Why it's all about America and the US elections? I mean there is a lot of things happening in the world other than the things happened in the US. My first thoughts was that I was watching something will conclude every major event happened in the world -Not just in America.
The first quarter of the documentary was about the things happend in the world, the other hour left was about the things in the US.
I liked the actors they brought and the quality of the production, but the writing was about something I didn't expect -the real things happened last year. Sorry for my English, but I had to spit it out. :)

hilarious political comedy

I'm surprised at how many people don't love this. My girlfriend and I found it hilarious. Hugh Grant is terrific as a pretentious academic, Lisa Kudrow is dead on on a gaslighting White House spokesman, Tracy Ullman is a fun queen. The jokes are clever and funny and the movie does a solid job of sketching out the insanity of 2020.
Ignore the naysayers, check this out. It's hilarious.

Too much about US election

It is supposed to be a comedy but on the contrast I didn't laugh at all. 2020 was in fact a crazy year and we don't expect them to include everything in this film. But it's like the only focus was given on the coronavirus outbreak and the most of it about the US election and Trump administration.

Love Charlie Brooker and there are some funny moments here, but overall this feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity. It's just not that funny or witty. It feels much more heavily political than the usual end of year Screenwipes, and in quite a predictable, not very entertaining way. Shame.

WHO CARES if some of the material has made the rounds before in different forms? To see a lot of it compiled, tweaked and delivered hilariously by actors who were unwaveringly invested in their roles, was one of the best film experiences I have had this year.
What is baffling and eye-roll-worthy is the fact that some people are STILL in denial that most of what was presented (albeit with added humor) is ALSO TRUE! You see it in the "1" ratings by the brainwashed and braindead (who very much like one of the characters portrayed), can WATCH something happen - yet convince themselves they did not see what they just saw. FACTS mean absolutely NOTHING to these people and their confused, failed, ridiculous excuses get more egregious the less THEY can make sense of them. They think that by doubling and tripling down within their own alternate reality, they'll suddenly be correct and everything which has been proven through data, information, graphs, pictures, figures, indexes, videos, facts will be proven to be wrong. THAT makes this film all the more pertinent and even funnier (and a little scary)!
After causing me to laugh out LOUD for close to the 70 full-minutes of its runtime, Death to 2020 has gained a spot within my top 20 favorite movies of all time.

Overall a fun mockumentary that's funny because of how they came at everyone.
It really doesn't matter your stance, they probably made a joke about you (which is likely fueling some of the negative reviews). Yeah the jokes may be "low hanging fruit" as another review described them, but the way they are presented in succession makes this a pretty fun bout of dark humor.

Liked the idea! Lots of hilarious moments and funny actors.
Sadly it heavily goes into American politics instead of talking about more global issues that would have benefited from the attention like problems in Middle East, Europe and basically anything else.
Great idea though and hope we'll have something fun and better for 2021.
Not great, not awful. Could have been so much better though.

2020 provided a lot of material with so much potential for comedic relief, yet there weren't that many laughs in the audience when we watched. The format was odd with all of the fake characters and it was heavily US/UK focused, with disproportionate focus on US and UK politics. Again there were some funny moments but most of the jokes just seemed to fall completely flat.

I wasn't expecting that. Fun, hilarious take on the mockumentary style. Hugh Grant was gold and the bits with the Scientist....🤣! Samuel L. Jackson & Leslie Jones were too funny! Loved the Voice-over narration, as well.

Netflix's new 'play something' algorithm put me on to this and I probably wouldn't have watched it otherwise. I laughed so hard the back of my head hurt. It was like watching a really good edition of SNL's 'Weekend Update' only difference being it's an hour long. Look, it's definitely for an 'Anglo' audience; for Christ's sake Hugh Grant and Tracey Ullman headline. The criticisms leveled in the reviews here are from people who were never going to like it anyway and at times the humor comes at you so fast it is like watching Mel Brooks' 'Blazing Saddles'. The writing is comedy at its very best BY ANYONE'S standard, sometimes in your face and at other times subtle and NO ONE is spared. Others here also panned the 'Borat' movie, tell me that wasn't funny. It is so hard to sift through so much 'content' to find something worth watching , this one goes well beyond one's expectations for a good laugh. The bad reviews, as usual , are from people who don't come at this with an honest open frame of mind, if you like the movie you'll know who they are. This movie is solid eight stars, period.

Probably the first comedy to make me laugh to be honest.
It spoke about real stuff with such great irony, that just made a sigh of relief for me.
Some things were left out (intentionally or not), but it was the perfect amount of time for a movie like this.
I strongly recommend.

It's a really good mockumentary. Makes fun of the absolute irationality of this year that has passed. It isn't an easy task to do that considering how difficult this year has been. But i found myself smilling all throughout.

From the folks who brought you 'Black Mirror', this is an often hilarious mockumentary outlining the fits and foibles of the year just past, one which we all hope to forget very soon. It doesn't follow the typical 'Black Mirror' style, if there is such a thing, in as much as just about every line of dialog or narrative is done in a humorous vein, while taking potshots at both sides of the political spectrum. I can generally handle it when 'my guy' is dissed as long as the 'other guy' gets the same treatment. Some will counter that the resulting outcome wasn't even handed, but even so, both libs and conservatives were skewered pretty well here. Sometimes the jokes got a bit tired, but what the heck, you can put up with it for the mere seventy minute run time the picture delivers. I didn't realize it was Hugh Grant ahead of time when he came on screen as critic Tennyson Foss; he had some clever quips and rejoinders for the interviewer off screen. Samuel L. Jackson, who I swear is just about in everything that comes out these days, was very much channeling his own personal opinion most of the time, while Lisa Kudrow offered up an even more ditzy blonde interpretation of her character form "Friends". This may not have been the best way to remember the year of Covid-19, but it is one of the funnier ones. If you can remove your ideological hat for a brief hour or so, this ought to provide a laugh or two.

There were a few good laughs here and there, but it was so biased that I don't know if the few laughs were enough to outweigh the feeling of annoyance.
Democrats were made fun of in a light way; they made fun of Biden for being old and boring. But the "jokes" about Republicans were constantly accusing Republicans of wrongdoing and immortality. I'm just sick to death of that sort of "humor."
Leslie Jones was the worst part of this. She hardly seemed to be playing a character at all and she didn't say anything funny, even though she is supposed to be a comedienne.
I was disappointed that the film went through the year's events and skipped the "murder hornet" story; one of the few non-divisive news stories of the year, and one that could have certainly been played for laughs.
At the end of the film, I did not come away feeling any better about the crappy year we all just had, and I felt more worried about the future than ever, because this was an example of how polarized we truly are.

Great and unexpected gem of a mocumentary, at the end of this tumultuous year! Stellar performances from Hugh Grant, Cristin Milioti and Diane Morgan in particular. You might laugh, you might cry! But I highly recommend giving it a watch.
Mocks what should be mocked. But it's just not funny.

What a missed opportunity. Death to 2020 was such a good idea. But ultimately it fell so far short in an attempt to appeal to the masses.
I was hoping for a more cerebral approach from Charlie Brooker. I know that sounds pretentious but I believe Death to 2020 would have been so much more impactful (and funny) had it taken itself more seriously.
Hugh Grants character sums it up perfectly. Polarisation plagues today's society. Ironically, this film will do the same with audiences.
