Sexy Comedy
PalmBeachG9 February 2023
This is a funny and definitely sexy comedy with plenty of R rated scenes. The Polish student needs an eye catching theme for her final which only one will be chosen as winner which will accelerate their future career. The FL had a boring theme and was told by her professor an honest opinion in advance that she won't be winning and suggested to change her theme, even at the last minute, to something more sexy as that was the rage - what's is catching attention right now. That's how her sex APP was born and she does quick sex research in the dorm and get's volunteers to join in for the sake of research to complete the app. Technical mixed with comedy mixed with sex scenes.

Disappointing, inconsistent, unconvincing, not even educational.
mikocot27 May 2021
Sexify clearly tries to ride the same cart as the 'Sex Education', but contrary to the predecssor it is neither cute, nor convincing, nor actually educational.

The main story is forced and more often than not illogical. Obvious doubts are rather ignored than answered and I found it rather annoying. The technological aspect is just disturbing. It's a shame, cause the general idea is cool and the story line is usually the strong side of the polish movies. I believe with only minor changes and expert consultations it could be easily improved. But in the way it was executed: the whole app, the research, sounds cheap and it just doesn't make any sense..

On the educational side, it shows the transformation of 3, very different, characters, how they change mindsets and get out of their comfort zones - this addresses multiple stereotypes and surely can make some people think, great. But there is really not much more than it. In 8h you'll hear hundred of times that the female orgasm is important and is a goal on its own, but not much stands by it. The 2 out of 3 characters won't even experience it. On top of that the idea that there is an algorithm to the orgasm and that the app can auto-magically create it is somehow scary, and doesn't feel like the right message... So yes, it brings attention to the existence of the female orgasm, but that is as far as it goes, before it leaps backwards...

On the positive side, the characters are well built and well played, the side stories are quite realistic and the situations are often hillarious and funny. The supporting actors are among the polish best and did great job at making it more relaxing and funny. Finally, the soundtrack is an actual masterpiece, chapeau bas!

Overall, I feel very disappointed, that such a good idea was poorly executed, even though great actors were involved. With a better director it could have been 8 or 9, but in this form it's rather disturbing than pleasing to watch.

The story is not very engaging or logical or exciting, but i can hear the soundtrack for hours and somehow the szene cutting and cameras etc make it a nice watch.

They have what it takes
fjmsoftware7 May 2021
This production team has what it takes to make a world-class TV series, the direction is there, the sets are there, the acting is there, the music is on point... mostly. This started out really strong, but after 5 episodes it felt like the moany-sexy house music was being overused in scenes it had nothing to do with, and the story didn't ultimately get anywhere. Every thread of this was gearing up for some great victory or success or transformation but the success never materialized. Even if they planned more substantive developments for a second season, it still feels wrong to end the first season with this little closure. And these girls jump straight to the defiant "winner" attitude too fast, with too little actual work behind it, we don't see much of any value that they've actually achieved before starting to act all high and mighty.

This had potential, but I get the sense that there's not enough of a script here to make this good even if a second season is made.

Something that is taboo made into a interesting but yet subtle form
JapanMovies12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a subject matter where I don't really like watching TV shows. But for some reason the way they formatted it's intriguing any interest but yet not too forward. The subtitle at times is a pain in the a... But other than that it's fun to watch. The story gets a little complex because of the three women but it jumps around too much and you lose focus who is who. The actors and actresses are actually quite good. Retrospect of young people sexuality seems to be accurate for this time and date in history. The app at self is something that is reflective of how people try to reach their inhibitions thinking it will help them in the long run. I really do like this TV show and I think I hope it continues I'm only on First season. The representation of young people of today seems to be appropriate. The reason why using an app to help satisfy our ambitions and help us conquer our fears in our desires seems to be what the average person these days is trying to strive for.

give it a chance. not bad actually
Mynameisroman22 June 2021
It you expect a comedy you might be disappointed. It has some funny moments but its more drama than comedy. Its about three different girls who are stuck in their (sex) life and need to change something. The main characters are likeable and the story is believable. But this show is clearly not for everyone. If you don't like it after two episodes don't bother to continue watching. I give it a solid 7 rating.

