As it rolls out new animated series “Barney’s World” on Max and Cartoon Network and prepares a live-action “Barney” movie with Daniel Kaluuya, Mattel will be driving into live action non-pre school premium TV series to grow its brands and properties, Josh Silverman, Mattel’s chief franchise officer, announced on Sunday at his MipJunior leadership keynote at Cannes, entitled Beyond the Toybox: Shaping the Future of Play.
Silverman also confirmed the Netflix release date of “Thomas & Friends: The Christmas Letter Express” one-hour holiday special as Nov. 21 in the U.S. Global launches will be made across a bouquet of broadcast and streaming platforms including Milkshake! on Channel 5 and Nick Jr. in the U.K. and Cartoonito in Italy.

Earlier this week, New Line Cinema unveiled a teaser trailer for the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hancock has signed on to write and direct a supernatural horror film called My Wife and I Bought a Ranch for Amazon MGM Studios.
My Wife and I Bought a Ranch is based on a short story by Matt Query that first appeared on Reddit. Working with his brother Harrison, Query later expanded the story to novel length, and the novel was published with the title Old Country. Hancock’s adaptation will follow a couple who move into their dream home in Idaho only to discover that a malevolent spirit inhabits their valley. This is the second time we’ve heard of a Query novel adaptation this year, as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines...

On Sept. 8, 2017, New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. Pictures released It: Chapter One, the first of two movies based on the classic 1986 novel by Stephen King and a film destined to go down in cinema history as the highest grossing horror movie of all time, earning $701 million worldwide against a measly budget of $40 million or so.
It: Chapter One proved that a mainstream, high-quality, studio-backed picture could still be made from King’s work, after a nearly 20-year period in which many adaptations either did moderately well (1408), bombed outright (Dreamcatcher), or vanished into VOD hell.
Naturally, eager studios and producers unveiled a new wave of King adaptations in It’s wake, for theaters, cable, and hungry-for-content streamers. For a while, it seemed like every week brought the announcement of a new King title. But seven years, one global pandemic, and two industry strikes later, many of these projects have yet to...

The writing duo of Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman received screenplay credit alongside director M. Night Shyamalan on the film Knock at the Cabin, which was an adaptation of the Paul Tremblay book The Cabin at the End of the World. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Desmond and Sherman are set to write to write the script for a horror thriller called Wilderness Reform, which is being produced by Pet Sematary: Bloodlines director Lindsey Anderson Beer and is based on a novel written by Harrison Query and Matt Query.
Wilderness Reform is set up at Paramount Pictures. Beer is producing the film through her Lab Brew production company, with the project being part of her first-look deal with Paramount. Scott Glassgold is also producing through his company Ground Control.
The novel by the Querys is said to have “shades of classic Stephen King stories, dealing with themes of loss of innocence.

About a bunch of teenagers at a remote camp, horror novel adaptation Wilderness Reform is the latest project for the writers of M Night Shyamalan’s Knock At The Cabin.

Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, who previously adapted Paul G Tremblay’s horror novel The Cabin At The End Of The World as that aforementioned Shyamalan joint, are tackling another tense book about scary things happening in the middle of nowhere.

Six decades or so ago, television was dominated by "wholesome" American family sitcoms, with shows like "Leave It to Beaver," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Father Knows Best" serving as not only entertainment but as a model guide for viewers to emulate their own "perfect family." Assimilation was the key to an idyllic existence, but that doesn't make for an exciting TV lineup. Each network had its standard American family show, but in an attempt to motivate viewers not to touch that dial, they started diversifying what a family looked like.
No, that diversity did not come in the form of families of non-white races ("Good Times" wouldn't launch until 1974), but it did come with magical beings like "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched," or monstrously weird like "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters." Both "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters" are so beloved that the shows have been reimagined...

We're returning to 1313 Mockingbird Lane yet again for a new television version of The Munsters, this time planned as a "darker reimagining" of the series.
Horror icon James Wan is producing a new series for Universal Studio Group (Usg) alongside showrunner Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Ingrid Bisu. Wan's company, Atomic Monster, will produce this latest iteration alongside Lab Brew. The original 1964 sitcom initially aired on CBS for 70 episodes from 1964 to 1966.
According to Variety, the logline for this new version of The Munsters describes it as a horror show that "lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse." Between this, the recent success of Abigail (which was based on Dracula's Daughter), and the upcoming Wolf Man from Leigh Whannell, it seems like Universal is intent on making their "Dark Universe" work, even if it doesn't end up being interconnected like the MCU.

