wow

I must admit that i thought the new seasons started very badly, Dex not in control, the improbable romance between Batista and laguerta, the return of old lost love for Debra etc So many clichés that almost made me forgot that Dexter was the most innovating TV show i show for decade.

But the 2 last episodes are so amazing, intense and again surprising. The ending of episode 4 was so unexpected that i thought that the writer will never surprise me again since i know that now everything is possible on this TV show. But i got shocked and so amazed by the ending of episode 5, i guess i had the same face than Dexter when he saw what we saw. I cannot remember to have been so connected to a reaction of a character than i was during the ending of this episode. I still cannot get over it today.

Bravo !!!!

I am broken

Warning: Spoilers
1. Lundy dies 2. Debra breaks up and breaks down 3. Dexter gets caught about apartment

Ok, Debra actually POPPED off this episode. I've never been a fan of her but gosh - her emotions smashed right out of the screen. Dexter is in a lot of trouble and his marriage is becoming shaky. He got caught with the accident and the apartment. How is he going to resolve this?

I'm seeing a pattern - Dexter always finds some similarity between people he's chasing down. Dexter is in shock as he sees Trinity with his family at the ending scene. Truth is, Trinity could be like Dexter down the road and jsut never caught. He may not have a moral rationale to it but Dexter sees himself becoming like him (or at least hoping to be).

So far, this season is very good. Very nuanced and complex with all the characters shining.

A Father and a Husband Like Dexter
claudio_carvalho7 August 2011
Dexter visits Debra in the hospital where she is recovering. When Anton arrives, Debra tells the truth about Lundy to him and calls off their relationship. The police believes that Lundy and Debra were shot by the Vacation Murderer, but Dexter is sure that Trinity is the responsible for the crime. Rita receives a phone call from Dexter's landlord and she finds that Dexter has kept his apartment. Angel plants the information with Christine that Johnny Rose has syphilis and Nikki Wald guns down her partner, Maria discloses her relationship to her superiors and Angel is promoted and transferred to another precinct. Debra has a nervous breakdown. Dexter chases Trinity and makes an unexpected discovery.

"Dirty Harry" is another fantastic episode of Dexter. Rita is annoying when she discovers that Dexter has another apartment. The conclusion is absolutely unexpected. My vote is nine.

Rita ... next rider of the Gulf stream?
tauiota11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As I'm binging Dexter in mid-2022, yes, I missed it, I immensely enjoy the plot twists and the novelty of the show not to forget the excellent performance of so many actors and characters except one ... Rita .. she grew up to be the most annoying, manipulative, self-righteous creature ... liked her in past episodes but now, she developed as the antithesis of normal and such a goody-goody wannabe wife that truly deserves a ticket to the Gulf Stream ...

S4.E5: Trinity Killer: The Family Man [9.5/10]
panagiotis199317 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 4 Episode 5 ''Dirty Harry'' (S4. E5): Episode 4 was cool and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Lundy didn't deserve a death like that. Lundy and Deb are back together, Lundy dies, the relationship between Deb and Anton just got very complicated. Deb doesn't know what a healthy relationship is, all of her relationships are disasters. This is so unfair for Anton. Johnny and his girlfriend, I don't think that they are responsible for what happened Lundy and Deb. Dex tells Deb that she didn't do anything wrong but he is wrong, Deb is to blame about what happened to her, I mean about cheating on Anton and Anton leaving her. Deb is having a mental breakdown, I feel bad for her but she deserves it. Oh boy Rita found the chest but Dex was smart enough to hide everything. Wow, the trinity killer is a family man? I didn't expect this! What an amazing episode, my rating is 9.5/10.

To build on what mg501 said...
skay_baltimore22 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I agree 100% with what mg501 said about Rita. I'd only add that her voice -- a baby-like droning whine -- puts her over the top in my book when it comes to annoying. I almost always fast forward through her scenes. She adds nothing but irritation to the show. (I always found it funny that fans loved her and hated Hannah McKay. For me, it was the exact opposite. I despised Rita and loved Hannah. Hannah was the only female who really matched Dexter. The rest were total mismatches.)

As far as this episode goes it's a hot mess like so many other hot messes in season 4. Melodrama rules and real drama is nowhere to be found. Plot holes so huge you could drive a Sherman tank through through them. Wretched dialogue. Gratuitous nudity (OK. So it's not all bad.) Bottom Line: It's almost unwatchable. Thank goodness for fast forwarding. What a total waste of Lithgow's unique talent(s).

This series has totally jumped the shark. It's gone from cutting edge writing and directing to cutting room floor fodder. You know it's sad when Masuka is the most watchable character out of all of them. One of the biggest violations of the past couple of seasons is the overuse of the talking over device(s). The main foundation of good cinema is: "Show me don't tell me". The writers and directors here don't have a clue how to execute such a basic foundation principle.
