Definitely a one time watch
i-m-mukeshkumar29 July 2022
Well, lets not discourage the movie just because it has a star kid and nepotism haters are giving once again bad rating to this OK movie. Its a one time watch for sure, you wont regret.

Decent movie
murthy-6371230 July 2022
Time pass movie with comedy. All the actors acted well. The length of the movie is appropriate and makes it a decent comedy movie. Jhanvi kapoor acting was very good and she improved it a lot compare to her previous movies.

Well made dark comedy thriller
jkt200630 July 2022
Yes, it's a dark comedy and a thriller. My takeaway is good story, script but above it all Jahnavi Kapoor! She has arrived guys! So consistent right from the first frame till the last scene, she is consistently into her character, almost flawlessly! The script is consistent until the last 15 mins when it begins to feel like the director wants to wrap up the movie. But overall a surprise package and great fun to watch.

One time watch, this dark comedy is.
pranayjalvi31 July 2022
I haven't watched the original by Nayanthara Kolamaavu Kokila, but Good Luck Jerry was good to watch. The story follows Jaya Kumari aka Jerry (Janhvi Kapoor) who joins mobster group for collecting funds for her mother's treatment.

Jahnvi Kapoor, on a surprising note, had a good performance along with all the supporting characters. The screenplay was quirkily funny, as it should have been. The story is promising and offers a good amount of scope for entertainment. The dark comedy placed in a few scenes evoked laughs.

Compared to the first half, the second half loses its steam. The second half is rushed and results in a hodgepodge where the viewers just can't understand what is happening. There is a lack of clarity in a few scenes.

On the whole, Good Luck Jerry entertains in parts. There are hiccups in the execution till the end. The film is a one-time watch

My Rating : 6/10.

calling uttar pradeshi accent (awadh region) bihari accent

Films have a habit of using uttar pradeshi accent (awadh region) and giving it to uttrakhandi, madya pradesh, bihar, and saying its there accent.

A good remake spoilt by a chaotic climax
OnjiMooteDaMarle31 July 2022
The remake of the Tamil film 'Kolamavu Kokila' is good at parts and Jahnvi does a good job but it is the rest of the cast that excel in their acting. As for the story, the original had a much soothing and realistic ending while this had a chaotic over the top cliché Bollywood climax. The worst thing here was Jahnvi's make up. She looked bright with too much make up and at times her cheeks were very pink for a character that is poor. It messed up every scene that she was in.

Do watch the original on Zee5.

Janhvi Kapoor Starrer Good Luck Jerry is a Delightful and Interesting Dark-Comedy-Crime Movie !!!
cs_rahul_prasad29 July 2022
The official remake of Tamil movie, Kolamaavu Kolika, is set in Punjab where Jaya Kumari aka Jerry (Janhvi Kapoor) lives with her mother, Sarbati (Mita Vashisht), and younger sister, Cherry. She doesn't come from money, so, when her mother is diagnosed with second-stage lung cancer, Jerry has to raise Rs 25 lakhs for the treatment. In a bizarre turn of events, she ends up fooling the cops and retrieving a packet of cocaine for a local drug supplier, Timmy (Jaswant Singh Dalal). The mobster is gobsmacked, takes a shine to her, and hires her as a hustler when she asks him for work.

It's obviously a precarious decision. Jerry wants out, but the price of her freedom is pegged at peddling 100 kilos of cocaine. She's innocent but not naive, and knows that she needs to outplay the gang to stay and keep her family alive. If she does manage that, she will need to evade the police. Can she dodge both parties ?

Janhvi Kapoor portrays the shy but determined Jerry with ease, effortlessly shifting between moods and changes in tonality. Since Good Luck Jerry is a remake of the Lady Superstar Nayanthara-starrer Kolamavu Kokila, comparisons are imminent. But Janhvi plays the role differently than Nayanthara did; whether this be the actor's choice or a directorial call, it works in separating the two actors.

