Too much and too long
harowil24 August 2022
This is a very much needed and edifying story. However, the protracted details of every negative experience and the drinking was unnecessarily rubbed in our faces. The first one would have made the point; further incidents should have been much shorter. The drinking episodes should also not have been exacerbated by overexposure! It was so bad, that I stopped watching. I am a recovering alcoholic and this showed "me" way too much. If the makers of this film wished to have an impact on the horrors of alcoholism, this was NOT the way to do it. The film could easily have been half its length and if it had been done more viewer-sensitively, I could have seen it through.

Christianity vs Religionism
kspkap18 August 2023
I gave the movie 6 Stars because it's telling the true story of a police officer who took to the bottle instead of quitting the police force. The moment he took that first drink because he couldn't handle what he came upon, he should have resigned. Police officers across this nation face hell every day, but they continue doing their job. Sure it affects them, but not all go off the deep end. He was the type who could have become another Derek Chauvin.

I believe telling his story put our police officers in a bad light. It was akin to his statement about "coffee and donuts. Did he actually believe that's all police officers do? It's a way to pass the time? It's all guns and roses?

To the reviewer who didn't give any star. I am a born again believer in Jesus as my Savior, but I'm not "religious". All manner of beliefs can be construed as "religious" including satanism. An atheist can be religious. You get my drift.

To the reviewer who gave it 2 stars and apparently doesn't live in the USA, you missed the whole point of the movie. It's about finding your way back to or just finding God our Creator. Why you watched the movie is puzzling since you don't believe in God. You think of yourself as a god. To use your words "we believe in ourselves, not some God." BTW, not all Europeans believe as you do. It's also apparent you don't like the USA or Americans. What does being an American and living in the USA have to do with this movie? To your way of thinking we are ignorant fools and beneath you.

Good, bad, and ugly
Vinny3710 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A true story. Good things should only happen to good people, and bad things only to bad people - if God is and is in control. Well, that's the juvenile micromanagement motif Jonathan held as a youngster, leading to agnosticism, since God didn't micromanage, breaking Jonathan's illusion. As a police officer, tender-minded Jonathan moved into slavery to alcoholism to drown his on-job stresses, even cheating on his wife and daughter, and getting to the pitch of contemplating suicide. A fellow officer witnessed a number of times over the years about the power of Christ to break chains of slavery.

The film comes across to me as a basic evangelistic message, with the story is backdrop, not vice versa. I prefer films the other way. It does factor in reasonable realism, which is good, and is quite emotional at points. It does not present Christianity as a magic fix, but as a 'magic' ingredient in the fix: that is good.

Regarding prayer request, there is request to Jesus the lord, request to the lord as meaning God yet speaking to God about God as a third party. There's request to God in "God's name". That is a combination of misdirectionalism, misvisualisation, and misunderstanding.

There is frequent drawn-out tones, oppressive to my ears.

This movie has the power to change lives
glatztracy9 May 2022
This movie contained every single element required to not only captivate an audience cinematography wise, but to also demonstrate the miraculous healing power of Jesus in a highly realistic way. Hooked from the opening scene, I was taken on a journey through the heartache, pain, and trauma that police officers are exposed to. By seeing their struggle in such a raw real way, this has absolutely awakened a newfound respect in me for the men and women that serve to protect us. More than that, it got straight to the heart of the issue around Christian skepticism and the big questions that so many of us battle before finally surrendering to the light. Overall, this has hands down been one of the best Christian movies I have ever watched.

A Nice Plot Ruined By Overbearing Sound Track
kadzirange0918 August 2022
The plot had all the makings for a decent Christian film. Both the lead actor and the wife represented a good pairing for the story telling, and overall the visual cinematography is good and with some very nice shots.

But the use of music and sound in the film borders on abusive. It completely destroyed the substance of the whole movie. Unbelievable use of sound. Not one scene was allowed to be just the fluid experience of dialogue or emotion with an accompanying soundtrack.

It became so irritating to the point of infuriating.

A scene does not need to be overwhelmed with sound at every instance.

This story is a mess
mike-4247619 August 2023
Ignacyo Matynia delivered a solid acting performance as the main character. I sincerely hope he has a great career ahead. The rest of the movie is a dumpster fire of cinema. The story execution and writing flaws are massive. It lives in one dreadful depressed tone of awkward and disjointed moments for far too long in the film. I do wish this well intentioned story of redemption was pulled off better. The fact that it was based on a true story makes it more unfortunate that it was lacking in so many ways. I do not recommend this movie. Watch a movie like "Courageous" for a much better execution of movie making and an uplifting story to leave you inspired.

The world needs far MORE stories like this one. This film is absolutely powerful, moving and full of heart & FAITH, something that is sorely lacking in American culture.

See it ~~~ you'll love it!

