Much better alternative to Peppa Pig
lydie153 November 2014
Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom is a children's show created by the same people who made Peppa Pig. It is directed to children aged slightly older than those who watch Peppa Pig, but it can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

It is a really cute show that has that little hint of quirky humour that adults will get, which keeps us interested if we're stuck watching it! It's a sweet, simple show with lots of fun adventures involved.

My 4 year old thinks it's a fantastic show. In my opinion the show is much more interesting, less annoying, and funnier than Peppa Pig, and is in my list of favourite shows to watch with the kids!

Great show for parents and children

I have blue and gold McCaw who loves cartoons. I can't say I like many of them but this is one show I truly enjoy. Nanny Plum is the character who makes the show so enjoyable for adults with her dry humor and sarcastic remarks.

Charming
xavierbrad2 February 2019
This is one of the rare programs that children and adults alike can enjoy. It's fresh, sweet-natured, funny, and spectacularly creative. Nanny Plum is one of the great cartoon characters - in the same sphere as Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny.

8/10 for entertainment, as for some ideas.....

I am not one of those people who complains about "themes" in kids shows and I often get angry at people who see themes where there are none and while I'll admit my kids love this show and I laugh with them the 'elves are there to serve the fairies is quite a strange theme. I know the fairies are often portrayed as a bit helpless without their wands and the king in particular is a buffoon but the elves seem to be tugging their forelocks and are only too happy to inconvenience themselves for their fairy masters.

As I say it is funny, the kids will love it, you'll probably laugh too but that theme spoils it for me just a tad.

Encourages bullying over differences, criminal damage, and not taking responsibility.
lamrett3 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Saw an episode that was on whilst my young nephew was round. A group of children were snail riding. The woman in charge of the riding school never once reprimanded the children for repeatedly saying cruel things about the one slug in the stables then leaving it behind, despite it clearly being sentient enough to understand what was being said and crying. She then left the young children alone whilst riding, which lead to the snails devastating half of a large crop of cabbages. After she finally got back and put a stop to the snails, despite the clear, obvious distress of the farmer at the destruction of his crops that was clearly a big enough problem that alarms and towers were needed, this all being the clear and direct fault of the woman in charge of the snails, she didn't accept any blame, joked about the whole thing, and even suggested that in future he grow the favoured food of the snails. I was expecting some moral lesson to be taught, where she is brought down to size for her criminal negligence, and both tolerance of and committing bullying, but the episode ended. This is horrendous. "Hey kids! Laugh at and ostracize things that are different, that's fine! Never accept blame, laugh at the misfortune of others, and no need to worry about looking after people under your care!"

Okay But A Bit Inappropriate In Some Parts
purplerice0005 January 2020
I am not the target audience but I know what to look for in kids shows and have some thoughts on this. Though this show is loads better in terms of the humor and characters presented in Peppa pig, there are a lot more innapropriate and downright crude things in it.

There is a part in the show where Holly's little sisters, Daisy and Poppy, make their mother, Queen Thistle, disappear. The characters then make a remark as to how the queen disappeared and left her crown and...panties. I don't know if that's necessary or that kids really needed to know about that. They kept repeating it too. I'm sure it's supposed to be funny but my little brother, who is 5, started saying "panties?" And I was really not comfortable with that.

This show also says bullying is okay. The kids were going to ride some snails which are shown as being really cool and fun and there's a slug named Samson who's portrayed as slimy and green and sad. As soon the the snail trainer shows kids the slug, the kids say "eww" very loudly and Samson begins to cry. The trainer then says "I have no idea why nobody wants to pick you." And nothing else and I felt really bad for him. They then take the snails out to ride and poor Samson follows them to feel accepted and make some friends because nobody picked him. One of the kids says to the trainer that Samson the slug is following them and the trainer immediately takes him back while he cries. The trainer says something about how he's never allowed to follow them because he's not a snail. There's no more mentioning the slug after that and he's just left sad. You'd think they'd resolve that and make him be accepted but that's it. That really didn't sit right with me. Moreover, it looked to me like the writers were rushing through and forgot that they put Samson in there.

The show also shows cheating is okay when nanny plum uses magic to make Ben elf win in a competition and when nanny copies the wise old elf's ship design when trying to impress the Marigolds, another royal family and it turns out to be okay in the end. The fairies are also shown to be superior than the elves when they should be equal. I like the humor pointed towards the fairies being lazy and not being able to do anything without using magic, but the fairies and elves should be equal by them not hating the others ways.

They should also not make a ladybug bark as that's completely inaccurate.

I love some of the humor directed at adults just like in Peppa pig but they really should be aware of what kind of content that humor brings about. They really need to have someone check some of their episodes over so that's it's fun for adults and for kids and so that kids are not left wondering why a queen wears panties and what panties are and instead, worry about making friends and knowing your self and learning valuable life lessons that some parents may have missed or emphasize the ones they have already taught.

