Quotes
-
Charles Logan : It's good to be back in the game. Even if it is through the rear entrance.
-
Charles Logan : Bauer torpedoed my presidency, tried to ruin me. Almost did. There's no way I'm gonna let that happen again.
-
Ethan Kanin : [Talking privately] what's this about Charles?
Charles Logan : Jack Bauer: his out of control. His already "pressured" a... Russian Mafioso in federal court and now his on his way to "question" a woman in custody at CTU: Dana Walsh
President Allison Taylor : Why does he want to talk to her?
Charles Logan : He thinks she knows who's behind of a shooting... Renee Walker
President Allison Taylor : [Surprised] Agent Walker?
President Allison Taylor : [after Charles nods] she's dead?
President Allison Taylor : How did this happen?
Charles Logan : That's still being "investigated" but in the meantime, what I'm saying is Bauer needs to be stopped
President Allison Taylor : Why?
Charles Logan : You're going to have to trust me: what we need to do right now is lock Bauer down
President Allison Taylor : You better tell me exactly what's going on
Charles Logan : Madam President...
President Allison Taylor : [Interrupts him] no I won't do a "thing" about Jack Bauer until you tell me the "truth"
Charles Logan : [after thinking it over] "elements" inside the Russian government were behind the assignation of President Hassan and the supply of nuclear "material" to his enemies
President Allison Taylor : The Russian government?
Charles Logan : Why do you think their back at the table? Because I threatened to expose their role in today's events
Ethan Kanin : [to Logan] you knew about this? And you didn't tell anyone?
Charles Logan : I was trying to protect the President
Ethan Kanin : [Raises his voice] protect her? You've "compromised" her... hopelessly
President Allison Taylor : [Angrily to Logan] why didn't you say anything before?
Charles Logan : I told you I had "leverage" with the Russians... you must've understood it was "significant"
President Allison Taylor : [Raises her voice] "significant? Yes, evidence of a sex scandal, some kind of financial malfeasance. Not "this" for God's sake. If I find you are in a position to prevent anything...
Charles Logan : [Adamantly] absolutely not. This information only came to me "very" recently
President Allison Taylor : From whom?
Charles Logan : I can't tell you
President Allison Taylor : [Sternly] you will tell me
Charles Logan : I can't because it will do "no good." My sources would plausibly deny even "knowing me"
President Allison Taylor : The Russian involvement? That's what Jack Bauer is about to bring out into the open?
Charles Logan : If he talks to Dana Walsh: yes. The Russians "inserted" her into CTU months ago, she was "their" agent
Charles Logan : [Eventually pointing to the television of news coverage of the peace conference] if Bauer gets to her, it'll all come out and "this" will all be finished
Ethan Kanin : It's finished anyways. You think the President wants anything more to do with the Russians after what they've done?
Charles Logan : [to Kanin] yes
Charles Logan : [to Taylor] yes, you do because you are looking at the "bigger picture", the "greater good
Ethan Kanin : [Raises his voice to Logan] how can you call any of this "good"?
Charles Logan : [Insistently to Taylor] it is good". An undeniable "good", a peace that's escaped the world generations: that's what you're on the verge of achieving. Do you really want to throw it all away?
Ethan Kanin : [to Logan] do you really think Dalia Hassan will sit down at the table with the people who murdered her husband?
Charles Logan : [to Taylor] who says she has to know? Believe me, I know how hard you worked for this. How you "sweated" and prayed the sleepless nights... I know. The power to make a difference, that's why we came into politics: how few of us get to achieve it but you have. You so "nearly" have. Ethan will tell you to make a stand, I applaud his "moral clarity" but then his on the "sidelines", he can afford it...
Ethan Kanin : [to Logan] that's enough
Charles Logan : [to Taylor] is the situation "ideal"? No. Far from it but you have a real chance... to make the world a better place
Ethan Kanin : [to Taylor, walks closer to her] don't listen to this, if the treaty is not signed today, it's not be the end. You build a "better peace" with "honest partners"
-
Mikhail Novakovich : [after welcoming to him to sit down] the Russian people join you in mourning President Hassan: his death... was a tragedy for all peace loving nations
Charles Logan : You can save your "platitudes"
Mikhail Novakovich : You want the truth?
Charles Logan : Why not for a change?
Mikhail Novakovich : I assume President Taylor sent you here to bring my country back to the bargaining table? She is going to be disappointed: President Taylor "lured" the whole world here with the "promise" that Hassan had "united" the IRK, that there would be "peace" for the first time in decades. Well, now it is clear that was a lie: there was no unity even within Hassan now that his gone...
