Lindsey Stirling's freestyle on Monday's Dancing With the Stars was one for the ages.
The acclaimed violinist hit the stage during the first night of DWTS' two-night finale, and performed a number tailored specifically to her amazing talents.
Set to the powerful string composition of "Palladio," Stirling and partner Mark Ballas hit the stage in stylized leather conductor's outfits and delivered a show-stealing number that blew the roof off the theater.
Incorporating elements from every style of dance Stirling and Ballas have performed throughout the season, their lengthy freestyle saw them dancing intimately together, then suddenly surrounded by other performers who lifted Stirling high in the air, and then performing side by side yet again, without ever missing a beat.
At one point, the 31-year-old musician danced while playing her violin, and continued to play as she was hoisted in the air and spun around by her imaginative partner.

On Monday, August 28, 2017, Turner Classic Movies will devote an entire day of their “Summer Under the Stars” series to the late, great Louis Burton Lindley Jr. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, well, then just picture the fella riding the bomb like a buckin’ bronco at the end of Dr. Strangelove…, or the racist taskmaster heading up the railroad gang in Blazing Saddles, or the doomed Sheriff Baker, who gets one of the loveliest, most heartbreaking sendoffs in movie history in Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Lindley joined the rodeo circuit when he was 13 and soon picked up the name that would follow him throughout the length of his professional career, in rodeo and in movies & TV. One of the rodeo vets got a look at the lank newcomer and told him, “Slim pickin’s. That’s all you’re gonna get in this rodeo.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In honor of the Cannes Film Festival, the 70th edition of which starts this week, what is the best film to ever win the coveted Palme d’Or?
For a complete list of Palme d’Or winners, click here.
Erin Whitney (@Cinemabite), ScreenCrush
This question is impossible because I clearly haven’t seen all 40 Palme d’Or winners (it’s on my to do list, I swear). But I could easily say “Apocalypse Now,” “Paris, Texas,” “Taxi Driver,” “Amour,” or even “Pulp Fiction.” But since this is a personal question, I have to say “The Tree of Life.” No film has moved me...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Another bad weekend where nothing really popped, which is bad news for a month at the box office where only Clint Eastwood’s Sully exceeded any expectations. Tim Burton’s new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children came out just below my predictions with $29 million, but the Mark Wahlberg-Peter Berg disaster flick Deepwater Horizon was right around where I predicted with $20.2 million. The comedy Masterminds tanked with just $6.5 million for the weekend to end up in sixth place while Disney’s The Queen of Katwe did slightly better than predicted with $2.5 million.
The first full weekend in October has a good deal of competition from the release of the video game Mafia III to the...

Final Update, Monday, 2:29 Pm: Tim Burton’s latest fantasy entry Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children ruled the roost this weekend after a better than expected Sunday. The film catapulted over two other newcomers — Deepwater Horizon from Lionsgate/Summit and Participant Media and Relativity’s misfire Masterminds. Fox and Chernin Entertainment’s Miss Peregrine‘s Home ushered in a final $28.8M with hopes that the film will continue to play right into Halloween. Deepwa…...

Although Gene Wilder turned in dozens of memorable screen performances over the years, he is best known for one role in particular: the eccentric, reclusive confectioner in 1971’s Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. For the last 45 years, Wilder and Wonka have been synonymous, and even a 2005 Tim Burton remake with Johnny Depp in the role could not change that. So what could be more appropriate than a portrait of Wilder as Wonka made entirely out of candy?
A few weeks back, artist Jason Mecier, whose work is both witty and pop culture savvy, unveiled just such a mosaic at the Giddy Candy Company in San Francisco’s Castro District. The work is gaining new attention now in the wake of Wilder’s death on Monday at 83. As Mecier himself puts it, “My Willy Wonka candy portrait lives on.” From the character’s dapper wardrobe to ...

