Where you get best of everything
snehaphalke18 November 2020
I have watched many bl/romance drama till now but I was lucky enough to stumble upon this masterpiece. I don't want to just label this as a bl drama, I would rather go ahead and say it's a romance drama. This is a story of two teenagers and we all must have seen/experienced such a story before but what makes it so exceptional is the acting, direction, cinematography, background scores, characters... I can go on and on!

Everything is polished here and sets a standard for entire entertainment industry out there. This is the first drama where I have re-watched episodes multiple times. I HAVE NEVER DONE this before for any drama except for Friends. If I start talking about the chemistry between the leads then I won't be able to finish this review. What I like the best here is the confusion/desire/attraction/love is all so innocent and real that it will make you cry and make you remember when you were 17.

If you are planning to watch this series then please go ahead because if you won't then you have missed watching a masterpiece.

The only best thing that happened in 2020 is "I told sunset about you"

drheenatanwar24 November 2020
First of all this is not just a BL drama ,this drama is bunch of emotion and feelings of friends, family, brother, lovers. This drama is a feeling you just can't give it genre of BL or LGBTQ. This drama is not like other bl drama of Thailand which contain cringe. This series is a pure art of acting and music. Main lead actors gave there best acting level to show emotions of two confused boys .direction of this series was very good.ost are so good ,you will fall for it. This drama will make you to feel sadness, happiness, sexual tension, sacrifice, struggle of life in just those 5 episodes. You will fall for it surely, you will lost in there life. I want this series to became famous because it deserves .

That's the maximum a BL show can dream to do
m-alika17 November 2020
To view, contempt, to die for...to binge. The definition of masterpiece. Every episode itself is full of emotions and dreamy scenes.....scenes that go way beyond the screen right into the viewers hearts. It's a struggle of showing real emotions or just go with social norms. The main actors chemistry is undeniable and we thank them for this...for doing their roles (and not only) so vivid and real. The OST is absolutely lovely and everything this show has, it's a maximum. You can't ask for more.

An instant Classic
robinpuck27 November 2020
I have watched many BL stories from many countries. This is the most highly polished, technically beautiful, and mature series I can recall.

The cinematography is captivating. The soundtrack near perfection. And the actors are really very talented -- not like those series with a few handsome boys who are barely out of level-2 acting class.

I personally love the symbolism that runs throughout the show. If you like directors that use things like colors, flowers, firecrackers, or even coconut oil to weave a beautiful tapestry that we can follow visually in the narrative, this will not disappoint.

To be honest, the production values are so high that I felt I had watched 5 separate, but related, movies.

I do not use the word "Classic" lightly. It gets thrown around carelessly for every glitzy special-effects sci-fi or fantasy film that comes along. But in this case, you will find yourself going back to review scenes so special that you don't want to move on to the next episode without savoring them again. And guess what, you will find equally addictive and powerful scenes in the NEXT episode, when you get there! See if I am wrong in this.

Do not be surprised if some of the more touching or intense scenes stir some deep memories from high school or college. Thus, a handy box of tissues -- or extra napkins if you like to eat and watch BL -- would be advised.

Cheers.

Best BL Series Ever Made
Xeraphin25 November 2020
When I rate BL series on IMDB, I usually rate them out of 9 instead of 10 as I usually watch them for fun (and out of addiction). But it would be unfair to rate this masterpiece anything below 10. The dialogues, writing, acting, OST, everything was just perfect. When a character was embarrassed, I was so embarrassed myself as well that I had to pause for a minute and then continue to watch. When someone is sad, you feel their sadness and when someone is happy, you just can't stop smiling with them. This must be the first result when one looks up "BL series" in any search engine.

You shouldn't miss this to the world!

This one's a BL masterpiece. A work of an art, I must say. Every thing about it is just perfect and I'm not exaggerating. I mean it. From the production, cinematography, pacing, transition, execution, blocking, acting. You can see that its creators never missed a thing. They never settle for less. And it's the details I considered the craziest part, it's mindblowing! You'd totally get what I'm saying once you watch the whole thing. It's worth it. It's incomparably sublime!

Best Bromance Series I Had Ever Watched
jkiu-9852823 November 2020
As a person that has been constantly watching BL series from Thailand, this is a drama that really catches my heart. The composition, songs and the colour tone of this drama is absolutely stunning. This is my first time writing a review as I really wanted to recommend this drama to those who had never watched it before. When you watch, you can really feel the tension/ love/ desire between the two actors. This drama reminds me of the time when I was young. If you are still considering on watching this drama a not, please do watch if not you will miss this masterpiece.