The film's best scenes come through when focusing on Jerry and her family- her mother Sarbati (Mita Vashisht) and her sister Cherry (Samta Sudiksha). Their equation, their quarrels, and their unwavering support for each other are both heartwarming and hilarious.

The laugh riot is replete with way-out situations and every kooky character is hilarious - Timmy's trigger-happy sidekick, Jigar (Sahil Mehta), a conceited and loud Rinku (Deepak Dobriyal), who's in love with Jerry, an outlandish cocaine distributor, Malik (Saurabh Sachdeva), the druglord, Daler (Sushant Singh), Sarbati and her neighbour, Anil (Neeraj Sood), too. All the performers delight with their acting chops. Janhvi plays the role of a walking paradox well. She chooses to be a masseuse against her family's wishes, but knows when and how a girl is supposed to talk, keep mum or laugh. She trembles when there's bloodshed but doesn't flinch from getting someone killed if she feels threatened.

Director Siddharth Sengupta keeps the narrative taut, and turns the situation more curious when Jerry's family is lured into the business. However, towards the end, the film gets monotonous and convoluted with scenes that do not take the story ahead. The longish sequence where Jerry is mistaken to be getting assaulted was jarring and seemed forced to crank up the hilarity. The movie's visual appeal is unique - grubby yet slick - and captures the narrow alleyways and local markets as realistically as the landscapes. Parag Chhabra's soundtrack has been used well, from the dance number, Mor Mor, to Jogan and Paracetamol or the dehati-quirky Jhand Ba.

Good Luck Jerry is a fun watch. Especially because of its cast, including Sushant Singh who, despite his minimal role, creates the atmosphere his character is meant to create in every scene.

kamyryan29 July 2022
Storyline is good, many twists but are balanced well, situational comedy,

Jhannvi kapoor wrongly casted.

Other actress may have added the grip to the story.

Deepak Dobriyal once again not utilised properly.

Great Comedy. Slow Screenplay. Supporting Cast Excellent
ayaanbhojani2 August 2022
I jst finished watching it and came out entertained, the film has a great storyline packed with great comedy indeed! Jahnvi Kapoor has done a good job like i wouldn't say extraordinary or mind-blowing bt she was good overall i felt the director gave her limited dialogues to say nevertheless she gives a decently fair performance bt her comic timing is great, I don't knw the names of the supporting cast bt they are the best performers and apart frm jahnvi thy carry most of the film on their shoulders with their excellent comic timing (performance). Talking of the negatives i felt the film was way too slow and actually tests yr patience it would have been an excellent watch if the director had improved the screenplay which is actually the culprit of a great and enjoyable entertainer. Nevertheless Goodluck Jerry is a great entertainer with a good comedy tht makes you laugh in a serious situation, I rate it a 6.8/10 starz.

rachnamoli-4556731 July 2022
Trust me it's a must watch movie. I haven't appreciated Jahnvi kapoor earlier but this is the first time I can vouch for you will appreciate after watching it. It has everything. A message, a lesson, a bond, a struggle and most importantly a solution. You should go for it.

Good Movie with V. Good acting of Janhvi Kapoor
tyagiboy-4297831 July 2022
Entertaining movie, again reflecting the hurdles of lower middle class life. The best topic for Bollywood in most of the movies.

Movies moves smoothly until we reach the climax, Well the director want to stretch the climax and it was able to do so but with no sense. The movie can be ended before 10 minutes but he want dhaba should have look of some terrorist blast.

I like the acting of Janhvi Kapoor, but at many shots she looks more charming, innocent and that not exactly reflect the life of a lower middle class girl who is supplying the drugs. There can be more more shots like the bus one where she (Janhvi) caught for supplying the drugs. That will make the movie more thriller.

Good Entertainer!

