Excellent movie - loved it

Not sure why the one review here was bad. I thought the movie and the characters were great. The reviewer forgot to take into consideration that the father had died and it's impact on Damiaan's character. His relationship with his mother is deep yet not too possessive. It is natural and normal that he felt a little jealous after his mom moved away. I didn't find him spoiled at all on the contrary very modest and hard working kid yet charming and likable. I also liked the ending. I wouldn't say it is a perfect movie but it is well done and the story is heartfelt. Really liked it. Highly recommended.

strange situations that feel unnatural

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS!

I have never written a review before so this seems like a good(or bad) movie to start with!

I liked the idea of a movie that shows a relationship between son and mother and what it means in this day and age. I thought this would be an interesting movie but I didn't like it at all. I believe the movie tries to show us a bond between the son and the mother but it fails to convey this.

The weirdness all starts when the son, Damiaan, decides to leave his house suddenly out of nowhere. He just takes all his stuff and leaves without telling his mom. The mother isn't even that surprised and doesn't think about visiting him until after a few weeks/months? That is really strange considering that they should have a bond between them. If my son were to leave my home at 17/18 years old without telling me what he is going to do, where he is going or saying a proper goodbye to me it would really concern me. What the mother does is really strange. She doesn't think about it much and quickly falls in love with another man.

A situation that also seemed stupid was the love plot between Damiaan and the artistic girl. First she isn't interested at all, I wouldn't blame her, and then out of nowhere she calls him up. She asks him if he's interested in living in the dorm, that looks more like a dirty squat, were she also lives. Suddenly they start getting a sort of bond and eventually they go to bed with each other but it feels strange. Nobody would like to be with Damiaan trust me. He is just too much of a hanger-on and childish.

There are more confusing situations/actions but it is too much to sum up. These were two examples out of many.

Another thing that really annoyed me was the character of Damiaan. He is really flat and plain boring to watch. He acts like a spoiled, dumb and impolite child. He wears clothing that is meant to look cool but is childish, like the director didn't know how kids dress. If he was meant to convey this stupid vibe then well done! But I don't think this was meant to come over like this.

Something I also found hard to grasp and confusing was the time. I didn't know how much time was passing by between events. It could be months that passed but also mere days. Really confusing. For how long did Damiaan leave his home? How long was he living on his own? For how long did the mother leave with the guy she just met?

This movie was weird. The things that were happening didn't seem realistic at all to me. I only finished watching it because I was wondering how many unnatural situations they could put in one movie and which stupid ending they could give this.

I wouldn't recommend this movie.
