Here’s the latest from the BBC on the 50th anniversary special trailer, a blurry image from the special, and more…
Those of you who’ve seen the BBC’s latest Original Drama trailer will have noticed a distinct lack of Doctor Who therein (not a lack of Doctors we should say, seeing as both David Tennant and Peter Capaldi were featured in their non-Time Lord capacity). That’s hardly a surprise, as when the fiftieth anniversary special trailer eventually arrives, we can’t see it being squeezed in next to a raft of other programming.
When, though, will it arrive?
One fan, @thetimelord_ took a direct route to finding out by asking the BBC the following on Twitter on Saturday the 31st of August, “@BBCOne are you ever going to give us the 50th anniversary trailer?”. Here’s what the official BBC One...

In what is fast becoming a regular fixture in the BBC’s schedule of events (well, every couple of years at least), the Royal Albert Hall was filled with fezes, Sonic Screwdrivers, and more aliens than you could shake a stick at for the third Doctor Who Prom, which was recorded in early July and broadcast yesterday on BBC1.
Like the two previous Doctor Who Proms, this is a very Murray Gold-centric concert given that he has been Doctor Who’s composer since 2005 with a specific focus on the Eleventh Doctor and music from Series 7 episodes including I Am The Doctor, The Impossible Girl, and a beautiful rendition of the climactic song from recent episode The Rings Of Akhaten performed by child actress Kerry Ingram and tenor Allan Clayton. But, as this year’s Prom is also celebrating Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary, it...

The weekend’s here. You’ve just been paid, and it’s burning a hole in your pocket. What’s a pop culture geek to do? In hopes of steering you in the right direction to blow some of that hard-earned cash, it’s time for the Fred Weekend Shopping Guide - your spotlight on the things you didn’t even know you wanted…

Putting to shame all of the holiday specials before, Steven Moffat hit it out of the park with Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol (BBC, Not Rated, Blu-Ray-$19.98 Srp), which brings the Matt Smith 11th Doctor face-to-face with the Scrooge-like Kazran Sardick, whose heart must be melted in time for a threatened interstellar cruise liner to land safely on his planet. What follows is a lovely...

Hustle is back, Episodes begins, the UK gets No Ordinary Family, and more Breaking Bad. Plus there are plenty of films on telly worth catching in the week ahead...
After a skipped week for the holiday, we can enter 2011 in style with a week of great programming that sees a few favourites return for our viewing pleasure.
If you missed Not Going Out last night, you can still watch the fourth series premiere episode, Drugs, tonight at midnight if you have BBC HD, or catch up on iPlayer here, then follow the series on Thursdays at 9:30pm on BBC1. The show, which stars stellar comedians Lee Mack and Tim Vine, had a terrific first outing, which we've reviewed here, so you can stop back and add your impressions when you've seen it.
We get another chance to catch Doctor Who At The Proms 2010 in an abbreviated, but appreciated opportunity...

Doctor Who At The Proms, a new fourth series of Mad Men, a return to Deadwood and Mock The Week, plus great movies for the weekend ahead...
We start the week with a musical treat and a temporary fix for our Doctor Who habits. On Monday, September 6th, at 8:30pm, BBC3 hosts Doctor Who At The Proms 2010 where a number of Who cast and characters will tap toes and sway eye stalks to Murray Gold's music. We'll have a special remembrance on the day from a fan who was in attendance at the filming of the programme. You'll find it in our TV section on Monday, with an additional reminder about the broadcast.
We heard good things about Deadwood, but missed the show when it first aired here. We reckon we'll rectify that gap in our TV western drama viewing and TCM aims to help, with daily airings...

Just yesterday (well, last year), it seemed that RiffTrax was just a web concern, with nary a physical DVD release to their name. Now, the DVD releases are coming fast and furious, the latest being another two volumes of short subjects featuring riffsters (and MST3K alum) Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, & Bill Corbett - Wide World Of Shorts & Shorts-tacular Shorts-stravaganza (Legend, Not Rated, DVD-$9.95 Srp each). Both are excellent.
