It seems Discovery is dishing out a bunch of show lately, most seem to be good, but won't make it. This show will probably end up with a Mythbusters type following.
Johnatan Goodwin is an escape artist and puts himself through several stunts in each show. He starts out with a simple test of what ever it is he wants to do to gain knowledge for the final stunt. He then does another test to try out his theories from the info gleaned from the first test, then he puts that info towards his final stunt.
With the help of an almost fearless camera man and an engineer, he puts together escapes that he creates, using what info he got from the first two tests. He demonstrates how he comes up with the the final escape through hypotheses and theory. His escapes are calculated attempts.
The good thing is that sometimes he doesn't escape. He doesn't get seriously hurt, he just fails to finish what he set out to do. I'm not saying I like to see the guy fail, just that when a person fails on a show like this, it makes it seem more real.
I've tuned in each week so far and have not been disappointed with this show and I hope it lasts.
