Shrooms to the rescue !
marcotero17 February 2022
Post apocalyptic environment There's a lot going on externally like political drama, disease from living in this broken atmospheric global warming type of environment yet the animation is very modern and colorful still. An adventure will ensue but it has its true crime feel where the end gets you back for more each ep.

Epic worldbuilding!
nightfury-9914929 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Sabuikui Bisco's strength is clearly its worldbuilding. It has a dystopian government, rust disease, LOTS OF MUSHROOMS!!!!, AWESOME mushroom archer people who SHOOT MUSHROOMS!!, a crab steed, cool cyborg animal things like a machine gun wasp, a creepy (but very cool) fingers worm, and more!!

The character designs are pretty cool as well- Bisco's design especially. His goggles are awesome (though I wish we saw some more practical use for them) and I also wish we got a backstory for his tattoo-thing. Additionally I think it's a little dumb that they made Bisco unreasonably strong because he didn't really need to be THAT strong, because his strength kind of downplays his skill as an archer?

Also the opening title and ending title were both BANGERS OMG.

Now for complaints: First, let's start with the traveling. Milo and Bisco were traveling ALL over the place with their crab. It took days. Yet Milo's sister caught up to them super easily. I mean I guess she has a motorcycle while Bisco has a crab, but still! There was definitely some pacing issues with that. I feel like a simple picture of a map tracking their progress before/in the middle of each episode would have been an easy solution and also would have allowed the viewers to understand the scope and scale of things.

Next, I guess this isn't really a complaint nor bad necessarily, but they were trying very hard to make sure Milo and Bisco's relationship did NOT look romantic. There was this one point where Milo was hurt and Bisco was caring for him, they were saying some stuff, and the writers(?) were like: "SHOOT this makes them look gay- QUICK QUICK MAKE THEM DO SOMETHING STRAIGHT!" "Uh uhhhh I KNOW! Let's have Milo randomly shout 'MY SISTER HAS HUGE BREASTS' or something!" And that's exactly what happened smh. I mean I like the Milo's sister x Bisco ship (otp fr) but dang

!!! Now for SUPER EXTREME SPOILERS:!!

Ok the last few episodes were really WEAK. The plot went downhill. Like why the hell did Bisco jump down to kick the guy instead of just shooting him with an arrow from up high. Why didn't he just jump up after pushing that guy into the lava. The creators(?) were trying too hard to kill off Bisco. But if we see the protag die and the first thing viewers say is "that was frickin' stupid" then you've failed. Kill him off better smh. They did Bisco injustice.

THEN Bisco shouted "ILL BE BACK" and I immediately knew that he was going to die and come back somehow. Very obvious plot twist :(

Also, part of this WHOLE thing was Milo learning to become a badass mushroom archer and to be useful. And the last few episodes DID acknowledge that, but Milo did NOT actually do anything to defeat the monster dude. Milo said "I can do this. I can do this without Bisco!!" as a confidence thing, but THEN Bisco came back to life to save Milo's butt. So Milo still clearly depended on Bisco and little character development occurred in that regard.

All in all, SABIKUI BISCO IS A MUST-WATCH!!!! It's EPIC worldbuilding more than compensates for its few plot holes.

Surviving the Fungal Apocalypse
lipnusis2 August 2023
Sabikui Bisco is an anime series that has garnered a moderate amount of attention within the anime community, and it certainly has its strengths, but it also comes with a few noticeable flaws. It is a show that manages to be enjoyable but falls short of becoming truly exceptional.

The plot of Sabikui Bisco is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious event has led to the growth of toxic fungi known as "Sabikui." These fungi have invaded the environment, creating a harsh and dangerous landscape for humanity to survive in. The story follows a group of survivors who are part of a specialized task force called "Bisco," tasked with combating the Sabikui and seeking out potential safe zones for humanity.

One of the show's standout features is its unique and intriguing premise. The concept of a world overrun by toxic fungi is refreshing and adds a layer of originality to the post-apocalyptic genre. The setting is well-developed, and the way the characters interact with their environment, constantly battling the encroaching fungi, creates a sense of tension and urgency throughout the series.

Moreover, Sabikui Bisco boasts a diverse and engaging cast of characters, each with their distinct personalities and backstories. The main characters, particularly the members of the Bisco task force, undergo significant development and growth as the series progresses. Their struggles and camaraderie evoke a sense of attachment, making it easier for viewers to invest in their individual arcs.

Furthermore, the animation and artwork are impressive. The animation studio responsible for the series has put great effort into depicting the post-apocalyptic world and the intricate design of the Sabikui fungi. The dark and eerie atmosphere effectively complements the show's thematic elements, adding to the overall immersion.

However, Sabikui Bisco does suffer from certain shortcomings that prevent it from reaching greater heights. One notable issue is the pacing, which can feel inconsistent at times. Some episodes seem to rush through significant plot points, while others dwell on less important details, leading to an uneven storytelling experience.

Additionally, the world-building, while intriguing, could have been further expanded. The origins and nature of the Sabikui and the event that caused their growth remain relatively unexplored, leaving certain aspects of the story feeling unexplained and underdeveloped.

Moreover, the series occasionally leans into clichéd character tropes and predictable plot twists, hindering its potential for surprise and emotional impact. While the character development is generally commendable, there are moments when character motivations may come across as contrived or forced.

In conclusion, Sabikui Bisco is an anime that has its merits but also faces a few setbacks. Its original premise, engaging characters, and impressive animation contribute to an enjoyable viewing experience. However, the issues with pacing, underdeveloped world-building, and occasional reliance on clichés hold it back from becoming an anime that truly stands out. For those who enjoy post-apocalyptic settings and character-driven narratives, Sabikui Bisco is worth giving a shot, but it may not resonate with everyone equally. With a 7 out of 10 rating, it falls within the range of above-average anime, but it leaves room for improvement to become a standout title in its genre.

VERY UNDERRATED
mark-300801 April 2022
The creatures and plot are so odd, but they play it off so normally that most of these wild things don't even make an impact on the characters. So it kinda lets you just immerse in this odd world they've created. It's also dystopian, but more from the viewpoint of people abusing capitalism rather than extreme communism.

The characters grow rapidly, but in a natural way. It immediately starts off in a rush, so even the lulls have a suspense. For some reason to me it also feels like Cowboy Bebop and Desert Punk.

extraplay-618389 December 2022
This deserves a 10/10 - it is a very unexpected anime. That exceeded my expectations - it was bloody at times, but always bold and interesting - gripping your heart I stayed up all night and watched this show every episode all at once, I don't know why people are not making more of a noise about this anime.

At first thought I didn't know what was happening. Then I watched the second episode, and it gripped me. And Maaaaaan I hooked line and sinker - I cried, I laughed!!!

The characters are so cool and the lore and action and everything is cool as well. I believe this is a cult classic in the making! I want more...
