Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual situations and references throughout the show. No nudity.
  • Haley squeezes her boobs in some episodes in order to distract guys or flirt with them. She also occasionally opens her shirt to expose her cleavage for the same reasons.
  • Claire is seen in her bra and panties a number of times through the series. Haley is also seen in her underwear a few times.
  • In season 7, Haley talks about breaking into one of Phil's empty open houses and using the bathtub. She says the tub had an intense jet feature and that it took her twenty minutes just to find her car when she was done, implying masturbation.
  • A few instances of partial nudity throughout the show, though it is always blurred and nothing is ever seen.
  • Gloria, Haley and some minor characters wear revealing clothes. They also wear bikinis throughout that barely cover their breasts and buttocks.Phil is seen in his underwear on a few occasions.
  • It is briefly mentioned in season 1 that Cam and Mitchell met at an orgy.
  • In one episode, Haley, Alex and Luke walk in on their parents, Clair and Phil 'doing it' but their bodies and cover from the camera by the bedsheet. Also, later in the episode, Clair and her dad, Jay have a conversation about how she did the same thing as a kid.
  • Gloria wears tight outfits that reveal her cleavage and/or midriff in a lot of episodes.

Violence & Gore

  • Phil is hit in the face with a remote airplane, twice. He is later seen with a bloody broken nose. Played for laughs.
  • Some fights between Gloria and Dede.
  • Jay gets shot in the foot
  • All violence, if there is any, is played for laughs and does not result in serious injury to the characters.

Profanity

  • "Fuck" is used a couple but is bleeped out, "fuck" is just the only one that is bleeped out.
  • "Bitch", "whore", and "ass", as well as "damn", "hell", and "crap" are said intermittently. A few lesser-known slurs against homosexuals like "cream puff". In one episode, there are few bleeped out uses of "fuck" from a very young girl.
  • Some strong innuendos have been heard a few times but nothing too verbally graphic.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Jay is sometimes seen holding cigars (we never see him smoking them, although heavily implied that he is).
  • Throughout the series multiple jokes are made about how much wine Claire drinks. Claire is also seen drinking wine in almost every episode
  • In season 9 a joke is made by Alex saying that Claire likes to sometimes drink wine and smoke a cigarette in the bath tub to calm down.
  • Two characters consume gummy bears with marijuana in them. Mild, but obvious effects are shown.
  • In season 11 Cam makes a joke about an old family recipe and how he used cayenne pepper instead of cocaine.
  • In some episodes, characters get drunk, including a teenage girl. She does learn a valuable lesson from this experience however.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some family conflicts throughout the show, obviously nothing in terms of horror or disturbing violence
