- Nick Cutter: Connor Temple, Abby Maitland, this is Captain Becker. He's here to protect us so do what he says.
- [Connor and Abby look et each other puzzled as Cutter turns away]
- Nick Cutter: Unless I think he's wrong.
- Sarah Page: I can't believe I saw Ammut, well, what the Egyptians thought was Ammut, a genuine living legend.
- Nick Cutter: [Having an epiphany] Legends. If anomalies have appeared in the past, and they have, if Pristichampsus is sunning itself on the banks of the Nile 3,000 years ago, that's the stuff of legend.
- James Lester: [to Becker] You'll be dealing with a highly strung and and temperamental team of rank amateurs who just happen to be brilliant at what they do. Your job's to stop them getting themselves killed... Oh, by the way, Professor Cutter won't like you, and he'll go out of his way to make your job as difficult as possible. Don't take it personally.
- James Lester: PhD in Egyptology, veteran of archaeological digs in every corner of the Middle East, and now you're giving lectures to school kids at the Museum. How'd that happen?
- Sarah Page: Just not very good at taking orders.
- James Lester: Well in that case, you should fit in like a house on fire! Doctor Page, you cannot talk about anything you saw today, is that clear? Or should I have you arrested for your own safety?
- Sarah Page: Is he always like that?
- Connor Temple: By his standards, he was being polite.
- Sarah Page: I assume you're some kind of thief?
- Nick Cutter: Actually, I'm a professor.
- Sarah Page: I've never seen a professor with a gun before.
- Nick Cutter: ...It's a pretty specialized field.
- Jenny Lewis: Cutter's tracking it now. We have the anomaly site secured, but there's something else. There was an eyewitness - a young woman in the museum.
- James Lester: Well, you know, have her shot and dispose of her body discreetly.
- [pause]
- James Lester: Just kidding.
- Sarah Page: Bow.
- Nick Cutter: What?
- Sarah Page: Bow down.
- Nick Cutter: What are you talking about?
- Sarah Page: This creature is used to being treated like a god - they would have bowed as a sign of respect.
- Abby Maitland: If it doesn't think we're a threat, it might not attack.
- Captain Becker: I'm not bowing.
- Connor Temple: [after accidentally breaking the Sun Cage] I didn't do it.
- Sarah Page: So, it just fell off by itself?
- Connor Temple: Yep.
- Sarah Page: The Sun Cage is cursed! Anyone who touches it is doomed for life.
- Connor Temple: Really?
- Sarah Page: Marion was the last person to touch that.
- Connor Temple: The *dead* one?
- Connor Temple: That's got to be the end of the curse now, right?
- Sarah Page: Here's hoping.
- Abby Maitland: The curse?
- Sarah Page: [after Connor leaves] I made it up.
- Abby Maitland: [laughs] Don't tell him yet.
- Sarah Page: 'Course not.
- James Lester: I assume you've been fully briefed?
- Captain Becker: Yes. sir.
- James Lester: Your job's to tighten up security in every area of the ARC. As you may know, we've had a number of unfortunate lapses recently.
- Captain Becker: I'm aware of that.
- James Lester: You're also aware of the work we do here?
- Captain Becker: You detect anomalies and fight dinosaurs. When necessary.
- James Lester: Correct. You don't sound surprised.
- Captain Becker: I have extensive experience in dinosaur handling, sir. I assumed that was why I was picked for the job,
- James Lester: I take it that's some sort of joke
- Captain Becker: Yes. sir.
- James Lester: A lot of people are skeptical when they join us, Becker. They don't stay that way for long. And, in future, I'll do the jokes.
- Jenny Lewis: What happened to Stephen; it wasn't your fault.
- Nick Cutter: Yeah, I know. It was Helen's.
- Jenny Lewis: Then, why are you blaming yourself?
- Nick Cutter: Because I should have stopped her. That's my job.
- Jenny Lewis: But you can't change the past.
- Nick Cutter: Yeah. You don't know the half of it, Claudia Brown.
- Connor Temple: You know, when I was a kid, I used to think that all the exhibits came to life at night. When I was about eight, I decided to stay behind one night, find out.
- Abby Maitland: What happened?
- Connor Temple: Nothing really. Apart from getting locked in the toilet for three hours.
- [Abby laughs]
- Connor Temple: It's not funny. When they found me, I was hysterical. I've had a problem with museums ever since.
- Jenny Lewis: Shouldn't you have a problem with toilets?
- Connor Temple: Got over that.
- Connor Temple: I bet I can read your mind. You wanna know who we are, what the ARC is, and what the big flickering thing is behind me.
- Sarah Page: Actually, um, I was wondering why an Egyptian demon was trying to eat me.
- Nick Cutter: [Hunting a Creature, on the phone with Connor] We're heading south. I think we've got him.
- Captain Becker: Tell him I'm on my way.
- Connor Temple: Action man says he's coming.
- Nick Cutter: I would like you to join us here at the Anomaly Research Centre. I want you working on the source of all the great myths. Where they were first spotted, when, by whom. Can you find a pattern?
- [Sara thinks]
- Nick Cutter: Or you can go back to lecturing schoolkids. Your choice.
- Sarah Page: Okay, I'm in.
- Nick Cutter: Great news.
- James Lester: I feel safer already.
