- Boyd Langton: Every person I know is pretty poorly constructed. Everyone has an excuse for not dealing. But eventually, that's all they are - excuses.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: What's yours?
- Topher Brink: [to Ballard] But this is the Dollhouse, frenemy. Nothing happens here without my - What the hell?
- Boyd Langton: The one who wanted to be rolled in eggs and flour and dipped.
- Adelle DeWitt: Ahh, Tempura Joe. Such a lonely soul.
- Boyd Langton: Thought I'd seen it all. But this engagement, *honestly*, this one's sick!
- Topher Brink: [as Sauders is trying to seduce Topher] Okay, that is the minority vote. And you tricked it! Okay? A guy's asleep, could've been Fozzie Bear and it would've - not that I think of Fozzie Bear.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: So why didn't you stop there?
- Topher Brink: Because I was designing a person not a roomba. I needed you to be whole. If you agreed with everything I'd said, we would've missed something, and somone would get hurt.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: You don't care if - if people get hurt.
- Topher Brink: You don't know me! That's the contract. You don't know me, and I don't know you, not fully, not ever! I made you a question. I made you fight for your beliefs. I didn't make you hate me. You chose to.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: I'm not even real. I'm in someone else's body, and I'm afraid to give it up. I'm not better than you. I'm just a series of excuses.
- Topher Brink: You're human!
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Don't flatter yourself.
- Paul Ballard: You're working an angle?
- Adelle DeWitt: With the exception of the very special and the comatose, have you ever met someone who wasn't?
- [last lines]
- Echo: I remember everything. Sometimes I'm someone else, and then I come back but I still feel them. All of them. I've been many people. I can hear them, sometimes suddenly. I'm all of them, but none of them is me. Do you know who's real?
- Paul Ballard: Caroline.
- Echo: I want to find her. I want to find all of them. Real them. They can be found. We are lost, but we are not gone. Will you help me?
- Paul Ballard: I swear. No matter what, I'm with you. Everything's gonna be alright.
- Echo: Now that you're here.
- Paul Ballard: Do you trust me?
- Echo: With my life.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: So should I interpret this new concern as pity? Curiosity? Deviant excitement? There's no judging in the Dollhouse.
- Boyd Langton: You seem to be having a hard time.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: My entire existence was constructed by a sociopath in a sweater vest; what do you suggest I do?
- Adelle DeWitt: [to Boyd] We made a deal with Paul Ballard. Either we honor the deal or he exposes us, I order you to do something... extreme. I'd like to avoid the latter two. I have plans for the erstwhile agent.
- Topher Brink: Is this your idea of a joke?
- Dr. Claire Saunders: You designed me, Mr. Brinks. I guess it must be your idea of a joke.
- Topher Brink: I designed you to be a NOT crazy person! You gotta stop messing with me.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: I don't seem to be able to.
- Paul Ballard: I can't beat you. The FBI kick me out for trying. Maybe the Senator can, I'll raise a glass. But in the meanwhile, I'm a kiss away from taking down a gun runner the FBI couldn't touch.
- Topher Brink: Maybe Dewitt would even imprint your own identity. You've earned it.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Because I don't want to die. I'm not even real. I'm in someone else's body, and I'm afraid to give it up. I'm no better than you. I'm just a series of excuses.
- Topher Brink: You're human.
- Dr. Claire Saunders: Don't flatter yourself.
- Paul Ballard: All you had to do was remember who you were.
- [Ballard hits Echo]
- Paul Ballard: You can't remember? Nobody home? We're gonna die and this scumbag is gonna walk because of you! The Chinese Restaurant - you remember that?
- Echo: [Echo continues to remember past engagements] Whoever you think you are - I know.
- Paul Ballard: I'm counting on it.
- Paul Ballard: I don't work for you.
- Adelle DeWitt: No, you work for the betterment of mankind, fighting crime by listening to Echo have sex. It's terribly noble.
- Ivy: I'm just moving things along. We're backed up like LAX at Christmas.
- Topher Brink: It's the autumn rush. Temperatures plummet to the high 60s. Leaves fall off that one tree on Wilshire. People need comfort.
- Ivy: What's up with you?
- Sierra: [Dressed and sounding like Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds, after having expressed a preference that Topher apply her "treatment"] I'm not comfortable with, uh, Orientals.
- Ivy: [Somewhat taken aback, not least because Sierra is at least part-Asian herself] It'll only take a second.
- Sierra: It's not a racialist issue. It's just that... Well, your culture's not really the thing, is it?
- [Hands her jacket to Ivy as one would to a servant]
- Ivy: Have a seat.
- Sierra: I suppose I'm at your mercy. In fact, if you were to tie me down and spank me, I could hardly be expected to resist, could I?
- Ivy: [Mildly freaked out] I'll keep that in mind.
- Echo: Hey, partner.
- Paul Ballard: Hey. How was last night? You okay?
- Echo: Oh, I'm so sore.
- [pause]
- Echo: My feet, perv. Why do people get married in frickin' stilettoes?
- [plants her feet on Ballard's lap for a foot rub]
- Echo: C'mon, work for a living.
