Good story with lots of twists
kathrynjwilkes15 July 2021
I really enjoyed this. I wasn't sure what to expect but I have to admit it was a good watch.

It gathers momentum nicely as it progresses and the ending did not disappoint.

Thought Charlie Broosk was really good and so was the Australian girl.

Also totally amazing house...not too sure about the cellar though!!!!

A Little Gem of an Affair !
mariapirelli16 July 2021
I Loved it ! Lots of twists and turns which kept my attention throughout. They managed to show the story well in only 4 episodes without it feeling rushed. Thought all the cast were superb so Well Done to them and to Channel 5. Don't listen to the negative reviews and give it a go.

A little drawn out but overall good
ak202015 July 2021
The story builds slowly, with a number of twists - but nevertheless is good, despite a big hole in the plot ending (you will have to watch it to find out what I mean by spotting it yourself!).

The acting is very good and the story well written, if a tiny bit laboured at times.

Too rich for my blood, but...
prickly1018 August 2021
I think that I can understand why those that hated it, hated it *and* why those who loved it, loved it.

I'm a bit of a prude, so only watched (with the much shrinking back) the first and last episodes: the flashbacks provided the rest of the story.

I loved the way the twist at the end worked out: worth putting up with Some Very Unpleasant characters along the way to see it.

Well that was unexpected!
Sleepin_Dragon16 July 2021
Anna and Jake have emigrated to his native Australia, leaving behind a troubled past the couple are looking for a fresh start, and hire a new Nanny, The beautiful Becky.

After the horror show that was Anne Boleyn, this really is the other end of the scale, this is a terrific four part series. You could be forgiven for thinking it's a little slow to start, and part one does amble along somewhat, but at its conclusion, and there after, it's terrific. It literally gets better as it develops.

The best thing Channel five have ever done, it's smart, stylish, sexy, intriguing, and unlike many things the channel produces, it looks fantastic, it's an incredibly sleek production.

It's a terrific tale of lust, spite and revenge, and unexpectedly, is one of the best dramas of 2021.

I loved it, 9/10.

Excellent drama

I think people expect too much of tv programs now. I found this very enjoyable, a few twists and turns and on the whole really good viewing! I felt myself routing for Anna.

Interesting story. Let down by the actors.
hines-1898018 July 2021
Wasn't bad, but it was let down by the cast. Charlie Brooks was awful, she was only just able to act for eastenders. The male lead was very wooden.

I was gripped all the way through. Ignore the bad reviews.

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show. Charlie was great in it and you can see how the Nanny is grappling with what's right and her love for this horrible man. Ignore the bad reviews and at least try it.

Unlikeable characters, slow and terrible pacing
ringspeed17 July 2021
Once the novelty of ogling at the huge and impressive house has worn off, realisation sets in that this is cheaply made with unbelievable characters, bad acting, and terrible pacing.

Sure Charlie Brooks does her best to shred her Janine from Eastenders past, but overacting doesn't make good or believable acting.

4 x 1 hour episodes should've been compressed in to 2 or 3, and the pacing of the last 2 episodes and the conclusion were amateur at best.

Gripping with a truly surprise ending
leeds-0433917 July 2021
I loved this show from start to finish, it really hooks you in by making you think it's going to go one way but then it goes another. Charlie Brooks is excellent and two other actors play their parts well too, at times you feel like you are on all their sides. The ending is quite twisted and I didn't see it coming. Only criticism is it could've been longer.

Charlie Brooks deserves all the awards for this though she probably won't get them due to the snobbery of critics, do they even watch the shows they review or just write them off because of who is in them?

Well worth a watch
stephkcollier19 September 2021
Charlie Brooks shines in this mini series.

A few good twists. Well acted all around and characters that are believable.

It's always nice to be surprised by a series and that I was with this.

Not overly long and doesn't try to make you like Anna, which could have made it hammy. However, thanks to Charlie, you can't help bit like the character and do root for her ultimately.

Enjoyable stuff.

If.

Slow and boring with a predictable soapy plot
JRB-NorthernSoul14 July 2021
'Lie with me' was clearly trying to be a Harlan Coben type thriller but sadly felt more like an old episode of 'Home and Away'.

It's rare that everything goes exactly as you expect in the opening episode of a series, but it did here and that's not usually a very good sign..

Cast did their best, the main problem lay with the clunky script which had a lot of heavy-handed exposition, no imagination or spark and very little drama. There were also some very implausible scenes - the bottle of pills...

Better than some of C5's recent drama disasters but not good enough, you could find 50 better shows on Netflix without even trying. Soapy Schlock.