Very well done!
davidpetty-3859615 January 2023
Sexify is a well-written and executed romp through a younger Polish generation's thoughts on dating, relations, and sex. Given the historically conservative nature of Poland, it was quite a satisfying surprise to see all the pushback from a younger generation. Set initially on a college campus, it follows the lives of the three female protagonists who develop the Sexify app. I found the dialog quite enjoyable, particularly the interchanges between the girls and their occasional mates. I also much enjoyed hearing Polish spoken; I followed with English subtitles. The music fit the scenes. In all, a strong 8, at least! Kudos!

Poland the good, the bad
atleverton4 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sexify is a Polish production on Netflix. Before I start this review, there are things about the series and moments that are genuinely funny. However, it ultimately fails on the message it tries to deliver. It follows three young women who are in university-Natalia, Paulina and Monika. Through various circumstances they end up creating an app to optimize the female orgasm.

It tries to be the voice of liberal Poland, making reference to the fact that sex exists, that homosexuality exists and that it is normal, and that foreigners do in fact live in Poland. While this is admirable, the way that the main character is handled is jarring. It is clear in the beginning episode that she is asexual. She doesn't have the interest in sex that other's have, and she's surprised when she discovers that others have it. She's told that her project to make an app to maximize people's sleep isn't 'sexy' enough (although I think very many people have sleep problems), and then she comes up with the idea for the orgasm app. The comedy comes from the fact that while she is a brilliant programmer, she needs her friends to help her understand sex.

Up to that point the series is brilliant. It then introduces the character of Adam, who is meant to be her love interest. She goes from not having a great interest in sex to being awkward about it. I think that some asexual people are interested in the romantic part of relationships, and others aren't, but it is clear that the writers still think in terms of straight/homosexual and that there are no other kinds of sexuality (or lack of sexuality).

That is the series fatal flaw. But some of the comedic moments are hilarious, and sometimes the characters act in a way that seems natural. Unfortunately that is only sometimes. It's worth a watch if you want to know how modern liberals in Poland view the world-it's a worldview that's about 30 years out of date. Of course, the Polish conservative worldview is about 2000 years out of date-but damaging stereotypes can hurt people-it doesn't matter what ideological framework it comes from.

It touches an important topic but...
penkejk2 May 2021
... that's about it. It doesn't make you think about anything. It doesn't present the topic in any interesting way.

It's another show that tries to touch something important and hopes it's enough to be good. It's not.

Sex education was a great example of the show that can sell you a serious subject in a great way. It was visually beautiful, it was funny, it was sad, it made you think about other people and their problems.

Sexify just...happens. Not a very interesting story. Highly irritating music theme that attacks you all the time. Very unbelievable characters (they are just too much of what they are meant to be). I couldn't make it to the last episode. I believe I had enough around the 5th.

Meh...
chomik19999 May 2021
I think there's an unwritten rule in polish cinema - "if it is targeted at the general public, it's probably garbage". We, as a nation, are unable to do funny, light-hearted films and TV series. Watch any modern polish comedy, and you will most likely find yourself stuck suffering for 90 minutes through mediocre acting, lazy writing, unfunny jokes and boring, pointless plots.

Sexify is no different - what it's supposed to be, I guess, is our version of Sex Education, but it falls miles short in every aspect. Where Sex Ed is subtle, Sexify is vulgar and coarse. Where Sex Ed is funny, Sexify is cringy. When Sex Ed talks about a variety of topics regarding human sexuality, Sexify screams "FEMALE ORGASM!!!" and it's essentially the only thing it has to say.

