This story should have been told with a proper script and with better actors. The script sounds like it was written by a high school freshman. The acting made the script even worse.

Bad visual effects, and an even worst CGI, based on true story, but at least make the storyline interesting. The actors are not that good either.

Apart from the huge departure from the factual history this movie is based on, the acting quality is poor, the CGI pathetic, bad script, numerous goofs throughout the movie, and the whole movie does not flow well. It is a very bad attempt at trying to recreate an historic event of WW2. Do not bother watching this movie. It is terrible.

nothing to do with a PT boat

This is all about a merchant marine supply ship and her crew fighting like a PT crew. There is no PT in this movie except at the beginning when one gets destroyed. Extremely low budget.

If I could give no stars I would have. So I guess I have to give it one.

As a movie (factual as well) it was an absolute disgrace. What more can I say everything was totally wrong with this movie. Worst acting, even worse CGI.

I have to ask where in God's name did they get the actors from?

Had to turn it off after 15 minutes, could not torture myself any longer.

Disclaimer: Only saw the first half we couldn't stand to watch any more.

Truly truly rubbish.

Claims to be based upon reality. Not sure "who's" reality they're talking about, but my guess is that it's some weird alternative reality.

Spoiler alert ================= To comment on a few issues:

• Deciding to try to fight a sub in a merchant ship (I guess it's possible, but not by choice)
• In the movie, the depth charges were fired. In reality, they were rolled off the back
• Part way through combat with a sub, the liberty ship slows to "dead slow". Is that to make themselves an easier target?

• Seriously rubbish dialogue, hardly any of which sounded even vaguely accurate
• A crewman looking out of the front of the ship, "u-boat at 2 o'clock". Really? Well that's on your right then
• In brilliant calm weather, only spotted a u-boat at 800 yards. In return, the u-boat hadn't even spotted the bloody huge great bit merchant ship
• The "88" on the sub morphes into an auto-cannon when firing
• Why are the deck guns pointing at the sky at a range of 800 yards or less?

Etc.

Worse war movie I've ever seen.

Awesome History

Without this movie we would never hear about the history of SS Lawton B Evans and her heroic crew. Despite negative reviews it's a story worth hearing especially once you investigate after watching the movie. It is the only Liberty ship to survive battle! It actually survived 2 battles and the one at Anzio lasted 5 days. Fighting land and air attacks shooting down 5 enemy planes it really is a special story!

Oddly enough... When I watch a movie titled "Rebels of PT-218"... I just kind of sort of look forward to watching a movie about a PT boat... one of my remaining childhood fascinations.

So... what do I get instead? I get a movie in which I get to watch the only PT boat in the entire movie get blown up in the first few minutes! The rest of the movie revolves around a Liberty ship. Actual title 'should' have been "Rebels of Liberty-218" Other than that... the movie is rather... 'predictable'. A combat thirsty captain who insists on looking for trouble, and gets some of his men killed because he takes unnecessary chances. He sends out only four men to take out two heavily guarded gun emplacements. Not a man I'd wish to serve under. I won't tell you how it ends, because you can probably guess.

What's the point to make such a crap?

Totally out of mind to see an US seaman to wear a modern tactical vest to make charge on a 88mm gun!!! OMG!!! It is also weird for a German U-boat to surface out of the water and engages in gun battle to an US transportation ship, where the hell are their torpedoes and the sub is led by a SS officer! This is simply one of the stupidest film I have ever seen in my life. Strongly recommend to avoid it.

The headline says it all. I think we wrote better scripts playing army when I was a kid. An absurd farce. There are so many mistakes in this movie it would crash the server if I listed them all under "goofs". We need to bring back Match Game or Hollywood Squares so washed up actors can earn a respectable living instead of being in garbage like this. Don't waste your time.

How does this movie get a 5.3 rating? Somebody failed statistics class.

Picked this movie purely on the 6.6 rating it had on here ,,, no idea how it got that. When I went back and looked at reviews the highest it had was a 4 and that didn't have anything nice to say. Plot, cast, CGI, story line are all horrible. Even the title is bad ,,, you can't tell the difference between a PT boat and a freighter? Nothing to see here, move along!

Quite possibly the worst WWII movie ever made that wasn't intended to be a satire or a comedy. First off its not a PT Boat (patrol torpedo) its a Liberty ship meaning it would have the designation EC (emergency cargo), then every situation depicted is either ridiculous or just plain laughable. Supposedly based on a true story all I can say is if any of those men are still alive they would be truly embarrassed by this train wreck of a movie.

I can't believe that big name actors even played in this poor quality of a movie. Pieces of uniforms not period correct. The hand gun that the captain used wasn't period correct. Nothing to do with a pt boat.

Chock full of cliches, bad or cheap CGI and corny dialogue, plus unrealistic take on the events of Operation Avalanche. But this is funny. This is unreal plastic super heroes on the high seas. Im searching the actors to see if someone has a cell phone in their pocket, or wearing reebok/addidas sneakers. I love how the 5 inch gun is craned way up when firing on the sub that is only 300 years away, and the round falls short, haha. Nazis, look out this guy means business. The meticulously planned operation onto Sicily can only muster this cargo ship as an battery to take out shore guns. Haha, pull the other one. Makes the mighty US navy look like the Panamanian Navy of Noriega.

Ed Wood came back from the gave to direct this. Must have been written by some under 40 kid that never attended a history class.

Giving "secret" plans over the Radio , non encrypted, full detail as to where and when an invasion to be help.

Assured fakery on the guy running the 20mm gun Amateur special effect I tried to stay with it, I could not.

Must be sad for actors in need of money having to be involved in this bomb.

So incoherent, so poorly written, lousy acting, mismatched and completely inauthentic uniforms. What WWII ship ever displayed a 50 star flag? Ensigns wearing a chief's hat and not an enlisted above E5 anywhere in sight. Ships showing white lights above deck at night when they are in enemy territory?!!!

This movie is actually a poorly written, directed, acted, edited, spoof, of WWII naval combat.
