Wants to be many things.
nedfumpkin1 July 2022
This movie wants to be a revenge movie but falls short. It also wants to be a slasher movie with guns, and falls short. To get an idea of the caliber of this movie, the main character is a history teacher with only four students. They couldn't even afford some BG actors to make even half a class. The rest of the budget was spent on a bit of fake blood.

Cracking on Covid
jeroduptown2 July 2022
Brian Austin Green lost his wife, his daughter, and all respect on campus. So, he goes crazy. Throw in some covid masks and you have a bad C thriller done on a budget.

Okay film, writing could've been better, David Valdes and Acoryé White stood out
mortaldevices21 July 2022
I'm not sure why there are so many repetitive reviews (bots maybe??), but the film is decent at best. The writing could've used more edits and some serious thinking about the subject at hand given the amount of school shooting instances in recent news. However, there were some redeemable qualities about the storyline.

Regarding the actors, David Valdes did a wonderful job making his character funny, relatable, and down-to-earth. Acoryé White also had a great performance, making his character the most emotionally charged, generating a lot of empathy from the viewer's end. Julia Quang portrayed an interesting character and had some good scenes, but I don't think the writer knows a lot about teenagers or teenage romance. Makena Taylor didn't actually captivate my attention. I thought her performance lacked conviction, emotional range, and she looked dazed for half the film. Brian Austin Green had a good performance, but some elements of the story made the character a bit confusing and a sort of joker-wannabe without the cinematic thriller effect.

Lastly, although the concept is interesting, the overall writing and execution weakened the delivery. This is a film good for a one-time watch.

Great concept, poor execution.

Warning: Spoilers
Constantly bringing up the pandemic just got annoying and tiring too fast. I get this was filmed during the pandemic, but that lasted too long and everyone is sick of hearing about it, especially in a film after-the-fact. The concept and story had great potential, but it fell short of a decent thrilling and cohesive story with all the plot issues and nonsense dialogue, and the constant history references were a joke. This felt more like a high school drama class production. Green's performance was decent, but the rest felt fake and forced. It's an ok one-time watch if you have nothing else to see, but don't expect some grand ending, because it's not there. Thankfully the 88 min runtime and decent pacing helped get me through it. A generous 5/10 from me.

Somewhat suspenseful but pretty dumb
trinaboice2 July 2022
IN A NUTSHELL: During the pandemic, a burned-out teacher on the verge of a breakdown overhears his students making fun of him in a zoom class and vows revenge.

The violent movie was directed by Nick Leisure with co-writing help from Tom Chilcoat. Nick Leisure also

With all of the school shootings and revenge murders we've had lately in this country, this movie seems problematic and will hit a disturbing chord with many viewers.

THINGS I LIKED: The cast includes Brian Austin Green and a group of politically-correct diverse teens: Eve Mauro, Makena Taylor, Acorye White, and David Valdes.

It's fairly suspenseful.

A lot of high school teachers will be able to relate to the many frustrations the protagonist has with his job, especially during the pandemic. I personally know teachers who quit their jobs during the Covid quarantine because it was so stressful for them.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: None of the characters are likable at all. The problem with that is you don't feel invested in anyone living or dying. They're all terrible people, so you might even want them all to die.

What public high school class only has 4 students in it? The budget must have been very low that it couldn't afford a few Extras.

I've always enjoyed suspenseful thrillers that go on for hours to feature characters trying to survive an entire night against all odds. The ordeal at the school seemed to only last a couple of hours.

There are a few super cheesy scenes with melodramatic music in Act 3.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: Profanity, a million F-bombs, and crude language Violence Teens talk about intimate relations Teens drink alcohol A teenage boy is naked. We see a quick view from the back, although other characters react to seeing him from the front.

A security guard smokes weed.

We see bloody murders.

A teen flips the bird a couple of times.

Paintball guns and real guns are used.

THEMES: Revenge Authority Public education Pandemic Paintball Politics Disrespect to teachers Hubris

Generic and lacking thrills...
paul_haakonsen2 July 2022
Granted, I will be the first to admit that I wasn't really expecting "Last the Night" to be a particularly great movie, given the fact that the movie was starring Brian Austin Green. Yeah, I can't claim to be harboring much interest in him as an action, nor as a musician for that matter.

However, since "Last the Night" was a movie that I hadn't already seen and given the fact that I had the opportunity to watch it, of course I gave it a chance.

I must say that writers Tom Chilcoat and Nick Leisure didn't exactly churn out an edge-of-your-seat thriller here with this movie. Sure, the movie can be watched once, but that is about it. The storyline in the movie was somewhat far fetched and didn't really have much of any thrill to it. So it was somewhat monotonous and predictable.

The acting performances in "Last the Night" were adequate, taking into consideration the type of movie that this was. However, it was just even more difficult to take Brian Austin Green seriously with that scruffy, dead animal glued to the lower part of his face.

If you enjoy thrillers then "Last the Night" is not a particularly exciting movie.

My rating of "Last the Night", from director Nick Leisure, lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Lee Harvey Oswald

Warning: Spoilers
John Dunbar (Brian Austin Green) teaches American History to 4 high school students online during the pandemic. He is going through a divorce and has anger management issues. He also stalks his ex-wife. Sadie (Makena Taylor) is John's favorite student and she is teased about it. The kids decided to go into the unused school at night to drink and play paintball when John unexpectedly shows up.

