This powerful, moving documentary traces Noah Levine's harrowing journey from wasted youth to deeply spiritual man. As detailed in his autobiography Dharma Punx, Noah found the strength to overcome a perilously troubled adolescence marred by multiple incarcerations. The film brilliantly explores his transformation, combining interviews with his parents, friends, followers and teachers with footage of both his dissolute punk days as well as his serene adult life. The film does the power of his story justice, encompassing both the grisly details of his nadir as well as the intensity of his dedication to the Buddhist practice. MEDITATE AND DESTROY draws great strength from Noah's narration, as he draws us in with palpable wisdom, honesty, and compassion. This is a real story: invigorating, engrossing, and inspiring.

Punk rock and Buddhism
littany6 December 2009
This is an inspiring story of a man who found a new way of life through Buddhism and punk rock. The two seem like an unlikely combination, but "Meditate and Destroy" shows how they coexist.
Noah Levine was part of a generation of rebellious kids that turned to drugs, punk rock, alcohol and crime. He saw inconsistencies in society. Through Buddhism, he was able to channel this energy positively and turn his life around. He now works to inspire other troubled youth in juvenile halls and prisons as a Buddhist counselor and teacher. "Meditate and Destroy" tells how he turned away from rebellion to meditation and spiritualism.
Director Sarah Fisher touches on the spirit of punk rock in the documentary, a medium that is often misunderstood. A great film for anyone who enjoys punk rock, Buddhism, meditation or inspiring stories.

Meditate and Destroy is an eye opening documentary about Noah Levine's amazing life story. Director Sarah Fisher captures the pain and turmoil Noah went through growing up as an addict in Santa Cruz, California. Drugs, tattoos, punk rock, and internal rebellion, Noah went down the wrong path that almost ended his life. Given a second chance, he finds his true calling, which is teaching Buddhism. In the end, this film made me think of my own life's path. The images and interviews are thought provoking. The story is told fluidly and at sometimes jaw dropping. Masterfully shot and edited. This is one of my favorite documentaries this year.