In the wake of Rob Zombie’s direct-to-video movie The Munsters back in 2022, Universal has now announced “1313,” a brand new small screen reboot of the iconic television series.
Developed and produced by James Wan’s company Atomic Monster, the new Universal horror series is said to be “a reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters that lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse.”
Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) will serve as the showrunner for “1313.” The title is of course a reference to the Munster family’s address, 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
Deadline notes in their report, “The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer, and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.”
Executive producers are Lindsey Anderson Beer and James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Ingrid Bisu is a co-exec producer on the upcoming series.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines didn’t go over well with a lot of genre fans – including myself – but it was a big success for the Paramount+ streaming service. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, “The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S.” So it’s no surprise that Paramount has renewed their first-look deal with Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew, allowing the filmmaker to continue developing a slate of projects for the studio. This slate includes the new version of Sleepy Hollow that Beer was said to be working on back in 2022.

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?
The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.
THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”
You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

Fans of Stephen Graham Jones‘ Indian Lake Trilogy will have something special with the upcoming final instalment’s audiobook. Set to be released on March 26, Simon & Schuster Audio has announced that The Angel of Indian Lake will have the legendary Stephen King as a featured voice.
King joins Jones himself for the audiobook, alongside Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Barbara Crampton, Angela Goethals (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon), and Andrew J. Robinson (Hellraiser).
The final instalment in the Indian Lake Trilogy, The Angel of Indian Lake picks up four years after the series’ second instalment, Don’t Fear the Reaper.
After “taking the fall” by protecting her friend Letha and her family from incrimination, and spending the past four years in prison, Jade Daniels returns to her hometown of Proofrock, Idaho. Since then, her reputation, and the town, have changed dramatically.

At least one live-action Disney remake just took a major step backward. Last year, we learned that the Oscar-winning Sarah Polley ("Women Talking") was set to direct a new live-action reimagining of the 1940s classic "Bambi." Now, it's been revealed that Polley has left the project. There is currently no word on who will replace her and, not to get too ahead of ourselves here, but the answer may be nobody.
According to a report from The Wrap, Polley has quietly left the remake. It's unclear when the filmmaker departed or why she split from Disney on this one. The report also notes that it's equally unclear if the movie will still move forward. Part of that has to do with the recent departure of Sean Bailey, the former president of Walt Disney Motion Picture Production. Bailey was largely responsible for the deluge of live-action remakes of animated classics that...

Lashana Lynch has found the optimal next role. The actor is attached to star in Optimize, a sci-fi feature from filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer.
Paramount is making the project with Beer’s Lab Brew banner as part of the filmmaker’s first-look deal with the studio. According to the logline, Optimize centers on an “average woman” who “utilizes an AI assistant to optimize all facets of her life, but soon finds that the AI’s pursuit of perfection comes at too high a cost.”
Before she was the director of projects such as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines and the screenwriter behind features such as Chaos Walking, Anderson Beer attended Stanford, where she studied artificial intelligence and robotics. That experience came in handy in crafting Optimize, first as a short story and now as a feature.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the series will follow a young man (Whitehall) who seeks to infiltrate the world of a wealthy family, with Duchovny and van Houten playing the heads of that family.
Duchovny is best known for his starring role in the hit Fox supernatural procedural “The X-Files,” on which he starred as FBI agent Fox Mulder. He played the character not only through much of the series and its recent revival on Fox, but also in two “X-Files” feature films. Duchovny is...

The fourth installment of HBO’s True Detective series is poised to be the spookiest yet. Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, Night Country follows former partners Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they investigate the disappearance of eight researchers from a remote facility. The pair have a tense past, not only with each other, but with others in their small town.
True Detective: Night Country marks Jodie Foster’s first television appearance since the ’70s – not counting her handful of voiceover and narration guest roles in the ’90s and early ’00s – though certainly not her first time starring in a thriller. Foster is joined by a number of other talented actors, including Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, and Christopher Eccleston.
Here’s everyone you need to know in True Detective: Night Country, and where you’ve seen them before.

Pet Sematary has been sequelized, rebooted, and now with the arrival of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines it has a prequel. Adapting Stephen King’s works for the screen is a risky enough proposition, creating new stories based on them even more so as anyone whose seen a few Children of the Corn sequels or reboots can attest. King himself however seems to be happy with this film and tweeted:
“In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary,” wrote King. “The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.”