Wholly deserved drama series
talentreview117 November 2020
The story of "I Told Sunset About You" is a proof and recognition that love is inherent in our being and it is for everyone. No gender or identity or state is being recognized. It is also proof that we will do everything for our loved ones no matter what the consequences to ourselves. The love that this drama series conveys is truly a masterpiece.

The story, character and characterization, cinematography and original music of this show are quite fascinating. A kind of work that is wonderful, great and well-known series in the genre of "Boys Love" at the moment.

Proud and congratulations to all who make up this drama series. You have successfully presented your goals and aspirations to your viewers.

A Drama that didn't quite turn the Corner
davidgcthuss16 March 2022
I Told Sunset About You started off very dramatic with much potential. The very first scene, the audition scene seemed to set up the show in a professional manner of fine film direction. However for me this series failed to keep the interest and investment in the story high and I only managed to get to episode two. Even though the characters and the central premise and conflict of the story are set up nicely, the writing failed to flesh them out enough for the long run. The characters quickly turn out to be flat as the only trait that defines the two main characters is their love for acting and their very much dramatized childhood dispute over who got the main part in the school performance. Their everyday lives seem very one sided as well, as everyone is purely aspiring to get into university and therefore nearly all of the dialogue gets spent talking about studying and exams. (Still maybe the reason for this is just Thailand's school system, but what do I know?)

The story itself has a lot potential but the way the series was directed reminds me of the classical early/fresh director case with a director who cannot properly communicate his vision and tame his artistic expression to put a continuous piece on the screen. At times I wanted to jump out of my seat because of a feeling which I can only describe with the German word Fremdschämen, which best translates as the feeling of shame or cringe on someone else's behalf.

I believe a lot of it could have been saved in the editing room. Some shots are way too long and create a fake dramatic look, ruining the actually quite good performance of the actors. The choice of music also doesn't help. It turns out guitar strumming music and piano jingle-jangle in the background that sound like copied and pasted from copyrightfreemusic.com only betrays the drama and gives everything a very cheesy, cringe backdrop.

Still I also don't want to wreck the composer's self image but I must say I really was thrashing about in my chair and laughing out loud, like when watching the latest trash reality-tv. It really pulled me out and ruined the drama for me.

To the director's and the series's defense I have to remind you at the end that I only watched the first two episodes. I was looking for interesting gay dramas out of the Asian region and had some really good ones like Your Name Engraved Herein or Endless Summer from Taiwan but I really don't know into what kind of subgenre I accidentally stepped here because I am really surprised about the ratings that are definitely a few notches too high for this series.

Best show I have ever seen ! A work of art
milabetemps19 December 2020
I Told Sunset About You is the show that I didn't know I was waiting for, the one that put the bar so high that nothing can compare. It is not only a BL or LGBTQ story anymore, or just a coming of age series. It is a work of art. It is relatable and true, and beautiful in every way: the colors, light, cinematography, music, story, all of the characters, backgrounds... I could go on and on. This is love, and life, family and friends, past and future, heartbreak and reconciliation and everything in between.

This is the reference we should all have in terms of stories and cinema done right.

The best BL series in 2020 (or ever?!)
florencesitu28 November 2020
Honestly, this has immediately became my favorite BL series / the best BL series in my heart. Nothing much to say about the plot, I feel like it's somewhat typical, the main difference is just the way that they present the story! Everything is so on-point! The scenes are so artistic, the shooting locations are perfectly matched with the story background. The colors of the series are great, it gives like an ancient SouthEast vibe. Both the actors are soooooo good at what they do, I can see some awkward parts, but that didn't disturb any second of my viewing experience. They are kind of new actors, so I can see there's definitely a bright acting future ahead for them (if they can cry more beautifully ahahahaha). Throughout the series, I can feel how much work the team has put into it, and they've surely created a masterpiece!!! I recommend this to everyone! Go watch it!!!

Amazing Chinese elements and music
xuhanxin29 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was so surprised for Chinese elements this series offered, they make very great Chinese music and Chinese words explain. I love the song, "skyline" so much. i don't know what it is in Thai, but for Chinese it's very very Chinese. i have never seen any other country can make thing so good of another culture. i love Teh and Oh-aew, they are so good couple as well as bk & pp.

