This is the end of the end.
chand-suhas25 December 2022
The museum is in need of a new night guard as Larry has got an new job at Tokya Museum and Larry's son Nick is given the job offer to take over as new night guard. Now, Nick is still a boy too scared to fight his self doubt and he his pit against Kahmunrah returning from the last film along with the daddy issues. Plus, they get to travel to ancient Egypt this time and it is upto Nick to find his confidence back on time to bring everybody back to the museum safe.

The film offers nothing new, mainly because I am not the target audience for this animated feature unlike the live-action trilogy. I did chuckle at couple of lines but that was about it. Largely aimed at kids only, I guess it's serves the purpose of giving basic entertainment as it doesn't try anything more. The lines are as pedestrian as a cartoon show might get and the screenplay is extremely convenient.

I hate to give a great Animated movie like this a low score, but in the end it was the story that forced my hand. So let's give points where points are due. The Animation is GREAT! The acting was wonderful! But the plot was just awful. Look, I get that it's a movie directed at kids and what not, and no, I'm not being too picky, the story just kinda falls apart towards the end of the movie. I felt like the writers got lazy towards the end. It's their laziness that prevents me for giving this movie a much more higher star count. But in the same time I admire them for trying. Seriously, it's not every day you see a great Animated movie, and a 2D animated movie to boot! I reward this movie 5 stars for the spot on Animation but only 1 star for the lazy writing. 5 minus 1= 4 stars, that's my final ruling on this beautiful film; take it or leave it.

Same shift. Different movie.
MB-reviewer18516 December 2022
I have not seen the past 3 Night of the Museum movies in a while, but I do remember them being good movies and having some fun with them. Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022) is the 4th movie in this series, and I thought it was just ok.

The animation in the movie is not that bad, and it looks nice. The voice acting is fine, and the characters are the same as the other movies, just with standard personalities that are there to move the average plot along.

The main villain is the same as the earlier movies but not interesting. The movie is kid friendly and keeps things safe without doing something different and interesting like the other 3 movies.

Kids will like Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022) for the animation and the characters in the movie that connect to the other movies. I thought this movie was ok but anything outstanding or worth giving yourself time to see.

Another lazy, dumbed-down cash grab from Disney
BLAlley1 January 2023
What is going on with Disney lately that their sequels to well-liked and respected franchises seem to have no effort put into them?

Willow and National Treasure we're so painful to watch that I couldn't get through the first episodes, and now Night at the Museum has a similar effect, forcing me to turn it off barely ten minutes into the movie.

It doesn't fit into the continuity of the three films, and all the characters are either stupid or mean spirited for some reason.

The way they get Larry's son to be the new night watchman is beyond lazy and uninspired, and essentially makes is hate all of the characters that we know and love.

I think this is the last straw for Disney plus and it's time to unsubscribe.

How to kill a movie franchise in 80 minutes
roythedog12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As someone who grew up watching and absolutely loved the first 3 night at the museum movies even if they didn't hold up as well to adult me, I went into this with an open mind. I wanted to like it, I understood that they couldn't get all of the original actors back to voice their characters and had my expectations lowered. The one positive thing I will say about this movie is that the CGI was beautiful. I loved the 2d drawings come to life looking colorful art style as opposed to more 3D CGI, such beautiful CGI could've been put to much better use than this movie. I would expect this obscene level of laziness, toilet and juvenile humor, and annoyingness from an Illumination movie not Disney. This movie took the intelligent, charming, and witty portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt done by Robin Williams and turned him into a annoying overgrown manchild. It took the already bumbling and silly Doctor McPhee done by Ricky Gervais and turned him into a very mean person with no comedy, I can keep going about how it took the characters live action actors created and did well with and not only defiled them but ruined the ability to enjoy them in the original trilogy. It should tell you something how none of the living original live action actors returned to voice the characters they once played.

