Whilst this movie in a technical sense isn't terrible, The newest revival to the monster high franchise has tarnished the legacy.
My biggest gripe with the movie is the characters. As a Monster High fan since 2010, it's hard to let go of the childhood nostalgia. They of course needed to freshen up there outfits, hobbies and overall aesthetic to fit modern trends. However watching Big Bad Clawdeen Wolf in purple sneakers and awkward mom length skirts made me turn off this movie before even hitting play. Clawdeen was known for her leopard print fits and heels up to the heavens. Realistic for a 15 year old? No but no one is watching this for realism but rather an escape.
Frankie being non-binary is an amazing edition to the series, but could've been more streamlined to be more visually appealing. Non-binary people such as Cara Delevingne or Miley Cyrus could've been used as a guideline for a modern ,cool FASHIONABLE character.
Draculaura visually was one of the better characters, but her cold, not warm personality was a far cry from her previous self.
With a character overall and higher budget, this movie could've been tolerable. Monster High didn't need a live action movie. Instead of a clean slate, Mattel needed to just scratch off the rust of an amazing franchise they already had.

I'm an OG fan and have an extensive Monster High collection, so I am FULLY invested with this fandom.
I adored this movie, full stop. So many little references to past Monster High movies and dolls - so you can tell the writers did their homework. The sets, atmosphere and overall asthetic are creepy cool. Football with an actual foot? Loved it!
All the songs are bops. End of discussion.
Were some characters altered? Yes. But not a full overhaul like some reviews want you to believe. The characters still have their distinctive traits, but with a more modernized/updated feel. They are all portrayed as actual teenagers in the real world, with relatable insecurities and fears.
All the actors/actresses did such an amazing job with their characters, but Frankie was my absolute favourite in the film. I loved their comedic timing and they are just overall so enjoyable to watch.
My one criticism is that there wasn't enough Ghoulia! Maybe in the sequel she'll have more screen time.
Just give this a chance. It's a wonderful movie with TONS of monster heart and doesn't deserve the hate it's getting. Really hope we get a sequel!

I've loved Monster High since its inception in 2010. The books, the cartoons, and the dolls are incredible! This movie was fun with cool songs, great cast, and spooky situations. Frankie Stein has always been my favorite character and the fact they are non-binary is beautiful. It's all about being yourself, no matter what! Clawdeen Wolf is front and center this time around, while making new friends and embracing her true self. It's such a positive film that delivers love, acceptance, songs, dance, and the perfect amount of creepiness. The entire cast made this movie better than expected. I will watch it again and again. It's one of my favorite movies of the year!
Watching this was PAINFUL! They changed the characters so you can almost not even recognize them. They made draculaura mean. In the original she was sweet. Clawdeen is apparently the main character when Frankenstein is supposed to be. They didint even try to make the costume look right. I seem so many cosplays on monster high character. And you think that a full on movie can do better than a teenager but NO. It's not enough that they made Cleo and Deuce break up, they also made Deuce look like jughead from riverdale. This is not a spoiler cuz it's revealed very early in the show, CLAWDEEN IS NOT SUPPOSED TO DATE DUECE. The whole original gang Is not even together. If their planning on making another movie (which I know they are) please make it better or you can traumatize children with bad CGI.
And tbh I didint even a watch the whole thing, stopped at about halfway cuz I couldn't take it. I heard that it was bad but didint think this bad. If you are a parent thinking of watching this with your kid fine do it. But from someone who has watches every monster high movie on replay, I don't recommend for any monster high lover to watch this if you don't want to watch the movie with a disgusted look. Maybe this sound harsh but only my opinion.

This is pretty fine musical and school story with a teense bit heroic student friends. Not too much as origin but not that far from it.
Characters are very similar, good choice here.
The only but critical minus is origin Clawdeen - why oh why she is half human here?? She is not! Hyde was half human! Wanted concept about humamonstafobia and solving it in one heroic jest - go with the origin person who you can work with! But no. And why no is the reason this movie fails the own choosing concept and fail itself big time. Sorry I want rate it higher for every else good stuff in movie but that only fail ruined it for good.

- TriviaThis movie is set in an alternate universe from the original series and features many changes to the original Monster High characters. In the original series, Deuce was dating Cleo instead of Clawdeen (although this film states several times that he broke up with Cleo), Lagoona was Australian with blue skin instead of Latina with pink skin, Ghoulia spoke in moans instead of speaking normally, and some of the characters had distinctive accents (like Draculaura's Romanian accent, Clawdeen's New York accent, and Abbey's Russian accent) which were changed to normal American accents for the reboot.
