Far from perfect, but this felt like a traditional episode of a sitcom, a 90's finale for sure with some happy news and some sad news. It maybe sets the pace for a very different season 4.

Let's see if this review goes through because the review I wrote for the last episode didn't

And I'm not sure why?

Anyway, we have several plots going on for this storyline. One storyline has Dan proposing to Louise and she accepted. This is a storyline that a lot of people are probably gonna be divided about. I know my mom isn't crazy about the show and she says she can't see Dan moving on that quickly from Roseanne/Roseanne's death. I saw the logical part of why they're doing that storyline. It's to give John Goodman more to do instead of him being like Michael Fishman.

It might've been interesting to see if any of the kids felt weird about their dad moving on and marrying somebody else. But I also realize Becky, Darlene and DJ are grown adults and figure Dan's business is his own and just want to see him happy. And this series probably skirts the line for just how many times they want to bring up Roseanne (character). So I can also see why they wouldn't have somebody bringing that up.

The second proposal involved Darlene proposing to Ben and Ben turning her down. I'm hopeful this garbage can be left behind because I've said in many reviews how dull I think their relationship is. I look to the original "Roseanne" and I'm not sure if they were trying to have a throwback storyline or what. I don't think it pans out as well. Jackie and Fred's marriage was going to be a disaster because Roseanne always wanted to be the one that came first in Jackie's life. Yeah, Jackie should've laid down the law with Roseanne on multiple occasions but she didn't. Darlene is somebody that I think is doing what she wants to do. Nobody's forcing her to put others first. And I also think it's a waste for Ben to be throwing up about living in the hardware store supposedly because of Darlene. Where were you living before you met Darlene? Maybe you should've kept that place until a decision was 100% concrete about moving in together?

Another storyline involved Gina retiring from the military once she saw how much she was missing out on Mary's life. To be honest I'm quite indifferent about this storyline. I think Gina's following the footsteps Mary was going through before she got more screen time after the character moved in with the Conners. I felt like Mary was just there and neither liked her or disliked her. We've seen so little of Gina that it also just seems like a storyline that's there. Michael Fishman's been on the series for so little this season and it makes me wonder if the family will be staying in Lanford or will this be a way for all three characters to exit the series?

Another storyline involved Jackie's disaster appearance on "Jeopardy". She's trying to turn the negative into a positive since she's getting a lot of online attention for her behavior in the appearance on the game show. She's trying to beef up more business for the Lunch Box and had Mark put up an Instagram page for her and she has a wacky ad on the page. I've also went through my feelings about wacky Jackie. It's just not working for me. Jackie was still funny in the early seasons of "Roseanne" so I'm not sure why the writers think that Jackie has to be "wacky" to bring the laughs. I still wish Roseanne (character)'s death had sobered her up and maybe she wouldn't be so wacky.

I was on another series and saw where somebody had posted a negative review of the episode being talked about and somebody called the person out. Why are you still watching if all you can say is negative stuff? I can't answer for that person. I know that there's shows I'll snark in a heartbeat but still find the show to be excellent. I can't really count myself as snarking this series. I just can't help thinking of the strong writing on the original "Roseanne" and thinking this show has more potential than the stuff they write. I have praise to Lecy Goranson when Becky fell off the wagon and I thought her performance was terrific and the writing was strong. I thought Sara Gilbert's performance when Ben rejects her proposal was excellent acting and writing from the writers.

I just hope season 4 is a case of truly thinking about what you're good at writing about and ditching the weak stuff that's dragging the series down. You did come off of "Roseanne". There might be people that can watch this series and think of it by itself. Don't think about "Roseanne", just consider this a stand alone project. I'm just not one of those people. I can't help comparing the two series and seeing just how "The Conners" fall short in a lot of ways. And no, I don't think it's because of the lack of Roseanne (actress). That rebooted season of "Roseanne" still felt off to me in terms of quality.