In am not sure the whole point of the film. Don't give teachers guns? They did talk about the second amendment. The script was bad. Should have never been made into a film.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex. No nudity.

Pretty bad movie. Darn it- he was gonna shot himself in the head, but wait - we have to sit through another 10 minutes of this crap before the end. Just not very good at all. Stupid story-line.

Well done
haskel-7295117 July 2023
Do not - I cannot stress this enough- piss off a burned out teacher with anger issues while he's going through a divorce. I had zero expectations for this movie, an indie with almost nothing available in the way of reviews from critics and a premiere with absolutely no attention on pay per view. I waited for it to be available on Prime or Tubi, but it would have been worth a rental. Brian Austin Green plays the aforementioned teacher and gives a performance that makes you wonder why he doesn't work more. The rest of the cast is as good, there's not a subpar performance anywhere. The only flaw really is we could use a little more backstory on how the teacher got to this point, but as it is this is solid entertainment and better than a lot of thrillers that get theatrical runs these days.

A revisionist examination and meditation on violence
olivierhadidiz7 March 2024
Last the Night is thought-provoking.

It is in good company with other 80s throwback vehicles of today. At the same time a meditative examination of gun violence in America, (the first shot of the film is that of a history teacher in front of a massive American flag) as it is an excellent portrayal (thanks to its excellent cast) of nihilist high-school malaise.

Upon second viewing, I totally got a De Laurentiis vibe (Maximum Overdrive, anyone?) and even some vestiges of Hammer-horror from it. Mix in a bit of Friday The 13th sans the supernatural, and you have a very interesting, thought-provoking look at mental illness in the age of Covid.

Actually not bad
hellbilly-619449 January 2023
I really didn't expect this to be any good and almost turned it off when I saw people wearing masks and mentioning bird flu or whatever every 20 seconds but it ended up being a decent revenge film. Brian Austin Green is really good in the role and the kids are such stereotypical idiots, it's hilarious (the girl more concerned about her phone than escaping from the killer is great) . The kill scenes aren't great but that's to be expected when it's gun-based, which isn't common for "Slashers". All in all, it's a pretty decent watch and didn't have the political commentary I expected when it started.

Brian Austin Green trying to be Jake Johnson
sketchpoetjon1 July 2022
Just something about the beard, his mannerisms and tone of voice tells me that the casting director wanted Jake Johnson but perhaps couldn't afford him or maybe he declined knowing it would be a bomb.

That being said, pretty average revenge film really. Not enough grit nor substance. Not even any frontal nudity. I think the writer may have had a message in their somewhere but failed to execute it.

Wasted time.
obi_wan_kenobi_UKR26 September 2022
In fact, there are too many stupid and far-fetched plot twists to call this a quality movie.

If the actors for the role of caste teenagers were more or less chosen, then a very colorful character was chosen for the role of the teacher. I don't know how it is in the USA, but in my country such a man would not be admitted to any educational institution. Very cool dude, he also teaches history.

There is nothing here that could really capture the living. There are no feelings for schoolchildren, the main character's psychosis somehow does not stick. The authors did not even manage to explain his motives - why did he become like this?

All this together makes the film weak and barely reaches at least 3 points.

Who thought this was a good idea
wrigco2 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin.

I'm not even sure why I'm giving this 5 stars, but I guess the actors were all OK, they just did what they were told to do.

A History teacher with anger management issues is in the throes of a divorce with his wife etc etc. You know something really bad is going to happen when he leaves her dis-assembled bike on her lawn.

He overhears his 4 (and only has 4) history students dissing him on a Zoom call.

They arrange to hang out at their empty school, closed for Covid and he surprises them there. Mayhem ensues. I can't think why shooting schoolchildren in a school would by any stretch of an imagination be considered a good idea for a movie. In fact, I thought it would all be part of a script he wrote seeing as though that was what he really wanted to do. Still, awful premise.

Disturbing and sad
ericdhall777 November 2023
This was a very disturbing and sad movie. There is such a mental health crisis in America. This movie showcases how cold people and the world can be. It touches on broken relationships, gossip and where that can lead. It's truly sad, in my opinion, how this movie went down but it also brings up an interesting thing to think about. Words hurt. Mental health is important and there should be more accessible ways to get treatment.

I didn't like how this movie played out but unfortunately, it's a sad reality in America today. It also focuses on the damage the lockdown during the "pandemic" really messed with people's heads.

Good story, good acting skills.

If you like thriller movies, I recommend it.

Honestly, I thought the movie would be bad after seeing the poster, but I changed my mind after watching the movie.

It's a good movie to watch at least once. There are action scenes, but it's more like thriller genre than action.

This movie was really cool, thanks to the crew for putting together this . I used to have a scary teacher in school who seemed to have anger issues and how you'd wanna stay away when he's mad , Wild storyline A+ I highly recommend this.

Last the night
jeffkurokouchi4 July 2022
This movie was eye opening experience and very enjoyable. This movie taught me never to take out my anger on other and when feeling mad and upset to take a breather and reset. The all actors and actresses were truly amazing. Especially Makena T. This movie was worth watching and buying. I will for sure to be watching this over and over again. I highly recommend buying it on Amazon and watching it.

Good story

He's in the process of divorcing his wife and can't see his own children well, plus the COVID-19 situation. I understand the main character very well. How hard was it? Even the students' excessive behavior must have felt terrible.

I think his mental breakdown may have led him to that kind of situation. The movie was impressive and good.