The acting has its ups and downs, but even good acting won't help if the characters are just way over the top. And we are talking caricaturally over the top. We have Natalia - a total nerd who doesn't know what sex is at 23. Paulina - the typical housewife adolescent who has no say in her relationship and lives under the dictate of her boyfriend. Finally, Monika, the seemingly heartless one-night-stand enthusiast, who deep down is soft, emotional and sad. In essence, the clichést of cliché.

At no point is there an attempt to make the viewer invested in the plot or connected with the characters. There are no attempts to be witty or funny. There are no attempts to inspire some reflection in the viewer. It is just a brainless sit-through of eight hours, which you will most likely not even enjoy that much...

Great series !
elisateis29 April 2021
First, I loved to hear Polish and loved the atmosphere of the film (the music was fun). To me it was an easy to watch series with a feminist touch. As a woman, I am glad that this kind of subject comes up. I was a bit tired of the classic high school (childish) American series to be honest.... Or the old mums that try to finally live their life after realizing that their lives suck. I believe that women are much more than theses stereotypes ;)

Thank's for this refreshing series. Congrats to all the actors and actresses, they are very endearing.

Silly Show
jnrthor18 May 2021
I was interested early but it took a lot of time to get to the punchline. It's an innocuous silly show and while the actresses gave it their all, the material wasn't there. I can say that the three lead actresses are cute and they grew on me over time. And now it sets up for a second season that will likely just revisit season 1 except that these ladies will likely be working to commercialize the app. Unless they can expand that topic there's not much to work with. But it is entertainment. The plot is not nearly compelling as Sex Education.

Surprisingly good for the recent series trends on Netflix.
anotherfigaro30 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When I saw this being advertised on Netflix and being polish and female... I was like " oh probably another embarrassing series" but it turned out to be exactly the opposite.

The cultural and social background of living in Poland are still present but mixed up with a new perspective. I liked the main characters, every one of them had a different struggle in their life and it also showed that the process of a final project can be messy and totally not cohesive. I find that believable as I'm a student myself and it never goes like it's suppose to. They have things to overcome as individuals anf issues they need to face together as a team - and you can see these aspects in the series...how they develop with eachother and even sometimes subconsciously influence one another. The sound is experimental and I guess it's very subjective but I did like the approach. It's something new.

I do think however that they should have showed more of the "how" of developing the app because you don't really see the technical process - this is showed on a superficial level however it makes sense to cut these things a little bit in order to have more time for other plots but I wish there would be a bit more explanation on how they accomplished their whole project in more detail.

Overall I did really enjoy the series.

Like the Sexify app, this series hits the right spot.
MartynGryphon3 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What does one do on a boring Bank Holiday weekend in the UK? The answer is to plumb the depths of Netflix looking for a series to binge watch.

Luckily, I found this little gem of a series from Poland which I completely enjoyed from start to finish.

I was worried for the first few moments because a series called sexify had nudity on screen within the first 30 seconds and I was concerned that was all we would be getting. Titillation with no real substance.

Thankfully, I persevered, as it actually has a great plot.

Aleksandra Skraba plays Natalia, a tech student with a big brain and even bigger ideas who is working on an app that monitors sleep for her ministry competition project. She is disappointed when her sympathetic professor who believes in her abilities tells her that sleep would not be a sexy enough subject to impress the judges of the competition and that such an idea would sink like a stone.

Going back to the drawing board and influenced by the behaviour of her spoilt and promiscuous dorm neighbour Monika, (Sandra Drzymalska), she instead creates an app called Sexify, in order to help women achieve the ultimate orgasm, convinced that the app will have a genuine human benefit for females all over the world rather than just being another smutty sex app. However, still being a virgin, she has no first hand knowledge on the subject to offer any practical contributions. Her main strengths are programming and research. Therefore, she enlists the help of Monika to help her with the 'practical' elements.

She also brings her best friend Paulina, (Maria Sobocinska), on board, who although sexually actively with her boring, yet safe fiance, has been left thoroughly unfulfilled with his unadventurous lovemaking.