The plot is literally is so boring and so full of filler, you could condense it into a 10 minute short and still get the full experience. It literally felt like someone tried to take a 10 minute animated chase short and turn it into a feature length film. The filler, the toilet humor, the annoying defilement of great characters, this movie is just awful and a very big low for Disney. As I said, if the animation was worse and 3d, you'd think it was done by illumination.

If you want a genuine feeling for how soulless this movie feels, go straight from rewatching the amazingly charming live action trilogy straight into this.
braedhunk12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An animated movie for Night at the Museum on paper isn't something I turn my nose up at. I never go into a movie wanting to hate it, always open minded. This just felt soulless, so bare bones, it simply exists.

It feels like it was made for 5 year olds which for something like Cars I understand it more, it's a Pixar classic and kids love that stuff... But for this franchise I don't think it fits. The plot is so lazy, really... in a world full of fantasy and magic that was perfectly balanced as it was they added teleporting continents through photos. It took away so much charm. So wackily far-fetched was a lot of things in this movie. I personally think the only ones that could rate this highly are ones who watched with their young kid and saw them enjoy it or they're just young themselves. Good on them, I wish I enjoyed it like that.

It doesn't kill the franchise for me, that's the good thing about it being an animated feature, you can separate it... thank god. Not a fan of Disney acquiring Night at the Museum... this had all the feels of an unnecessary cash grab.

It wasn't completely irredeemable, there was at least progression with Nick's DJing, he even has a fun tune at the end, and Joan of Arc was a welcome addition I thought her performance too was stellar. But largely the movie is soulless and empty feeling, just don't let it ruin the franchise for you.

Why so negative? It's fun, fast-paced and energetic!
Denis8910 December 2022
There are far worse animated films you can choose. This is not one of them. As the title says it is fun, fast and energetic. No time for slow moments!

Gorgeously animated with great camera shots that enhances the plot.

It is a simple plot but that is what makes it so fun to. Watch! The creators have fun in coming up with various obstacles they can throw at the characters and leaves us with no time to breath between them. And the result is very entertaining for us to behold.

The movie also pays tribute to the previous movies in the franchise and even pokes fun at itself, which again works well for the story. It is a silly story and the ovie knows it..

It left me with a smile, chuckle and a feel good time. It does not invent any wheels but it does not need to either.

As Unnecessary as Toy Story 4
T-ZER018 December 2022
Disney owns 20th Century Fox now, and they are intent on making every possible penny they can. Watching the beginning of this I was totally lost. How did the tablet of Akmenrah get back to New York City permanently? It was decided by the characters that it should stay in London at the end of the third one! If you are trying to argue and say that Tilly the London night guard brought it back, that was only temporary. Why are the characters bullies in the movie, Watch the first few minutes and see how they traumatize a random night guard on purpose just because he's not Larry.

When does this film take place? It doesn't take place after the third, because the third one ended with Larry retiring from night guarding and becoming a professor. Also, Nick, his son, was considering college in the previous one, but now, he's presumably back in high school? Also, wasn't Kahmunrah sent to the underworld? Who made another wax mannequin of him? Why isn't Akmenrah in this despite the "legal disputes" of the actor. That shouldn't be an excuse, Owen Wilson isn't playing Jedidiah in this one as well as Ben Stiller in this.

Just call this a reboot, because it literally makes no sense. I got bored after the first 25 minutes. It's a far step down from the third one, which successfully ended the trilogy and was my personal favorite. Way to go Disney, you ruined another franchise.

Weak...
RosanaBotafogo5 March 2023
Nick Daley is following in his father's footsteps as a night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History, so he knows what happens when the sun goes down. But when the maniacal ruler Kahmunrah escapes, it's up to Nick to save the museum once and for all. An animated version of the 'Night at the Museum' franchise.

Think of a boring, silly and unnecessary animation... Here we have a beautiful example and I like boring and silly things, here the focus and protagonist was the 18-year-old Nicolas, but the drawing is not very captivating, the script uninteresting, not bad at all, just for the moment not entertaining...

