The Secret of the Super Baby
claudio_carvalho12 January 2017
When seven people go missing in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, the Fringe Division head to the place to investigate the case. Olivia is still recovering from the car crash, using walking stick and still with partial amnesia. Their investigation leads to Andre Hughes, a retired doctor that lost his wife and baby that died in the childbirth, and they bring him to the FBI office to interrogate him. Meanwhile the shapeshifter Charlie is tracking Olivia down following orders from someone from the parallel universe. The FBI decides to exhume the bodies of Hughes' wife and baby expecting to find whether he killed them or not. However the baby's corpse is missing. When they return to the FBI, they discover that Hughes committed suicide. What is the secret of Hughes' baby?

"Night of Desirable Objects" is a reasonable episode of "Fringe". The only things news and originals are the ability of improved hearing developed by Olivia and the communication of Charles with his superior in the parallel universe. My vote is seven.

Pretty much a "perfect" episode

Warning: Spoilers
You can see that by the beginning of the second season the team is humming on all cylinders.

Especially liked the way the writers managed the long arc and the short arc.

The long arc was handled by subtle reminders here and there: Olivia is hearing things, she has bruises, her partner is merely a lookalike shell managed by a creature from an alternate dimension with the ability to mimic ... in other words, the "usual." The short arc was great. Reminded me of the classic CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE which is famous in film history for not showing the creature till the end, and even then only a glimpse.

The irony there, of course, was that the director made that choice (back in the day) because he had no money.

Presumably here JJ ABRAMS and his team had the cash, but decided it was more more useful to describe "how" the creature came into being than to actually show it too soon.

Wonderful

A plot in hommage to a fantastic X files episode
nicofreezer24 May 2021
The same house than the Peacock house in the legendary " Home" from the X files. Weird stuff going on , a Monster in it and an opening scene that is nearly a copy to the first post generic scene of "Home".

I Saw in a review that Its an hommage to the flukeman from the episode " the host" , maybe the Monster look a bit like him. But its defenitively an hommage to " home".

But of course " Night of désirable objects" is not as good as The X files ep, far from it but still an entertaining ep 8/10.

The Last Night of Desirable Meghan Markles
XweAponX10 May 2012
Poor Little Fool... And I was sad to not see her anymore after this, I was hoping she would show up from time to time. Well, with 14 Episodes left, who knows what will happen.

Nina Sharp sends Olivia to a man who helped her when she had trouble with her robotic arm. Sam Weiss is not what Olivia, or we, expected. In very much the same way Yoda was not what Mark Hammill expected in a Jedi Warrior.

Peter was successful in getting all kinds of funding for Fringe Division - All except the C-130 Transport Plane Peter wanted. And so he takes it on himself to have Fringe Division investigate a series of odd disappearances in Lansdale, Pennsylvania-One of which we saw occur in the Teaser.

Walter finds the air Auspicious and "Pregnant with Possibilities"- And also finds ways of irritating the CSI's who are on site from several surrounding counties. But once they finish, Walter is happy to find some Blue Muck that immediately holds his interest. But the goop paralyzes his hand.

Olivia has not the talent for getting Sheriff "Golightly" (Charles Martin Smith) to be helpful - But Peter knows the exact Fishing phrases to use in order to get on the guy's good side. Next thing we see is Olivia and Peter leaving with boxes full of the Reports that Golightly was initially unwilling for the FBI to just come in and appropriate.

This leads them to a very strange man who is digging holes on his property, played by John Savage (whose first movie was the film version of "Hair"). Olivia thinks she hears someone else in the house, she has Peter distract the guy while she follows the noises. But Peter coming into the room startles her and she fires her weapon. A makeshift laboratory in the house gives them enough to bring the guy in for questioning.

But Broyles has Olivia checked out due so the Gun going off, and sends Agent Jessup (Meghan Markle) back to the house in her place.

This was why I was hoping to see more of Jessup in S2, but this was her last appearance with Fringe Division.

From this moment on, the case becomes an actual Pattern case. John Savage is less of a "hick" than he let on, he was a Doctor. But also unfortunately dead, as nobody bothered to watch him while he was in custody, he kills himself in the holding cell.

Because he had found a way to get his Lupus-Ridden wife to bear a Child - A Child who Savage said had died, but had somehow found a way of digging itself out of a coffin.

A "Child" that had been living underneath Savage's house.

In direct Homage to the "Fluke-Man" Episode of "The X-Files," we have the "Fringe Mole-Man." If there were a fight between the two, which one would win?

Just like "The Host" was X-Files, Season 2, Episode 2, this is Fringe, Season 2, Episode 2. Making this indeed a Homage Episode.

Olivia is reassembling after on ordeal she can't remember, Peter and Broyles had just fought to keep The X-File... Er, Fringe Division open. Many Parallels here.

But the best part is the way Peter gets Walter to finally, after all of these years, go Fishing with him, using a remarkable Lure.

Quite Intriguing and Very Frightening
Hitchcoc29 October 2023
That's some baby. People are disappearing, pulled underground by some force, and then fed on. It's as if a huge carnivorous mole is taking on the world. The gang go to investigate. Olivia is having more and more trouble concentrating and doing her job. She even takes a shot at Peter. He could be dead if she wasn't so clumsy with her gun. He is aware of the walking a fine line between being supportive and seeing her falling off the ledge. The conclusion of this leads her to finally seek some help. At times I think she is so full of herself that she'd rather blow the case than ask for a hand. Meanwhile, Charlie, now a bad guy, is out there pulling strings.
