Excellent overview of what happens in Alzheimers Disease

Many people have a basic understanding of dementia, which is equated by most as the same as Alzheimer's Disease. However, there are multiple causes of dementia, with Alzheimer's only being the most common. This multipart series does an excellent job of humanizing the condition. There is a tendency to only think of those with very early memory problems or others who are bedbound with end-stage dementia. The Alzheimer's Project wonderfully illustrates the whole spectrum of the dementia process. Having a personal special interest in dementia care, I found this series to be the best single resource for non-clinicians to learn about Alzheimer's Disease.

Very Helpful Regarding Impact on Family; Progress Overstated

While I loved the human element/cost discussed in the documentary, the scientists made it sound like we were on the cusp of important treatments, and that was back in 2009. We still only have Aricept and a newer medication that was very controversial for even getting FDA approval because of the poor performance in the human trials. Let's look into the effects of THC on preventing the plaque build-up due to Amyloid Beta. We need to investigate both what causes the uptake of Amyloid Beta but also what helps with the clearance, which is causing the accumulation.