Anyone who watched The Good Wife will be willing to indulge Robert and Michelle King, that now-retired show's creators, as they launch their conceptually bizarre new summer series on CBS. BrainDead - even the inelegant title probably won't put off Good Wife fans - is a satire of Washington politics based on a horror premise borrowed from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But at a certain point in the premiere you may decide that this isn't going to work. In my case, that point arrives when Tony Shalhoub, playing Senator Red Wheatus, tilts his head to the side and seems...

Johnny Depp took some time out from touring with the Hollywood Vampires to immerse himself deep in Romanian culture on Sunday. Depp - who visited "Dracula's Castle" high in the Transylvanian hills with Tim Burton and bandmate Alice Cooper on Saturday - dropped in on Gypsy musicians Ionita and Viorica Din Clejani and their daughter, singer Marguerita. The family hails from the village of Clejani, 25 miles south of the Romanian capital Bucharest, and are leading figures in the Romany music scene. Ionita is also an old Depp friend, having appeared and performed with Romany band Taraf de Haidouks in the...

Alexa PenaVega and pro Mark Ballas brought a little Tim Burton flavor to Monday's Halloween-themed Dancing with the Stars.
The pair struggled last week, landing in the bottom two, but managed to earn straight 9s this week by paying homage to the 1990 Johnny Depp classic.
PenaVega chanelled Winona Ryder's Kim, while Ballas managed to dance in a full Edward costume, complete with giant scissors for hands.
"We worked so hard this week and it was time to rise to the occasion," PenaVega said afterwards.
In her exclusive People blog with husband Carlos PenaVega, PenaVega revealed how difficult preparing for the week had been.

Tim Burton ended up in A&E on Monday (May 4) after sustaining an injury on the set of his latest film.
The director recently began filming Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children in Blackpool with the likes of Eva Green, Samuel L Jackson and Judi Dench.
A spokesperson for Burton told Metro that the filmmaker picked up minor injuries which required medical attention, but did not sustain any breakages. Further details of the incident have not been made public.
The filmmaker's assistant reportedly asked the hospital to corner off a private area for him as he waited to be seen by medical staff.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children stars Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) as 16-year-old Jacob Portman, who discovers a school for supernaturally gifted children.

Yes, Brett Eldredge is the reigning Cma new artist of the year and is also in the running as Acm best new artist, but on Monday night in Nashville, he proved he carries another title: the king of karaoke. For almost three hours, the country hitmaker barhopped with a throng of fans (and People!), putting on a string of performances worthy of the karaoke hall of fame, if there were one - and there should be - if only to place Eldredge in it. The merrymaking began with a Tweet from Eldredge in the late afternoon, inviting anyone who was...

The Way, Way Back — for reasons that should not concern you or I — only cast its lead, generally low-profile actor after grabbing a strong lineup of entirely notable names. With the big business finally out of the way, though, it’s back to nabbing recognizable faces. Next and, possibly, for the last time, Deadline reports that Maya Rudolph, Amanda Peet, and Rob Corddry have been placed in the directorial debut of Descendants writers (and recent Oscar winners) Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. And, no, the story doesn’t give specifics as to their involvement.
So it’s fortunate that we have a general logline for the film as a whole. In The Way, Way Back, Liam James (The Killing) stars as a teenager whose irresponsible mother (Toni Collette) and stepfather (Corddry‘s Seeking a Friend co-star, Steve Carell) drive him to find a job working at a water park, whereat...

An official one-sheet for "The Last Song", a drama film starring Miley Cyrus, has been unleashed on Monday, December 7. Using a scenery of sunset at the beach as its background, the poster features a close-up look at the 17-year-old star as well as her co-star Liam Hemsworth. Additionally, the songstress is captured putting her arms around his waist while they are walking on the shore.
Based on best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks of the same title, "The Last Song" centers its story on Cyrus' Veronica "Ronnie" Miller, who is described as a rebellious teenager. Living separately from their father Steve Miller since their parents got divorced, Ronnie and her brother Jonah Miller are later sent by their mother to spend the summer with their father in Tybee Island, the small Georgia beach town.