In order to get the successful results they are looking for, they turn their dorm room into a 'copulation station', where fellow students can go for their trysts with their significant others providing they complete satisfaction surveys after the act in order to make the app more accurate. However, our three leads soon get in over their heads as they each start to come to terms with and address their own fears, sexuality and inhibitions.

The show is a bit of a cross between, Risky Business and Silicon Valley and while it does contain a moderate amount of nudity, it is done tastefully and it is not gratuitous and is only really used when the plot requires. It is funny without being silly and heartwarming without being sickly sweet.

The three leads are fantastic and they are believable in their roles and it's great to see their characters get closer as friends and colleagues as the series progresses.

I loved this show and I am hoping that it becomes a hot watch and gets the exposure it needs to secure a 2nd, well deserved season.

Enjoy!

Soundtrack killed it.
danielbrown-4710623 May 2021
Great songs and the sounds used are well designed but poorly executed and once heard for the 100th time by the 4th episode, well its just overkill and its killing the show very quickly for me. On top of that the filming style is try-hard and all over the place like its been made by a bunch of cocaine addicts with attention problems. To top it all off the voice acting dubbed to english is broken and unbelievable.

Best interpretation of Eastern-European dorm.
xsmile20086 May 2023
I was a student once. And Sexify makes me feel nostalgic. Yeah it's not American or British style of education and sex life. It's not American comedies with mega-chad football players and cheerleaders. It's about eastern Europe. Yeah, it's not as good as Sex Education. But in my opinion it's more realistic, it has more life it in. And I like it. I like that application they develop, is not some sci-fi fantasy we can often see in movies. It's realistic project that can be done by students. I like how this TV series show important themes. About taboo telling about sex, about old professors that care only about fake achievements and "science", about relationships and how sometimes just open conversation can save couples, about church and sometimes negative effects of it on modern world, about connection between elders and new generation. I also like cast of characters, visual style and music. It's well balanced TV series that made you laugh and care about characters and problems they trying to solve in their lives or in the world.

It's nice to watch a series that actually makes me feel better about myself from time to time. Especially when the series shows humor, realistic main characters and is from Poland, a country I knew nothing about!

Terrible woke Netflix show
cray_zee_horse25 June 2021
Firstly it must be said this politically correct Netflix production has the worst soundtrack I have ever heard on any TV show ever, truly it's incredible how bad the music is. Somebody actually decided to add this soundtrack, it shows how little taste & class Netflix has at the moment.

I tried to like the TV show, but unfortunately once again political correctness and obvious woke messages throughout the show make it almost unwatchable. I hope this tv show doesn't reflect the reality of life in Poland, if it does then they're in trouble.

I'm not sure if they're attempting to make a semi comedy with this tv show, the fact that I'm not sure demonstrates how bad the story line and acting are. I watched the entire series... I'm a masochist it appears. Save your time, it didn't improve in fact it gets a lot worse.

Please God, Netflix, stop making ultra woke productions like this which lack a story, the obvious political messaging is embarrassing and will turn people off eventually.

Fun but with serious understones
iconians1 May 2021
This is obviously, this series is not meant to be too serious, but since this is a Polish series, I was not able to just enjoy it but also found it to have serious societal undertones. Poland can still be a fairly conservative society, and this series offers a good look at the generational shifts with the discussion of certain taboo's.

The series follows 3 ladies who are studying in a tech university. All 3 could not be more different from each other. One is stuck in the same relationship as her parents. One, is exactly the opposite, one-night stand, not a care in life type of a girl. And, our protagonist, who seems to be doing everything she can to get away from her mothers mistakes, while risking repeating them.

Overall, the serious while having those elements, still remains fairly light, but what I found to be the best part of it, how they were able to develop 3 very layered characters and detailed backstory.

Overall, I enjoyed it.
