... and some things I didn't want to know.
I was looking forward to this movie, and Chris somewhat lowered my expectations. He is a filmmaker, into film history, and a big fan of Citizen Kane and of the director. And yet he said that - plot wise - it just didn't grab him.
He said it was technically outstanding, being shot in 8K and then degraded to a degree with dust and scratches being added to make it look like a 1930s film. He said the sound had a bit of an echo to it, so that somebody not knowing the actors might think this IS a 1930s-early 40s era film.
I'm writing this prior to watching "Mank", and I still do intend to watch it. What intrigues me in his review was him mentioning how the Depression and 1930s era politics were influencing how MGM was run. That may be so, but CItizen Kane was produced by RKO Pictures, so I am anxious to see how MGM's woes had anything to do with the production of CItizen Kane.
