Following Lust
EdgarST14 April 2024
Did I see this? I do not remember it, I have no idea what the plot was about, but it seems that I did see it, considering these notes that I found about it, during the time when I was following the career of Canadian actor Marc-André Grondin: Pleasant view of a formula story about Lust, a French rock band. We have seen this kind of story many times before, some based on real psychologically-disturbed singers, but for me the language, streets, places and options of the characters, and their relatives and colleagues, kept me attracted and interested. I would not watch it again in quite a while, but it was a good Sunday experience to sit through it.

P. S. By the way, it is not that I do not like Grondin anymore, but it is very difficult for me to find his work in film or television, down here, in Central America.

Well, even if it's Geraldine's husband, i stay honest and says that this movie bores me ! It's exactly the same content as Almost Famous about the up and coming of a rock band ! I suppose i don't have this rock spirit as i only see limited and lazy artists, drinking, smoking pot or whatever, shagging girls and breaking things… I don't understand what's is good doing that… Here the connection is certain to never happen as their songs are rather hollow and stupid (When you wake up next morning, don't worry i will be faraway, whatever you want it or not !!!! Ouah !! such existentialism, such passion !). The stage is this usual dark, crowded, old place that asks you to leave at once…Sure there is rock and roll as Geraldine turns blonds and shake this lethargic band but except this, i had a deep sleep

a wonderful french rock musical (:

Warning: Spoilers
This is an excellent rock musical with a twist: the rock group is French! Marc-Andre Grondin and Arthur Dupont excel in the lead roles - 2 best friends who have unexplored jealousy and deeper unexplored secrets each is keeping from the other.

The music is terrific and I don't even really like rock n' roll all that much! The editing and sound of the music sequences is excellent, and I especially like the scenes in the studio and the creating of the music.

Each and every character is differentiated and interesting. The camera work is stellar and all aspects of film-making add richly to the finished film.

What I like most about this movie is the complexity of each of the characters and the intelligence of the characters. If this was an American film, the dialogue would be "dumbed down".

The women are the film are fascinating, particularly the female record producer and her relationship with the drummer in the group.

I am grateful for TV5MONDE for airing this movie! (:
