-alike cousin Fiona.
Before subscribers can watch that chaos unfold on the small screen, the Yuletide cheer kicks off with “The Claus Family” on Nov. 1. The film follows a grinch-like man who learns the magic of Christmas after his grandfather suddenly falls ill. A few days later, on Nov. 5, “Love Hard,” starring Nina Dobrev as a perpetually single L.A.-based journalist, drops on the streaming service.