More than Jerry, it's audience who need good luck to watch this film.
SAMTHEBESTEST29 July 2022
Good Luck Jerry (2022) : Movie Review -

Janhvi Kapoor stars in the Hindi remake of Kolamaavu Kokila, which starred Nayanthara in the lead role. The first big question in my mind is how did Nayanthara fit in the role of a girl who wears a school uniform? I still wonder how critics and audiences accepted that? The original wasn't a great flick itself, yet some filmmakers in the Hindi cinema fraternity thought about remaking it. God knows why? Or maybe they liked it too much. Hopefully, the latter one makes sense. Good Luck Jerry erased that first big question for me about age and look as Janhvi perfectly fits for that role with 13 years of age difference between her and Nayanthara. What about the rest of the film? Well, the answer is negative. I hope this puts an end to raining remakes in Bollywood. Kolamaavu Kokila worked for South audiences, for some unspeakable reasons, but it was never supposed to work for the Hindi audiences and the makers knew it. The main reason behind its direct OTT release is not a secret to anybody.

The film is about Jerry (Janhvi Kapoor) and her family. Jerry joins a drug smuggling racket to earn quick money for her mother's Lung cancer, but the consequence puts her and her family in danger. Jerry gets deeper into gangsters racket with every next step and finds new challenges to protect her family. If you have seen the original, then you know what happens in the climax. But if you haven't, let's not spoil the fun for others. The script of Good Luck Jerry offers nothing different from Kolamaavu Kokila, except for a few changes in the climax. A couple of scenes have been trimmed, while some are added as extras to make the climax longer.

Janhvi Kapoor is yet to crack a memorable role in her career and the wait continues with Good Luck Jerry. However, she is not bad here. Somehow she is missing something amazing in the roles and performances, be it Dhadak, Gunjan Saxena, Roohi or now Good Luck Jerry. The real show stealer in this film is Deepak Dobriyal. He is damn funny, unstoppable and you'll want to see more of him. But sadly the film doesn't give you that. His role is smaller than what you demand. Mita Vashisht has acted beautifully in a few scenes, Saurabh Sachdeva is decent and Sushant Singh's accent only sounds good. The supporting cast hasn't got many acting-driven roles, but they bring fun and fulfilment in the comedy.

The same questions which remained unanswered in Kokila's tale have been copied here too. One of the biggest faults I believe was that the writer used co-incidences as conflicts of a masterplan. You can't plan coincidences, and you can't get away with the excuse of cinematic liberty for that. One of two coincidences is okay but not many. Whether it was Kokila or Good Luck Jerry, you see, the family was in danger many times, they could have been killed many times, but every time it was a miss. Because we know the basic formula that the protagonist's family can't be hurt. They can survive many bullets, while the people on the other will be dead with just one bullet or mistaken action. Good Luck Jerry also deals with the humour very poorly.

The dark comedy genre needs more quality stuff, rather than this regional humoured film with below the belt jokes. Remember those classic British crime comedies from the 50s which set the landmark, and then some film in the 90s also made a mark. Forget upper level Hollywood and British cinema, look at Tamil Cinema's own "Soodhu Kavvum" (2013). How funny and humorous that film was. We need more films like it. The humour value in Kokila or Jerry's world is too cheap and cheesy compared to what I am talking about. The film starts with a "Jhandwa" song and how irritating and useless it was. Not just that one song but almost all the songs in the film have spoiled the narrative. Some dialogues are really hilarious while some are too creepy. Mostly crime comedies are for adults only, so there's no issue about it.

Sidharth Sengupta makes his feature film debut with a sort of wanna be good film. I would have loved to say only 'good film,' but that's not the case here. He uses the technical team and his cast members well enough to carry you throughout the ride. However, it's a very long ride and pretty tedious too. The same script would have looked so good in 2 hours? I wonder,.why nobody thought about it. Hotstar is bringing too many remakes, and most of them are watchable. Good Luck Jerry adds one more copy-pasted folder into Hotstar's library, but it's not for the regular readers who have gone through all kinds of global and regional cinema. Moreover, it's not made for the masses, then I really don't know what the Target audience is for this film and how they are looking to make it a hit with such a low profile CV for the less number of vacancies. Overall, Good Luck Jerry is watchable for those who enjoy low level jokes and tricks, while those who have seen the original can stay away from it.