I told sunset about you, is a story with a boy who has a secret makes him anxious and he don't know how or to whom to speak out. he can only speak to the sunset, because sunset will listen to him and keeps it as a secret for him. it's a story about coming of age and pure love between two teenigers. so romantic. we will never forget the summer about Phuket and these two boys with coconut smell.

come here, go away
smoothhoney12656 November 2023
Teh and Oh-aew meet under weird circumstances as kids and are best friends ever since. When a conflict arises - Teh's dream is to become an actor, but it his best friend who is chosen to play the main part in the school play and then tells him that he wants to become an actor, too - the boys separate.

Their feud lasts until way into high-school. Both plan to apply for an acting school and meet again in a class for Chinese. Having the same circle of friends, both boys grow closer again. And even more?

I decided to watch this drama after "Tonhon and Chonlatee", as I was in the mood for another childhood friends to lovers series. And it does have potential. For exactly three episodes.

I love how their story was told from the childhood on. I love how they, after hating each other for so long, grow closer. I love how they come closer. And then it all goes downhill.

Teh, albeit being the more mature and serious one, apparently loves to play the game of "come here, go away". If you are not familiar what this is: It's when a person tries to get closer to another person (in a romantic way) but for some reasons (mostly insecurity about their feelings, ignorance or just pure evil) pushes the other person away at the same time.

And so, Teh is always seeking Oh-Aew's company and closeness, but whenever Oh-aew opens up about his feelings and tries to get closer to Teh, he is pushed away again, suffers and cries. Besides, while growing closer to Oh-aew, Teh pursues a girl at the same time. I swear, the central relationship is bordering on toxic.

Speaking of crying: Honestly, the last two episodes are unbearable. There is so much crying from both sides that it gets to the point of being annoying. Billkin and PP Krit are both wonderful actors and also good at crying but it is just too much.

There is also an interesting storyline in this one: Before he falls in love with Teh, Oh-aew has a crush on one of his close friends, Bas. Bas is a friendly, gentle soul and after a while it becomes apparaent that Oh-aew's feelings are very much reciprocated. They go out for a while and it's a beautiful, healthy relationship full of love and tenderness. Alas, this is a BL and we all know how it will end. Against all odds, I was hoping that Oh-aew and Bas would end up together, I was simply in love with their love.

Let me sum up the more beautiful aspects of this drama: Like I said, the beginning is filmed beautifully. I have to compliment the cinematography of this one in general. The music is beautiful, too. And I love how on the one hand they use modern technology for all the main young characters to communicate with each other and express their feelings (through Instagram stories, for example), yet on the other hand the series has a vintage vibe and at some points reminded me of Your Name Engraved Herein.

For all the positive aspects: 6/10 stars. But, I'd rather recommend Tonhon and Chonlatee for a healthy childhood friends to lovers series.

The most beautiful BL ever made
joaquinerana9 August 2021
I told sunset about you is an amazing BL. In the first chapter we have the context of the relationship of Teh and Oh-aew and we see the development of that relationship into love.

This series has really beautiful characters like their friends and their families. Teh´s family is really pretty and his brother and mother are really supportive in the series.

The relationship between Teh and Oh-aew is simply pure, beautiful and youthful. The spectator can feel the love between them all the time and enjoy with them. Also, the soundtrack is unforgettable, with the marvelous voices of Billkin and Pp.

An amazing classic of BL, so pretty and essential yo watch.

Poetic Masterpiece + Visual Feast + Poetic Masterpiece
chankaikong27 November 2021
I Told Sunset About You is not only a poetic, beautifully shot and well-acted coming-of-age movie with thought-provoking motifs, a nostalgic and breathtaking set, a captivating soundtrack which matches the scenes perfectly and the charismatic leads whose chemistry is superb and whose facial expressions and body language can sincerely and effectively convey their characters' pent-up emotions, but also an important love letter to the LGBTQ young people who are repressing their sexuality and experiencing excruciating pain just because they are different. The Phuket town is a stunning sight. Coconut can still be smelt. The back scratching scenes touch my heart. Savoring noodles cooked by the people who love you is a joy. The singing, the bursting of firecrackers, the silence still linger in my ears. This artistic masterpiece appeals to my five senses and it will definitely stay in my mind for a lifetime.

How all BL's should be like
carolinalopezzzz28 December 2020
As an avid consumer of thai BL I can without a doubt say that this was my favorite. The script is written and well delivered. The greatest thing is that it addresses the problems that thai BL's tend to overlook. So by being more about the real issues of loving someone of the same sex and discovering one's sexuality it makes the viewer engrossed in the story. There is endless teasing and the chemistry between the two main actors is incredible. Side characters were a little overlooked and at times not so well developed (the brother and mother of teh). But overall is excellent work and I'm anxiously waiting for its second season.
