Must See Korean Drama
sarawebster-572891 October 2021
I have watched many Korean Dramas and so far this one is ranking among the best ones I've ever watched. It is addicting and when the episode ends you can't wait until the next episode is available. I would suggest if you are an impatient person to just wait until all the episodes are available.

From the love line, the suspense, the story line and more. It's just really well done. (So far at least)

I'd recommend this one to anybody looking for the next great Korean Drama to watch.

Promising Start 4 ep in
tpradeepkkumar9 September 2021
Cinematography, costumes, CGI everything looks high quality. For a Fantasy genre , storytelling is on point . Plus I always liked the acting skills of the female lead. She is natural and I never get bored watching her. I will update my rating after 10 episodes.

Perfect Blend of History and Fantasy
fake_moviestar26 October 2021
I loved everything about this show! The plot is interesting, different, and well done. The cinematography is gorgeous, and the CGI is very well done, adding a wonderful other-worldly element. The acting was great across the board, from the leads to the secondary characters, and the writing was well done, giving all characters just enough importance to make the viewer care about them all. I thought that Ahn Hyu-Seop did a fantastic job portraying a blind person, and while the realism of some of the things he could do was a bit stretched, they gave enough of an explanation to move past it. There are no boring spots, and I particularly loved the attention given to the art in this show - it was fascinating to see how they used to paint so long ago, and the art was gorgeous and so much fun to see as it was created. The leads have great chemistry, and the ending was very well done and wrapped things up nicely (although I thought the epilogue was a tad unnecessary). I only took a star off because I'm not sure how much re-watch value this has, although it was a fantastic once-watch!

Very Good Drama
storguson28 October 2021
I thoroughly enjoyed Lovers of The Red Sky. It was different from other historical dramas I have seen lately because of the blend of fantasy and realism. The last drama that I enjoyed as much was Mr. Queen. I thought Ahn Hyo-Seop did a wonderful job portraying the blind scholar. He played the part with much dignity and reserve. I look forward to seeing him in future roles.

Started out great, then got predictable
laurynl26 October 2021
Started out really promising and I was eager to watch the next episode each time it came out. The CGI was extremely well done. Around halfway through the series, it starts getting boring, predictable, and cliché. I didn't feel as though the main couple had much chemistry, and there are many things that are pushed to the audience without explanation. There are better historical-fantasy dramas in my opinion.

Best Sageuk fantasy romance
nickannfrancisco23 October 2021
The cinematography is beyond my expectation. With the cast who acted well and shown their professionalism, this drama is indeed a highly-recommended drama. The storyline is unpredictable, every ends of an episode made me felt curious on the next one. For me, this is the best historical fantasy romance. Hopefully, a lot of people recognized this unique and very beautiful drama.

Slow and kinda predictable but good enough
hanalisss30 October 2021
The best thing about this show is the fantastic acting of the leading actress, she shone like no other when the script gave her opportunity ( not many times unfortunately) This script was extremely slow and I missed passion and emotions all around. The drama is well executed and has quality effects but it doesn't quite do it for me, I was expecting more.

It is still enjoyable to watch as a light something.

Beautiful as the paintings
adra-3004027 October 2021
The flow of the drama from the start until the end was gracefully done and beautifully shot....the actors were not dry or obnoxious as expected to with a bundle of cliche or predictable moments.....this drama has hopeful and optismitic sense which much needed in these moments nowadays......I started to watch from the ost by baekhyun Exo. Th drama is as beautiful as baekhyun ost.

If it wasn't for Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Yoo Jung and...
ninchenbienchen15 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...the amazing supporting characters, this show would be a total waste. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth.

The plot sounds really special in the beginning, and it kind of is. And while I felt like they did their best to emphasize the unique part of the storyline in the first half of the show, they totally messed up the second. Because the episodes were always about the same thing: Cheon Gi trying to finish the royal portrait so Ma Wang can be sealed in it, Ha Ram trying to prevent her from doing so because he didn't want anything happen to her (despite not having a better solution to the problem of having Ma Wang sealed in his body) and Grand Prince Juhyang trying to seal Ma Wang in his own body. Over and over and over again. Every small thing that happens in between is predictable and cliché-ridden.