RATING - 4/10*

Why Janhavi?
aditisavale21 August 2022
Everyone has acted well except Janhavi Kapoor. She has only one expression in the whole film. Thankfully everyone else has compensated for her lack of acting and expressions !!

The year's finest movie. Form of filmmaking is still thriving; both the film and the song are masterworks. No one can guess the film's villain at the conclusion of the story.

Another attempt of Making Jahnvi's career
rafamazher30 July 2022
Remake of (south Indian movie) Nayanthara's film kolamavu Kokila. Jahnvi did the same slow acting work in this movie also. They have wasted some of the good actors. The story was ok as it's a remake but jahnvi was very boring in the movie. I don't want to recommend this movie to watch if you think your time is worthy.

save Hindi Film Industry from Punjab people🙏
mydummyac1 August 2022
Hindi film industry should be saved from Punjabi nepotim (producers, directors, actors) as quick as possible, they are using Hindi films to promote Punjabi language, culture, people, characters.

These people suppress hardworking talent especially from hindi region, nawaz, manoj, pankaj, neeraj kabi etc

Last time talent from hindi region like director writer actors came together we got Gangs of Wasseypur.

They show main character as punjabi and set in punjab region with punjabi songs in HINDI films,

tell your stories in punjabi movies.

Now its time to completely remove all there influence in hindi film forever, hindi movies only for hindi region characters, in or outside hindi region

This trend of punjabi main character in hindi films mainly kick started in few decades, and there are so many example in just recent times, chandigarh kare aashique, antim, jersey, jug jug and even Tabbar, a "hindi-punjabi show" whats the need for that?

Even if the movie will be about Uttar pradesh characters they put punjabi songs like water like in Bachhan Pandey.

Hindi film industry for Hindi talent, for Hindi region people stories and for Hindi audience.

Another masterpiece gone down the drain.

Remake of Tamil hit " Kolamaavu Kokila "

How can one select Jahnvi Kapoor - a beginner to map to amazing actress - Nayantara.

Waste of time, better watch Tamil hit Kolamaavu Kokila with English subtitles or Hindi dubbed :)

Best performance by Jahnvi till date
rajnnair30 July 2022
Nice to see Jahnvi becoming better after every film.

This is clearly her best performance till date.

She lives the role of Jerry and the character suits her perfectly.

As a daughter who has to take care of her mother and sister, arranging money for mother's cancer treatment and how she becomes a carrier for gangs trading in drugs.

The songs are good.

The movie is different from the normal stuff dished out by bollywood which is a refresing change.

The movie is a remake of Tamil movie which had Nayantara in the lead role.

Besides Janhvi, Deepak Dobriyal is excellent as her one sided romantic interest.

Worth a watch.

Bland and badly made film. Waste of time & resources & talent.
raosrathore30 July 2022
It's time film makers gave a chance to outside talent too. Or use the star kids for a project that looks justified based on their calibre. This film had amazing actors like Mita Vashishtha but it failed to win my attention after the first 20 mins. Also the paid/ fake IMDb reviews aren't helping this film either. Please do better.

For Deepak Dobriyal

Watch this movie for Deepak Dobriyal. Jahnavi worked hard, but she is not a natural actress. Deepak Dobriyal stole the show. Sahil Mehta also did well in Jigar role of sardar kid.

Light and fun movie
goswami-sandeepan7 September 2022
Nice and light script with quirky songs. All the basic elements for a no brainer movie. The momo seller concept was fresh. Fun watch and Jhanvi does a good job. Ending was very similar to a Priyadarshan movie bringing back memories of simple comedies such as Hungama. All the characters were apt and had a good role. Standout character being jigar.

Smart move to release it in OTT to capture viewers because possibility of watching this on a big screen is less....................................................................... ........................................,..................................................................