Charles Logan : [Interrupts him] his widow Dalia can "pick up the mantle"
Mikhail Novakovich : [Shakes his head] not in our estimation, Hassan wasn't "undone" by his opposition. How could his widow possibly succeed where he failed?
Charles Logan : Because we both know that the opposition that "undid" him had "outside help." Nuclear threats, assassination plots against a heavily guarded head of state. This was not some "third-world malcontent" lashing out, this was a highly organized effort orchestrated by a major rival to the United States. A rival convinced their best interest was to stop the peace process by killing Hassan
Mikhail Novakovich : You are insinuating...
Charles Logan : [Interrupts him] "Insinuating"? No, I'm "saying" it was people inside your government, first among them: you
Mikhail Novakovich : [Leans forward] that is an outrageous accusation
Charles Logan : It's the fact in which I have "proof"
Mikhail Novakovich : I don't believe you
Charles Logan : Well, that's your right but I'll tell you this: you don't want to test me because what I "have", I will share with President Taylor if you and I fail to come to a "understanding" here. At this point, President Taylor knows nothing about any of this. I didn't see what good can come out from inflaming the situation between our countries further: not without talking to "you" first... and now I have
Charles Logan : [after he doesn't respond] the President's expecting me at the UN, I need to go
Mikhail Novakovich : What would you like to tell her?
Charles Logan : what I would like to tell her is that Russia is back at the table and her peace process is "on track" but if neither of us hears from you before I get there, I'm afraid what I'll have to tell her instead is the "unvarnished truth"
-
Jason Pillar : [Talking privately] we have a more immediate problem: Jack Bauer
Charles Logan : Bauer? What does he have to do with any of this?
Jason Pillar : He was just downtown at the federal courthouse at the arraignment of Sergei Bazhaev: Bauer got to him behind closed doors and got him to talk
Charles Logan : How much does this Bazhaev know?
Jason Pillar : He knows about Dana Walsh, the mole the Russians "planted" at CTU
Charles Logan : [Irritated] I know who she is
Jason Pillar : Bauer is headed to CTU, "presumably" to talk to her. Sir, my sources tell me Walsh hasn't given up anything on Moscow's involvement: none... not "yet" but she knows "enough to bring everything "down." If she gets in a room with Bauer...
Charles Logan : [Interrupts him] obviously, that can't happen. We need to stop Bauer before he talks to her
Jason Pillar : That won't be easy, he may have a "personal stake" in this? Apparently, he was asking Bazhaev about a Renee Walker: she was shot dead in Bauer's apartment less than an hour ago
Jason Pillar : [after Logan doesn't respond] sir, this could "easily" get out of hand: you may need to ask President Taylor to "intervene"
Charles Logan : Are you suggesting that I tell her the "truth?" If she finds out what the Russians have done, she'll be furious I kept her out of it. She might... back out of our deal
Jason Pillar : Sir, you really need to stop Bauer now. I really don't see any other way. You have to talk to the President
Charles Logan : Bauer torpedoed my presidency, tried to ruin me. Almost did. There's no way I'm going to let that happen again
-
President Allison Taylor : [Over the speakerphone as Kanin listens nearby] I just got off the phone with the Russian foreign minister
Charles Logan : You did, and what did he say?
President Allison Taylor : He said the two of you had a "very interesting" discussion and that he would be coming to the United Nations in five hours with the Russian Premier to sign the treaty as scheduled. He also said the credit for that is all yours
Charles Logan : He was in the "mood" to be "convinced"
Ethan Kanin : Mr. President, Ethan Kanin here
Charles Logan : So you're back on your feet?
Ethan Kanin : Yes, and I'm curious: what did you say to the Russian foreign minister to convince him to come back to the peace talks?
Charles Logan : I told him that... peace is in all of our interests
Ethan Kanin : [Unconvinced] seriously, I'd like to know how you did it
Charles Logan : Madam President, those details... are for me alone that was our agreement, am I right?
President Allison Taylor : Yes, you are
Charles Logan : So Ethan, let's not do anything to "sully" our victory and it is a "victory" for all of us. It's a good feeling, isn't it?
President Allison Taylor : What?
Charles Logan : Being of service... to your country
President Allison Taylor : Yes, it is
Charles Logan : I'll see you at the UN shortly
-
Charles Logan : [to both of them] "There is a tide in the affairs of man which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune"
Ethan Kanin : [Irritated, to Logan] what the hell does that mean?
Charles Logan : The President knows
President Allison Taylor : That's from Julius Caesar... it means "now or never"