With Greta Gerwig’s Barbie having proven how lucrative Doll Cinema can be, Mattel is further cashing in: The company and Paramount have teamed up to develop a feature film based on their historical American Girl dolls.
Lindsey Anderson Beer, who most recently wrote the Stephen King spinoff film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, is set to write and produce the as-yet-untitled American Girl movie: “Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls,” Beer said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “They didn’t feel like dolls to play with, rather real people whose worlds we got to imagine ourselves in. They are historically accurate toys and accessories that feature elaborate and immersive backstories uniquely suited to bring to screen.”

“Barbie’s” billion-dollar box office haul has opened the door for more feature film adaptations of iconic plastic ladies. American Girls, the 18-inch dolls that had an absolute chokehold over millennial youths, are finally getting their day on the big screen. That’s right: Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity, Addy (and maybe even a few more — fingers crossed for the ’90s twins) are going to Hollywood.
Fresh off their success from Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster, Mattel Films announced plans to produce another toy-centric flick with Paramount Pictures and Temple Hill Entertainment, based on the American Girl dolls.
Screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer, who penned and directed “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” and Netflix’s “Sierra Burgess is a Loser,” is attached to write the screenplay and produce.

After the $1.4 billion success of Barbie, Mattel Films is putting another one of its beloved doll lines on the development track.
Paramount Pictures and Maze Runner and Twilight outfit Temple Hill are developing a feature project based on the American Girl dolls, with Lindsey Anderson Beer, who recently worked with Paramount on Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, is set to write and produce the project.
Talks between Mattel, Paramount, and Temple Hill began earlier this year.
The American Girl doll line started in the late ’80s, and features dolls with historically accurate backgrounds, the idea being they represent different eras of American history. The line included supplementary books about the dolls’ lives. The first three dolls in the line — Molly, Samantha, and Kirsten — represented the World War II era, turn-of-the-century America, and 19th century farmland, respectively.
Said Beer, “Growing up, my sister and I were American Girl girls. I had Kirsten, and she had Molly.

The PVOD debuts of “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Leave the World Behind,” high-profile movies adapted from adult-oriented bestsellers, are currently #1 on their respective platforms. Martin Scorsese’s film tops all PVOD charts, and the timely Long Island-set thriller co-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground is #1 at Netflix.
Both films dislodged high-powered #1 titles. “Oppenheimer,” released four months after its theatrical run began, enjoyed two weeks in the top PVOD slot. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” the year’s #2 movie (behind “Barbie” and just ahead of Christopher Nolan’s historical epic) managed five days in the lead at Netflix after previous play, which included streaming on Peacock.
“Flower Moon” and “Leave the World Behind” each reflect the state of film platforming. Apple produced “Flower Moon” with Paramount handling theatrical distribution. It had a 46-day window before debuting on revenue-rich PVOD. At $19.99, Apple gets the lion’s share of rentals.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was made specifically for the Paramount+ streaming service, but now it has been announced that Paramount is going to be doing something I wish streaming services would do much more often: while continuing to stream the movie, they will also be giving it a digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release! The digital version will be available for rent or purchase as of December 5th, with the physical media release following on December 19th.
Said to be “based on an untold chapter penned by Stephen King“, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines centers on a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. The prequel film “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” was a hit for Paramount+, as the streamer leveraged the success of its Peak Screaming horror collection in October to debut the original film to record-breaking viewership.
“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” is the most-watched Paramount+ original film in its first 30 days of release, breaking the record previously set by “Teen Wolf: The Movie” when that fim-to-tv-to-film sequel was released in January. In fact, Paramount said “Pet Sematary” broke this record early – it surpassed “Teen Wolf” viewership in just a little over three weeks of release.
Cowritten and directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” is a prequel to the 2019 adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic horror novel and takes place in 1969, following a young Jud Crandall (Jackson White) as he discovers a supernatural force in a nearby cemetery.

Brooklyn’s biggest horror film festival was back for another year of terrifying horror features from across the globe.
A strong mix of feature films, horror shorts, and revered genre classics were shown to sold-out audiences. There was even a sneak preview of Paramount+’s Stephen King prequel project, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, that once again proved to audiences that sometimes dead is, in fact, better. Some of the biggest movies to come out of 2023’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival are already set to premiere on Shudder and Tubi, but the festival’s entire schedule should be mandatory viewing for curious genre fans.
Some of this year’s standout Bhff entries include Property, a Brazilian home invasion horror film that becomes a brutal deconstruction of class and status. Laborers revolt when they learn that their livelihood is being taken away from them, which confines their target to an armored car and progressively removes her options.

Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is producing the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise with Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry – and entertainment industry scooper Daniel Richtman just revealed the plot synopsis for the new film, along with some character descriptions and the title, which isn’t going to be Final Destination 6. This one is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines, which is kind of bummer because Bloodlines is a very over-used subtitle in the horror world. To name just a few, we’ve previously gotten Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, Tremors 5: Bloodlines, and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
But there is good reason for the Bloodlines subtitle, because family bloodlines are important to the story. Jeffrey Reddick – who wrote the initial screenplay for the original Final Destination and contributed to Final Destination 2 – has previously said that...

Amazon MGM Studios has optioned the rights to Marisa Meltzer’s nonfiction page-turner “Glossy” about Glossier founder Emily Weiss for an upcoming TV series, Meltzer confirmed to TheWrap on Monday.
“Glossy: Ambition, Beauty and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’ Glossier,” which was published in September and soon made the New York Times best-seller list, tells the story of how Weiss went from a Teen Vogue intern to a beauty blogger to founding her own successful cosmetics brand, Glossier.
According to several media reports, “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” director Lindsey Anderson Beer is attached to produce through her production company Lab Brew. Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken will executive produce and no showrunner has yet been named.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Pet Sematary (2019) and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023).
In the Master of Horror’s vast collection, few stories cast a shadow so dark as Pet Sematary. Stephen King’s 1983 novel follows Louis Creed and his young family as they fall victim to the grim shadow of death lurking in the woods behind their new house. When the family’s cat Church dies, their friendly neighbor Jud Crandall leads Louis past the charming Pet Sematary deeper into the forest to a burial ground where the dead don’t rest easy. As darkness creeps closer, Louis’s young son Gage becomes the busy road’s next victim and the grieving father attempts to harness whatever power lies beyond the Pet Sematary to reverse the terrible tragedy threatening to destroy his life.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a supernatural horror film directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, she also co-wrote the film with Jeff Buhler. The Paramount+ film is a prequel to the 2019 film Pet Sematary, which was based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is set in 1969 and it revolves around Jud Crandall, who dreams of leaving his hometown but a dark family history will keep him from fulfilling his dream. The upcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon” is bringing the Western genre back into center stage this October.
The film took the top spot on Whip Media’s Movie Anticipation Report for the month, based on viewing intent data from TV Time, Whip Media’s TV and movie tracking app with more than 28 million global registered users. Not only that, the crime drama has already received mass critical acclaim, perhaps making up for its various production complications for distributors Apple and Paramount.
Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert de Niro, and Lily Gladstone play the leads of the highly anticipated film, which is an adaptation of the 2017 book of the same name by author David Grann. Serving as both director and producer, Martin Scorsese also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Eric Roth, marking his latest in a series of collaborations with DiCaprio and de Niro.
Following September’s horror releases, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” takes the No.

One of Stephen King’s best — and bleakest — tales of horror has a new beginning with “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Directed and co-written by Lindsey Anderson Beer (”Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”), the prequel heads back long before the Creeds came to town and follows Jud Crandall (Jackson White) as a young man in Ludlow, Maine, where ancient evil lurks and a corrupted patch of land holds the power to bring back the dead. But of course sometimes dead is better, and “Bloodlines” tells the story of exactly how Jud learned that hard lesson the first time.
The film also has a starry cast, including David Duchovny, Henry Thomas and the legendary Pam Grier. But despite what you might expect for a King adaptation with that pedigree, “Bloodlines” is a streaming exclusive and isn’t heading to theaters, which means you can watch the new “Pet Sematary” movie at home right now.

"Pet Sematary: Bloodlines" is a horror prequel with a unique challenge. How do you take one of the most terrifying chapters in Stephen King's scariest book and expand it into an entire film? The chapter in question concerns a young not-quite-dead man named Timmy Baterman and the very-much-alive Jud Crandall, who will one day age into that haunted next door neighbor with some dark wisdom: "Sometimes, dead is better." Told as brisk flashback in the original text, Jud's most upsetting encounter with the cursed land that brings the dead back to life is an unsettling moment in a novel defined by unsettling moments. It was only a matter of time before someone expanded it into a full-blown feature film.
That challenge fell to co-writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer, who has made a film that functions as a prequel to the 2019 adaptation of the novel, but also stands alone as its own story.
