Fair attempt
laduqesa7 September 2022
There were no belly laughs engendered by this spoof film set in Reykjavík. However there was plenty of wry smiling on my part. The over-the-top plot was deliciously ludicrous as was the number of people bumped off by the two supercops. One wonders how and where the supervillain found his minions as they were dying at a rate of knots.

Just as absurd was the gay love affair - every cliché in the book was there.

And of course bombs get defused with two seconds to spare just as if it was Bruce Willis doing it.

Silly and exaggerated as it was I enjoyed the film which put me in a good mellow mood. .

Not my cup of tea, but may be for you

Warning: Spoilers
If you're into Bollywood-esque, over-the-top parodies then this movies is for you!! I don't know if this missed the mark for me because of cultural differences (I'm American), but this just didn't do it for me. I was so excited to see it that I paid 10 whole dollars for it, which was definitely a mistake (and I am desperately attemting to get it refunded). I understand its a parody, and I love the unique twist they took on the macho cop trope! Its also got a couple pretty funny lines that made me cackle out loud, and expect to see nearly every Hollywood stereotype (enemies to lovers, epic one-liners, unrealistic events, the likes). However, it made me cringe so hard that I actually had to stop watching the movie a little past the halfway mark. I couldn't even finish it. I'm a queer man so I'm always happy to see some representation, but this style of movie just wasn't for me. It may work for someone else though!!

Fun buddy cop romcom
BandSAboutMovies5 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Aren't all buddy cop movies romcoms when you really get down to it? Instead of all that macho posturing and showing off guns, didn't you ever wonder if they really just wanted to, well, show off their guns in private? I've never seen a coming out in the middle of a brutal gunfight, but hey - that's the kind of ballistic buffoonery that Cop Secret has in store.

And if the end feels very Nolan Batman, well, director of photography Elli Cassata was a cameraman on Batman Begins.

Secrets out of the closet
kosmasp18 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
No pun intended - having strong masculine cops is not really something rare in movies. Having them ... and here comes a "spoiler" of sorts ... like individuals of their own gender though? Well you won't be seeing much of that - at least for the time being. Even less so in American movies and all that. It would not sit well with most of the paying audiences.

That said, it should not deter you from watching this. Nothing too explicit - unless you count occassional kissing to be just that. Of course no one is pressuring you to watch this - there is enough other stuff out there for you. But it is a nice addition for those who may have felt exlcuded up til now. Overall a nice movie, action is good, story is decent too ... I reckon it only really differs in that one thing ... well and in being a european movie (french)

Sets out to be shamelessly ridiculous... but falls short
onefineday363 December 2022
From the beginning I knew it was set out to be the parody of Hollywood style cop buddy films with all the cliches. A risky task, and it wasn't really as cringe as I feared it might be... but ultimately failed to entertain me either.

Set-out was OK - the characters were fun enough, production value was OK. Action scenes and special effect could have been bit more polished, but this is not a big budget Hollywood production, so my complaint isn't there.

Problem is it's not tight and effective enough. There are too many repeated unnecessary scenes - Rikki, the baddie, creepily killing and threatening his own men, for example. Thanks to Haraldsson's great portrayal, his creepiness was well established early on. Repeating the similar situation several times only made the impact less and eventually boring. Similarly, there are quite a few scenes and characters that could have been kept simpler and tighter.

All the while, the main point and the twist of the whole film, two cop partners having a romantic relationship is left underdeveloped and underexplored. After the initial clash and alcohol fueled sex, the focus is more on Bussi's inner struggle to come out rather than his relationship to his partner. What is a buddy movie without the bond between the two buddies?

Personally, the real virtue of the film was its hilarious commentary on boring, rule-abiding nature of Icelandic society. After all, this was my first Icelandic film, and I hope it's not to be the last.... Just do a bit better than this for the next, I hope.

Second Gayest Action Movie Ever
Doctor_Enigmatic1 February 2024
After Bad Boys 2.

This movie is fantastic. I grew up on all the old action films of the 80s. Buddy cop movies were always the rage. It feels like Die Hard 3 meets Bad Boys with a bit of Face Off and Sudden Death.

The camera shots used were clear indicators of the inspiration for the film. The story made me realize how much I miss 80s action films. Hot Fuzz was amazing, but that was a while ago now.

Many would always talk about the homoerotic undertones with those macho movies, this movie just took it and brought it forefront. Watching this was like watching an AIDS filled Bruce Willis partnered up with Chris Helmsworth. I say none of these things for offense or as a derogatory. This movie was made for the love of a tike past. The troupes were there, and it almost had a Deadpool-esque air of 4th wall.

This is a funny movie from when you want to turn off your brain and just have a good time. Sometimes it's nice to see the John Woo style over the top ballet to the action.

So it's Tango and Cash by way of a little less gay Michael Bay.

If you see only one Icelandic spoof cop buddy movie this year...
euroGary11 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film opens with two cops involved in a high-speed car chase through the mean streets of downtown Reykjavík. They are chasing a motorbike-riding, leather-clad babe who has staged a bank hold-up. One of the cops, Klemenz, should instead be on the school run and his small son is in the back of the car during the chase - not that Klemenz's partner, the gung-ho, maverick, breaks-all-the-rules 'supercop' Bússi, cares a jot. This results in Klemenz dropping Bússi as his partner and Bússi therefore being paired with fellow supercop Hörður. Hörður is on his second career: he was previously a top international model. This comes back to haunt him when a fellow former model, Rikki Ferrari, returns as a criminal mastermind. While puzzling over Rikki's plans, Hörður and Bússi become boyfriend-and-boyfriend.

So not your average cop movie, then! Spoof cop movies are always fun - lots of eardrum-bursting music, bigger-than-necessary explosions, over-the-top angst etc - and setting one in Iceland adds an extra novelty.

As often happens with comedy films, it is the supporting players who provide the icing on the comedy cake: particular stand-outs here are Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir as the tough-as-nails police chief who is just as likely to pull a gun on her own staff as on a criminal; Steinþór Hróar Steinþórsson as a constantly-complaining henchman; and most of all, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, gifted with a golden opportunity to chew the scenery as the whispering, pretentious Rikki Ferrari ("Why doesn't he ever speak Icelandic?" asks the bewildered Steinþórsson). But leads Auðunn Blöndal (Bússi) and Egil Einarsson (Hörður) certainly do their share of the heavy lifting, hamming it up with - um - gay abandon but also providing action heroes only a spoofly shade or two removed from the real (movie) thing.

The film drags a little towards the end, but is definitely worth watching. If you see only one Icelandic spoof cop buddy movie this year, make this the one! I saw it at the 2021 London Film Festival.

Hilarious
reachtimothy25 March 2022
This is a spoof cop action movie which I enjoyed enormously. There is quite a strong gay twist, which you'll enjoy if you are gay (I am). But you don't need to be gay to enjoy it a lot. It's witty, very often laugh out loud funny, very good performances - the leads of course, but the female police chief deserves a special mention - great raucous music. It apparently cost 0.03% of the budget of Fast and Furious but you'd never know - it's very well made by an accomplished director (an ex-professional footballer, this is actually his first feature film). The cast are all good friends and it shows - they are clearly having a wonderful time, and you will too.

Hilarious action comedy
nrqqkmzcz3 July 2022
Every stereotype possible is exaggerated in an ironic and surprising way while keeping up suspense! I love Icelandic humour and there's plenty of it in that film. It's like everyone's taking him/herself not too serious.