It's such a shame, really, because the cast is so damn talented and the overall plot had great potential. But I guess it always depends on what you make out of it and in this very case, the writers/producers did a poor job, apparently.

Started out great but got boring
nahajn5 December 2021
The drama starts with great promising as the main leads are well known but it becomes predictable after some episodes. Somehow, I feel lack of chemistry between the leads though the music is great.

Best therapy for me
eveecalista26 October 2021
The sweet love and memories of childhood although cliché perfectly suits this genre and the CGI is also amazing and I just love the fact that the makeup and costumes are perfect.. Even deities are dressed up in a very aesthetic way and I am loving it. Btw I called it therapy for me because it is a source of comfort to me whenever I am down... When I have a bad day and want to cry it all out it helps me cry it all out and I feel better... anyways it is a total MUST WATCH!!!

Nice story, great acting, beautiful locations.

The pace, the rythm is perfect.

Again, a K serie.

Thanks to Kim Yoo Jung, with the link of Backstreet Rookie (another great K serie).

OMG, so boring!
elsamirre24 August 2022
I don't know how I managed to watch to the end. Maybe the male lead being so handsome with red eyes. Aside from that, nothing. It pains me to write this because I like sageuk, especially when there is fantasy. The lead actress is adorable as always, I can never forget her character in Lovers Of The Moonlight. Unfortunately, this drama is the antithesis of LOTM: It's lame, boring, messy and cliché. No Chemistry, no romance, no passion, no tension, nothing. There wasn't even a plot twist! I didn't cry, or laugh, I didn't care about any of the characters as they were all shallow and weak-minded, bleh. So many useless characters, by the way! They could have merged some of them to make stronger, livelier, more nuanced people. Ah, such a waste of good material...

Give me my eyes
alaningle77 May 2023
Hong Cheon-gi (Kim Yoo-Jung) is the blind daughter of a gifted painter, the painter was sent mad when he was involved in a ceremony to seal an evil supernatural being called Ma-Wang into a portrait. As a child she meets Ha Ram (Ahn Hyo-seop) and they form a close bond which is later broken when during a ceremony to bring rain Ha Ram becomes blind and Hong Cheon-gi regains her sight. The series is a mix of period and supernatural drama and even though it is a little slow at times it does enough to hold your interest although the ending is made with the belief there would be a second series as there are a lot of cliffhangers. Well acted by all the cast and a warm romance between the leads, I would also like to mention the super acting of the actors who played them as children.

Poor
Park_Min1 August 2023
A poor fantasy that failed to establish a reasonable foundation from the very beginning, it even did a worse job with its brittle world building. The low budget visual effects weren't helping its case either. The cast may seems to be fine on the surface but the characters were as one dimensional as they could come. Its second biggest selling point after fantasy is the romance, of which was the least appealing aspect of the drama. By the end, I couldn't care the slightest about either of the leads and their fate. A cheap Chinese knock off fantasy with gods and dragons would have been better than this.

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews22 December 2021
Korean Drama "Lovers of the Red Sky" did not handle the fantasy element well, which cost it a lot.

The story has a nice start, though the fantasy part was a bit sketchy and wasn't well explained, but at least there was room for improvement. The romance was kind of interesting and the mystery was okay. However, the fantasy element continued being messy, and the love story got boring and predictable. The rest of the story had also with a few surprises, as did the love triangle. Fortunately, the artistic part was nicely made and looked pretty. And the leading lady had an interesting character, which she acted masterfully. However, the male lead could have been better when he was portraying a blind person.

So, overall, three out of ten.

Fake
youngvicky23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How can a blind person be able to do things like someone without any eye defect? Imagine Ha Ram detecting presence of people and even coming to the female painter to offer her umbrella? Moving about and figuring where he is! Too absurb.

The cinematography was good but the play was boring too. The first ten episodes made me almost give up but I continued since I saw some positive reviews but regretted the time I spent.

Then the misery of how the female painter got back her sight was left hanging on a cliff-hanger. We the viewers don't know what the producers have it mind, making it sound like a puzzle for us.