Unusual Hole in the ending...did no one notice?!
BooyahB1tches22 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert!

The story had unusual twists, and it was good to see Anna plotting against her husband and nanny without either of them realising that she was now in the power position. However, it's rare to watch a show where someone gets away with murder: usually these days all the PC crowd are baying for blood and righteousness! To see Anna walk away after killing her husband and watching the nanny imprisoned was unusual, and if you ask me, GOOD!!

Boring, predictable, badly acted
monmartin-8239717 July 2021
Why make this boring, predictable thing stretch 4 episodes? It could have been done in 1 or 2. The acting is terrible (exceptions the taxi driver, for me the star of the show, and the gardener). Don't waste your time.

Brilliantly original story-line
BooyahB1tches22 September 2021
Loved this: it's rare to see an original storyline that plays out so well. It was so brilliantly done, I liked all the characters, especially watching Becky's change of heart, and having to remind myself of her malicious behaviour initially, coming from the UK to aide him in institutionalising his wife.

Good story, well timed and played out well, all over hit.

I seen it through to the end only to be disappointed that a brown snake didn't bite the mental wife and finish the show properly.

Was not expecting this. Was brilliant !
chloegalley29 August 2022
Lie with me is a 4 part Australian drama exploring deceit, manipulation and morality. A British women relocates to her husband's hometown of Melbourne to reignite their marriage. The couple hire a nanny for their 2 young children- a decision that will lead to murder. What a brilliant drama certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat. The storyline was very good just not particularly very nice one. Acting was superb Charlie Brooks was incredible forgot on how good actress she is. Some parts were a bit predictable still a very good tv series. This intense drama/ thriller has twist and turns and you will be entertained from beginning to end. I couldn't believe how brilliant the drama was very well directed and certainly is a good watch. A could actually watch it again as it was that good. Contains a lot of adult content. Currently streaming on My 5 app. Don't waiting to long get watching.

Lifetime drivel
mzbritfan1 August 2021
This show would fit right in on the Lifetime channel here in the states. Of which I am NOT a fan. Another reviewer preferred this show to the latest version of Anne Boleyn with Jodie Turner-Smith. I would beg to differ. I enjoyed that show much better than this drivel.

Amazing drama - but title confusion makes it hard to review!
Leeds197030 October 2022
I saw this great little show a little while ago and went to give a review but couldn't find it. It's definitely called Lie With Me on my device, not With Intent, so I don't know why the title is wrong on IMDb. Oh, well, I found it now but others might still be lost.

I loved this show. I like the way all the characters seem to be one thing at the start and then you realise appearances are deceiving. It all slowly turns on its head and by the end you are really on the side of the wife who is in danger of losing her children. Suffice to say the husband is as nice as he first seemed but the real revelation is the nanny. I felt really sorry for her by the end which was a surprise after how she behaved.

One of the few dramas where the ending really delivered. Full stars.

Fantastic drama keeps you guessing
fionalee-821245 January 2024
I'm late to the party with this show but I'm glad I finally got around to watching. Charlie Brookes is a stand out, giving a great understated performance as a woman on the edge of a nervous breakdown. The story basically follows her attempt to regain her power and turn the tables on the very people who are messing with her mind. What I loved is everyone is playing mind games and it's obvious someone is going to die but not necessarily who you think. The very final scene has stayed with me overnight since viewing, it's a small moment from Charlie but quite open to interpretation.

Very odd to see the title With Intent, presume that was the title in Australia?

With Intent
studioAT16 July 2021
Channel 5 seem to be branching out into this sort of area. Normally with an ex soap star heading it up.

Unfortunately this isn't great, and comes across as trying to ape much better shows that have gone down this line.

Brilliant winter fare
emilystewart-5668828 December 2023
Firstly this show is called Lie With Me not With Intent, which is surely costing it reviews. I've been on a Christmas binge and discovered it along with lots of great shows on catch up. I describe this a best kept secret as I'd never heard of it when it first came out apparently in 2021. It's a relationship drama about a woman who seems crazy and neurotic but then you realise she's actually being set up by the people closest to her. It keeps you hooked as it seems it will go in one direction but then it goes in another. Charlie Brooks is excellent, if you've ever seen her in EastEnders this will show a completely different side. I also thought the husband is brilliant too. The end screams sequel so hopefully there will be more.

So bad
mikeandalisongay19 July 2021
Cannot understand the high score for this. The acting is painful, and the storyline so weak, it was actually painful for the 30 minutes I watched. None of the actors can act, and the script is poor.