Horrible, just horrible.
martinhusby31 December 2022
I found out about this movie from my brother. And I started watching this hopeful that this would at lest have some good things with it.

But just as I hoped that it didn't do, it ruined a great franchise.

Why does Disney have to ruin everything?

I have seen some reviews here saying the CGI is good, and yes it can seam amazing at first, until you realize it was made in 2022.

The story seams to have been set after the 3rd movie, but there is a ton of stuff that is just plain wrong, and is just disappointing for them to mess up.

Here are some of them:
  • Wasn't Nick going to College?

  • Didn't Larry become a teacher?

  • Why is Kahmunrah in New York?

  • Where did the basement stuff come from?

  • Didn't Dr. McPhee know they were alive?

  • Why are they bullies to everyone who's not Larry or Nick?

  • Why is the tablet in New York?

I am mad and disappointed at the existence of this horrible movie.

One of the rare instances a Disney sequel is decent/good.
godzilla-0355010 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I like how Nick is the star of the film. I kinda wish he worked with Larry, but I guess the 'Larry is the night-guard' has been milked dry. So, Nick was a nice change of pace. We got to learn more about Larry's son.

My one gripe with this film, is the return of Kahmunrah. We all saw him disintegrate in the 2nd movie. So, how did he return? Granted, he may have escaped somehow, or his ghost is inhabiting a new body. But, I do like how Seth is presented as a classic, "Where are your manners?" character.

I also like how, Erica threatened to murder Larry if something bad happened to Nick. That scene cracked me up.

Not as bad as the reviews say!
sophiehalliwell-6202429 December 2022
While it doesn't stack up to the humor and fast paced plot lines in the original films, this is not a bad film. It's a lot of fun to watch and brings a whole new perspective on the museum. Some reviews have suggested that the movie was unnecessary, a fact I don't completely disagree with. Nevertheless, I did enjoy myself.

With the story medium changing it also brings a lot of changes to the story. This is not inherently good or bad, but the change has been done well (with a beautiful style of animation!) and allows for a completely new audience to enjoy the same characters and stories!

I really liked the original films and while this is very different from them, it is still and entertaining and engaging watch that I would recommend to anyone who enjoyed the previous films or had never seen any of them.

This is Toy story 4 equivalent unnecessary
tanishaabdulrahman23 December 2022
Seriously Disney do you lack so much creativity nowadays first you do pointless and forgettable squeals like Hocus Pocus, Enchanted and your latest movie strange world just sucked.

I love the night of the museum movies all 3 films it had charm and humor and very memorable actors like Robin Williams, ben stiller, Owen Wilson and more all the actors give it there all. Now this latest one which is unnecessary like Toy story 4 we didn't need four movies it ended fine on third movie.

The animation looks awful looks like something you see in point and click game none of original actors did the voices and no one can top the late Robin Williams as Teddy.

The characters are easily forgettable in comparsion live action version and Disney continues to go downhill theres no creativity anymore just painful cash grabs.

I Made an Account to Specifically Leave This Review
haileybalch8 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. No continuity from the first three movies, no original actors, lazy storytelling and jokes that fall flat. There's so many jokes about clumsiness it just gets tired and repetitive.

The character designs don't look anything like the originals, and even though the animation is good, it doesn't save the film. Why does Nick look like he's in his 30's when he's supposed to be in high school? Why is Dexter not a capuchin monkey?

On top of everything, I think what bothered me most was the pronunciation of "Seth." Why can't they at least get the Egyptian mythology right?

If I could give this negative stars, I would.

This movie was a totall disappointment for me just because of the fact that evreything that came out of most of the charters mouth either made zero science to the era they were in you have cowboys talking about tater tots or they just spoke bad dialogue like some of the things those guys was saying made zit sense and it just was so predictable like when the main character went on abought how he was so stupid we knew what was going to happen were going to defeat this guy using freindship like please stop talking the only enjoyable factor for me was the fact that nostalgia. But this movie ruined some iconic childhood films. So please for the greater good don't waste you time watching this.

