- Jackie and Zoey are working the night shift when a ten-year-old girl brings her lupus-stricken mother to the emergency room. A stroke patient needs Jackie's help in getting peace from his family, Dr. O'Hara takes Zoey out to dinner, and Mo-Mo plays games with his stalking admirer, Thor.—Peter Brandt Nielsen
- Jackie looks at her daughter Grace's drawing of Florida. It's overcast and rainy. They sit down to dinner and Grace asks her mom why she always has to work. She eats her fries glumly and then she gets up and runs away.
At work, Mo Mo stops by Jackie and tells her she hasn't seen him. This is the answer she gives Thor when he asks after Mo Mo. Then she gives Zoey the ropes on working night shift. Mrs. Akalitus is concerned about the level of socializing on the shift. Jackie makes the schedule.
She shooes a patients bickering family out of his room. He appears to have had a stroke and can't speak. She asks him to smile. He doesn't. She asks him to lift both arms. He manages one. She asks him to talk, but he can't. A hussy-looking woman comes in the ER for her third pregnancy test in four months. When she says she doesn't have the $15 for a test from a pharmacy, Jackie gives her a $20 and tells her not to clog up her waiting room.
A 10-year-old girl brings her wheezing mother in. Mom has Lupus. The daughter wants to go with her, but Mrs. Akalitis won't allow it because she's too young. Jackie calls her husband, worried about Grace. When he says I love you, Eddie walks around the corner and she answers "Me too."
Mrs. Akalitus leaves the girl at the nurse's station. She's studying for her spelling test. Jackie asks permission to look through her notebook. It's a careful log of her mom's blood pressure. She admits her grandmother isn't really coming, it's just her.
Jackie takes her to see her mom. When Cooper objects she starts in on him, telling him the 10-year-old is the caregiver. He reaches out a Tourette's hand to go for her chest but she fends him off and calls him a freak before leaving.
Cooper stops Eddie at the newsstand, trying to talk motorcycles with him. Then he informs Eddie he'll be having Quiznos with him later.
Jackie and Mo Mo share the coffee his stalker Thor brought him. He tells Jackie she needs love in her life and he's going to set her up.
Jackie tends to the stroke patient, whose family doesn't listen to her suggestions of how to deal with a stroke patient, shouting over each other.
O'Hara comes to get Jackie for dinner, but she says she can't. Zoey volunteers. O'Hara agrees. "That's how easily you're replaced," she tells Jackie.
Zoey sits in her bunny scrubs in a very fancy restaurant, excited to be there. When a snooty diner looks at her funny, Elenor says "Make-A-Wish foundation." Out of nowhere, Zoey tells O'Hara she thinks it's interesting how she uses humor to mask her real emotions. O'Hara calls for the next subject. "My dad's in prison for manslaughter," Zoey says. "Fabulous!" says Elenor, "Go."
Jackie visits Eddie for their scheduled sex time, but is surprised to see Cooper there with him. She turns and leaves. Cooper tells Eddie he grabbed her boob once and she was cool with it. He tells him about his physical stutter. When Eddie laughs and says Cooper is full of s---, Cooper just laughs.
Jackie walks by Thor and tells him Mo Mo wants a slice of pepperoni pizza and a donut.
Jackie visits the 10-year-old and her mom, who is doing much better.
Jackie drops back to see Eddie, loading up on pills for the young girl. She gives them to her and wishes her luck on her spelling test that she was using flash cards to study for.
Back at her station, Jackie makes some flash cards. The stroke victim's wife craps on the idea, but Jackie hands two to him. She reads them: "Shut the f--- up. Seriously."
Mrs. A finds a Taser lying in the hallway. She shouts at anyone listening about how dangerous it is. Then she walks into the elevator, hits a button and falls to the floor, zapped. Thor pushes the elevator button. When the doors open he takes one look at her and says: "Taser? Been there, sister. Fifteen minutes, you're good as new."
Jackie complains to Mo Mo that he ate her pizza and her donut. Jackie sees some shoes sticking out from under a sheet. She calls out Mrs. A, who reveals herself. As she tells Jackie these things wouldn't happen if they all took pride in their workplace, they watch Thor chasing a patient with his bootie hanging out the back of his open gown. Zoey drops him with a well-placed clothesline arm. Mrs. A tells Jackie she might be what Jackie thinks she is but she's been f---ing the system for 30 years. There isn't a move she hasn't seen. We'll see, Jackie says.
Out on the street, Jackie sees Eddie talking to Cooper. She stops walking. When her husband calls she answers and walks the other way.
At home, he tells Jackie that Grace had a breakdown. Jackie says OK, giving in. She looks at the stormy drawing of Florida. Her purse rings. It's the 10-year-old. Her mom can't really move her arm. She tells her to give her mom half a Percocet with a little bit of juice as she does the same for herself.