This is such an goood show, i love it. So does my dad, he hides it but i know his true intentions. I think he has a crush on ben, i know i do. The animation and storylines of this show are incomparable i've never seen one like it. Holly is a terrible role model but i like ben he has a funny nose. My least favourite thing is the time, each episode is soooooo short

make them longer >:(. I recommend this show for everyone all ages all heights and allll levels of intelligence . I do warn you though, it's veerrrry addictive. Mmmm i just wants to eat them i love them sooooo much. Have fun with your viewing or i will find you and 🔫. Goodbye :))). P.s once i tried to ride a ladybug because i thought it was gaston. Hahahaha my 20th birthday party was such a blast.

Fantastic Pre-school TV.
ABigFatOrange1212 April 2020
This cartoon is about elves and fairies going on adventures, they are very small and like to be kept unknown to humans. Our main characters, Ben, Holly and Gaston go on adventures with their friends and families.

The stories, unlike its sister show, Peppa pig, are actually really good, some have decent action in them, others can get a few laughs out of anyone, the composing of music is pretty good. It is a fun cartoon for all the families

Now, there aren't really many downfalls except for one which I think you would've expected and that's with what Nanny Plum says. She says something along the lines of 'That's an idea, a very stupid one'. Now it may not sound so bad until you realise this show is aimed for kids under 6. For me, I find this quite funny to here language like this in a show for pre-schoolers, but to parents, it may seem abit risque to them. She doesn't say it that often, only about 3-4 times in the entire series but I do recommend you check this show to see if you are okay with them saying 'profanities' like 'Stupid' infront of your 6 year old.

Overall, I do recommend this show to anyone really, just keep an eye out on some minor flaws and you will be good to go.

Not ideal
karebeardill9 January 2018
I was floored to hear one of the elves say "Now that's an idea, a very stupid idea". Don't get me wrong, it could be much worse...but as a former Preschool teacher that phrase is a complete nightmare! The show aired on Nick jr and we won't be watching that channel either! I recorded the clip and have yet to hearan explanation!

My little one loves this prog and the earlier episodes were funny even for adults - I think they ran out or ideas too soon unfortunately as the later ones are a bit rubbish! But my kid likes to watch them on repeat anyway :)

A Great Show and Better Than Peppa Pig
MeTVFan123430 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom is a great show. Here is why.

It is funny, clever, and the jokes are more in depth compared to Peppa Pig. It also uses the same voice actors as Peppa Pig.

An Excellent Alternative to Annoying Kids TV
zpbnbw15 July 2022
There seem to be a few people who find this show problematic which takes a significant reading of subtext that realistically just isn't there.

It's the best of the genre that is toddler TV. Fun, colourful, cute and in places just silly. Plenty of hidden jokes for Adults. The comparisons with Peppa Pig are entirely fair as a significant number of voice actor are in both but this is a definite step up in storytelling and vastly less irritating.

My kids love this and it's a child show an adult can enjoy
Mlewis329 June 2022
Nanny Plum and Wise Old Elf alone make this show worthy of having to sit through as an adult. Same makers as Peppa and similar animation, but the writing is definitely geared towards older kids with adults thrown in just for the adults. I find myself laughing at least once every episode. You can do much much worse when it comes to kids shows.

No Peppa Pig, No Ben and Holly Little Kingdom
AntiBadCartoons24 February 2024
In some reviews for "Peppa Pig" from some users who gave a rating of 1 or 2 wrote that it is better to watch "Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom".

Here are also a few users who gave "Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom" very high marks, some wrote that it is better than Peppa Pig, but really neither this cartoon is cool nor this one. The characters in these productions are not interesting at all and nothing interesting happens. I recommend watching a short review from "Grobir Reviewer" on YouTube for this cartoon, which lasts 3 minutes. So briefly and to the point. So briefly and to the point. So briefly and to the point! Search on Youtube movie in title: "Grobir reviewer EN - Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom".

Terrible morals
joerichards3 March 2024
Pretty looking. Needlessly perpetuates some pretty awful morals. As a primary school teacher I stumbled across this on Channel 5's Milkshake. I would never play this in school, in the one episode I saw it perpetuated some pretty terrible gender stereotypes, the impression you should always worry what your hair looks like, and that a male king can just trick a dumb witch into doing whatever he wants, while putting the king on the pedestal at the end of the story. The child asks "why did you lie?" And he replies something along the lines of a sarcastic well sometimes you need to. The programme creators clearly don't have a good sense of values themselves. Some people don't seem to mind, but knowing how children pick up on these things I find it really crass and irresponsible. You can be just as fun, playful and poke fun without needing to be so crass.

Bug
rabenulrik8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I always confuse this with Danish Ben & Tan from Eurovision 2020. In a long stream of streaming for modern kids Ben & Holly is a must see. It has fairies, elves bugs and charm. A model for kids to sell toys, and nerdy young people and adults who loves magic kingdoms and lore to watch on Youtube and stream.