Why was this made?
M00NKNIGHT1 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I grew up watching all the Night at the Museum movies, so when I heard a fourth was coming out I was really excited. I went into the movie with an open mind, but after 30 minutes, I had already decided I hated this film. I did finish it because it wouldn't be fair to write a review without watching the whole film.

If this is the fourth movie in the series, why is the tablet back in New York? Why is Nick in high school when, in the third movie, he was about to go to college? Who was the random new French character who we've never seen before? And why is Larry a night guard at a Tokyo museum? In the third movie, he quit his night guard job and became a teacher. Plus, even if he became a night guard again, why would he leave the New York museum and work at the Tokyo museum instead? It makes little sense.

There are other things that just make the movie even worse. All the jokes aren't funny at all. I only slightly laughed once or twice. A lot of the scenes that happened in this film are very similar to the other three Night at the Museum movies. For example, the scene where everyone is on the city bus while the other passengers look at them oddly already happened. And the travelling through pictures dynamic happened as well.

Also, wasn't Nick already dealing with confidence issues in the 3rd film? There is absolutely nothing original in this film and they even managed to ruin the characters too. Teddy is really annoying now and Dr. Mcfee isn't even funny anymore, he's just mean... The directors didn't even seem to put any thought into this film. It's almost as if they didn't watch any of the original movies before making this. The movie is like a terrible fanfiction.

In a nutshell, Night at the Museum 4 is not good. At all. I believe they set up the end of the third film for a fourth, but this just wasn't it. Don't waste your money watching this in theatres and don't waste your time watching it at home. Disney is ruining Marvel, and now they're ruining this.

Humorous but Flat
Skippy31820 January 2024
Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022) loses most of the charm from the original films. Though it does not enhance the story. The best part of the film is Zachary Levi. Though the slapstick humor is a close second.

Teddy Roosevelt's character is mischaracterized. Nearly all of the characters are shallow interpretations of the originals. The film is missing the historical and cultural undertones of the characters that were present in the earlier films. The theme of the series, that history comes alive in museum, is lacking throughout the film.

The plot feels generic and the film is unnecessary. It feels closer to one of the cartoons from the 90s that attempt to turn hit films into cartoons for all ages. Odd choice since this project is based off a series of family friendly films.

Absence of Owen Wilson and Robin Williams is felt. The majority of references to other films seem to exist solely to establish connection, the most memorable and unique parts of the franchise were exploited in the early minutes of the film. Emphasis on comedic elements detract from plot and character development aspects.

Jerry
ragpap9316 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One word review would be Jerry, the kid to whom the torch is passed. Jerry is the one character who single handedly ruins the movie. He apparently has talent as a DJ but up until the teacher mentions that someone who attempts to audition as a dj for a school jazz Festival with a high possibility of embarrassing level failure must surely be very confident with himself. Oh yeah I almost forgot I do not have confidence in myself. Because the protagonist must have a conflict or an issue which he will overcome by the end of the movie. Maybe it was played for laughs. It seemed that way. His father moves on to a Tokyo museum so he recommends his son to replace him at this museum where all the exhibits come to life and dangerous things happen. Nothing like near death experience to bring confidence in you. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. This might be a prelude to a TV show. I may check it out but if there is too much whiny Jerry I might drop it.

This film is a not a fourthquel
gabbymanchorgirl12 March 2023
The day it was announced that Night at the Museum was coming back, I was excited because I'm a big fan of the first three films; but even though I was excited, I did have my concerns.

I'm not a fan of this movie, but I do like the idea that the movie was animated. This was a great way to continue the franchise since there won't be a live action sequel anytime soon. As much I like the 2d animation and some of the background designs, I'm not a fan of some of the characters designs. I can tell the character designer didn't want any of the characters we all know and love, from the original series, to not look anything like they did back in the old films.

