The music and voice-over narration are based on The Dark Knight (2008), released the previous summer.
At the Coon's convention, there is a poster in the background of The Coon silhouetted out jumping in the air with lightning striking behind him. This is a parody of the famous graphic novel Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, which was made into two animated films: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (2013).
When Professor Chaos threatens to blow up a hospital, it is a direct reference to The Dark Knight (2008) when Heath Ledger's Joker blows up a hospital as he walks away.
As previously stated this episode is mainly parodying Christopher Nolan's films Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008), namely the dark film noir overtone and narration, plus actor Christian Bale's method of speaking in a low, gravely voice when he is Batman and a normal voice when he is Bruce Wayne. However parts of it also parody the classic TV series Batman (1966), namely its campy, corny dialog like when the police say "Thank you Mysterion, thank you for all your help!" "Godspeed Mysterion, you are a beacon of hope!". These were the kind of things Neil Hamilton's Commissioner Gordon would say to Adam West's Batman and Burt Ward's Robin.