One of my biggest complaints about this movie is the writing; the jokes were horrible, too many jokes kept coming from every corner to the point it felt like a Disney channel sitcom with no laugh track(because most of the jokes were bad); Kahmunrah's return could've been better if it had been written better. Instead it only felt like Battle Of The Smithsonian all over again with nothing new.

The writers also made the characters we know from the last three movies annoying. Nicky is a wimp and not confident like in the last movie; in addition the other characters were acting out of character. One of the things the exhibit characters did that was beyond out of character, was when they scared away night guard Ronnie in the beginning of the movie. Sure I bet the writers were trying to get Nicky to become night guard somehow, but it doesn't just make the exhibits look bad, it makes them immature. The exhibits in the original franchise would've gave Ronnie a chance, not threaten him.

This movie had a bunch of continuity eras. For example the events of Secret Of The Tomb(last film) weren't mentioned here as if that movie never happened; Ahkmenrah is not even in this movie, only mentioned once by Theodore Roosevelt but not by name but rather by the fact that he is the younger brother of Kahmunrah. I could tell Theodore Roosevelt or the other characters didn't know him in this movie as if he never existed, not to mention the Tablet of Ahkmenrah is only called "the tablet".

There were some things I did like about this movie. One thing in particular was the music (very similar to the first three movies). Alan Silvestri didn't return to do the music for this film but Joe Paesano did a wonderful job of recapturing the music of this franchise.

None of the original cast from the last three movies didn't reprise their roles in this movie but instead were replaced by Joshua Basset, Zachary Levi, Thomas Lennon(who wrote the first two films) and many others. The new cast members were all fine, I can tell the casting director didn't want most of the cast to voice match Ben Stiller or the late Robin Williams, and the acting was fine in my opinion.

This movie was made more for younger kids and not for the whole family like the original films, which is something that the writers, the producers and even Disney forgot about. That is what made the first three movies special. The fact that everyone could enjoy it no matter how old they were. Unfortunately, it's not like that in this film, most of the jokes were kid friendly that only children would laugh at, and the dialogue felt like a mix of Disney Junior and Nickelodeon, which led me to believe that maybe this movie doesn't care about the original fans.

I do understand that this movie is a canon/reboot and not a fourthquel based on the marketing but as a huge fan of this franchise I can't help but feel disappointed.

In summary, none of the cast from the first three movies were in this movie(and I bet none of them were asked); the writing wasn't the best, and the animation wasn't the best. I feel like the cast, the crew and even Disney only did this movie for a paycheck and not because they love and care about the original films like I do as a fan.

I don't recommend this movie for any fan of the franchise. It feels like it's made for younger audiences rather than for fans of the original films. As much as I do want Night at the Museum to have a future and I believe there's many more stories that can be told in the franchise, I just don't see this movie being the start of it.

I would only watch another animated Night at the Museum movie if they hire better writers, better character designer, and rehire the cast from the first three movies.

gabethedinosaur10 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The best Disney movie ever made . Chris Columbus and Shawn levy did a fantastic job on this movie. Nick was the perfect kid for the night gaurd . The old characters from the live action movies were absolutely awesome and hilarious. Laa still the usual caveman from the third movie. Teddy salagweega. Atila dexter rexy especially kahmunarh have come back to life again hahaha . The animation was so awesome and very well respectful to the live action movies. I hope they do a 5th one where this time a bigger character comes back to life and maybe it's another museum artifact maybe a Japanese samurai. And Nick and his dad travel to Japan and the Samurai was a female and she was the first warrio .

Well, watched the thing all the way through (ugh), and one thing seemed to stand out. This was a Scooby-Doo cartoon, without any of the Scooby gang, and no mystery. Well, let me correct myself - there is ONE mystery associated with this: whose asinine idea was this? Never was a fan of Ben Stiller, and while watching the 3 REAL NATM movies, I asked myself a few times, "would this be better with someone else?" Well, just a few minutes into this one, I was wishing he was in it. Someone in another review wondered why none of the original actors returned for this one? Aside from Robin Williams' obvious reason for absence, I suspect either the rest must have seen the script beforehand, or more likely, Disney simply "cheaped out" with the "talent".

Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again
CinemaSerf19 June 2023
I suppose the idea of picking up from the trilogy after eight years might have made sense on a storyboard somewhere, but this rather lacklustre animation really just reminded me of a feature-length episode of "Scooby Do" - only with a Pharaoh. This time it's son "Nick" who becomes the nightwatchman just in time to thwart the ambitions of "Kahmunrah" to re-emerge from his tomb and take over the world. Yep, it's that predictable - and sadly this animated story offers us really very little by way of originality, basically rehashing the second film from the franchise (2009) but in cartoon form. To be fair, it doesn't hang around and maybe a new audience might appreciate it, but it's completely devoid of menace or comedy and is something you can plonk your kids in front of safe in the knowledge that they could probably watch it again next week and not remember a thing.

It was ok
lisafordeay13 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Night At The Museum Kahmunrah Rises Again is a 2022 animated film that's based on the 2006 film Night At The Museum with Ben Stiller,Robin Williams and Owen Wilson. This time the movie is distributed by Walt Disney Studios instead of 20th Century Fox. Featuring the voice talents of Joshua Bassett,Zachary Levi,Thomas Lennon and Jack Whitehall, this film follows Larry's son Nicky( voiced by Joshua Bassett)who takes over his father's business (voiced by Zachary Levi) as a Night guard. However a pharaoh named Kahmunrah seeks revenge. Will Nicky and the gang stop him?.

Overall it was an OK film. I do prefer the live action ones better than this one. Speaking of Zachary Levi his charcther was barely even in the film at all.

Night at the museum: *museum not found*
julianmcvay14 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Night at the museum 4 is a movie that exists.

Honestly I was excited when this came out, I really liked the trilogy, and this looked like fun! Then I saw it and though it was too much like the wimpy kid reboot. It's a extremely mid animated reboot of a really good trilogy, except I though wimpy kid had its moments.

Kamunrah rises again has ton of problems like:

1. Nick's a screw up, I don't know why, he just is.

2. The events of the 3rd move don't exist, for some reason. No new banners, Lancelot is gone, and there is no mention of anything from the third movie. The only survivor from it was the Larry caveman person, Laa. Other than that, nothing.

3. You saw the title, 95% of the movie doesn't even take place in a museum, the finale take place in Egypt.

4. How the heck is kamunrah in the New York museum of history?! Last I checked he got thrown into a portal in the Smithsonian at the end of the second movie. Not in a box in the basement of the New York museum.

5. Honestly I don't remember the movie being all that funny, which is really disappointing, especially since it follows up one of the greatest comedy's of all time.

Night at the museum 4 is nothing but a flawed stinky follow up to one of the best trilogies in the 21st century. The only praise I can give it is that the actors do actually sound like their own characters. Unlike another horrible follow up *cough cough* megamind vs the doom syndicate *cough*

A Family Bond or a Missed Connection?
sanadalsalt10 August 2023
Let me begin by saying that this film has a great storyline with tremendous potential, but unfortunately, the filmmakers seem to have targeted an age group between 3-5 year-old. It is not a film that a 9-year-old child would truly enjoy.

It was nice to see the beautiful values portrayed in the film, such as friendship, selflessness, and a strong sense of bonding that closely resembles a family bond. However, it would have been better to also include some humor. The film was overly formulaic and lacked originality.

I watched this film with my children, and the part that made us laugh the most was the character of the God of Chaos. He was the most comedic element in the film.

This film can be described as an episode within a series of children's shows, and nothing more. But to be a standalone film, I don't think it succeeded. We didn't get to know the characters well, and there weren't strong enough motivations to connect the audience with them.

In summary, I believe this film was simply a filler for commercial purposes. However, the worst part was the exploitation of the "Night at the Museum" name.