Believe in yourself.
VargKorp10 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I could spend an hour reviewing this movie but I'll make it short. Prince charming chose to become a cop. The training made me laugh cause all they did was running around with their guns. Maybe that's how it works in USA, i don't know. Here, a police studies psychology. But to each their own i guess. Once the cop starts to see death, he blame god. Here people believe in themselves and takes responsibility for their own actions. This cop starts drinking in order to drown his pain. Here people in that situation make sure to get professional help. You get the point. It's self pity and religious. I guess they try to prove a point but it's difficult for me as a European to relate to all of this. There's basically no murders and definitely no guns where i live, and we believe in ourselves, not some God. If you're an American watching this movie you might be able to relate more, and maybe you'll find it good. But as for me this is as far from reality it gets. Personally i give it a 2. But I'm not saying it's not worth watching if you live in USA and you're religious. This is all I'm gonna say, ofcourse things happen in the movie but i won't spoil anything.

And note: This is an honest review. I am not sarcastic by any means. This film was just not for me.

This is a movie you have to be emotionally prepared to watch
Break Every Chain is a brilliantly acted, inspiring film. However, I want to put out a warning: it's very sad. The premise of the film (which is a true story) is a police officer who receives a promotion. In the beginning he's on cloud nine, but he soon discovers his job entails going to the scenes of car crashes. This causes him to become depressed, and he starts drinking excessively. He and his wife also suffer an immense tragedy. The combination of burnout from his job, the loss he experiences in his personal life, and his alcoholism lead him spiraling into hopelessness. He finds himself angry at God. This movie might be hard to watch for some people. It started out on a positive note, but then one awful thing happens after another. I didn't watch to the end. It was late at night, and I figured this wasn't the best movie to be watching at nighttime. I like going to bed with happy thoughts. Honestly, I prefer Christian films over secular movies. Hollywood doesn't portray people's interactions realistically. Some people might not like Christian films because they're too real, in which case, I suggest watching when you're in the right head space. I hope I'm able to catch the end of it one day, preferably during an afternoon.

Slow pacing but speaks to its audience
bart20221 July 2022
For being a low budget production it's well shot. It's definitely for the faith based audience and preaches to the choir. The story could be tightened and much of the melodramatic music and scenes could be cut. A stronger script would have helped but it's still a worthwhile watch.

This film grabs your attention from the first scene and holds it through to the end. The cinematography is breathtaking. The performances are stellar and emotional. You really feel what Officer Hickory and his family went through. If you, or someone you know, are struggling/have struggled with addiction, depression, trauma, or suicidal thoughts PLEASE watch this movie! There is hope and light at the end of the dark tunnel!!

An impressive drama
OldMovieRob3 February 2023
While not Citizen Kane and not without some faults, including a little melodrama, this was still an engaging and enjoyable story of redemption. Well acted, and I do enjoy seeing Dean Cane in whatever role he's in. The lead actor, Ignacyo Matynia did a fine job in his role of the conflicted police office struggling with the dark reality of his job and turning to substance abuse, then ultimately finding redemption. And, you know, I couldn't help but think he looks like a cross between Jensen Ackles and Adrien Brody. Also, reading his name makes me think, "Hallo, my name is Ignacyo Matynia, you killed my father..." etc.

Wowww...This film was so intriguing and inspiring throughout! I definitely recommend for anyone struggling and has struggled with addiction, like myself, to let them know that there Is Hope in Jesus and Healing Is possible!! Heartbreaking? For sure, at times. Raw and honest? Absolutely. But still definitely worth the watch in my book! Loved this movie and the messages portrayed here! 9/10.

Excellent depiction in a short time frame of the tremendous impact of continuous suffering felt by police officers on any given day. The need for resilience and spiritual healing is an absolute must and this movie shows how to get there. Stay safe Jonathan! God be with you always.

This movie is an awesome testimony of the healing power of Christ!
itisallthelord8 May 2022
We walk around this world with an outward appearance that we are tough enough to take on anything, when in reality our only hope is Jesus Christ. This film showed how the strongest people are still vulnerable. Loss and tragedy take a toll on every person. God bless Johnathan and his family for sharing this redemption story with the world. Please watch this film and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

This movie will absolutely change a life - possibly yours!
tamberrino13 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have a personal connection with the main character, Jonathan, "running" alongside of him during part of his journey. This movie was so incredibly well made, as to describe the pains and the rawness of the situation. At the same time, the transformation over time brings truth to light - and not in a traditional religious-movie "campy" way.

I'm grateful to the writers and the directors for doing such a fine and loving job with the story. It's worth the watch for anyone.

Incredible!!!
ckdkhbxc13 July 2021
Break Every Chain is an inspiring, true to life story, of a police officers journey through life. The struggles faced by these special people that have chosen law enforcement as a profession come to light. This movie is an inspiration to those that watch it and a testimonial to the power of faith.

The director, and incredible actors, did an amazing job putting one mans struggle with personal, and professional, demons on film. Ignacyo Matynia absolutely nailed this role in his portrayal of Jonathan.

Incredible, inspirational, heart wrenching!!!!

Will help God work in and for the lives of First Responders for many years to come. They have a serious and often thankless ( or worse) job.

Hopefully change the message and bring a little peace and love to them. We love them. We prat for them.

We Need More of These Movies!!
joannlouis3 December 2021
Looking at this now on Pureflix and it's good so far. This movie gives a great view into the lives of police officers and the struggles they face daily. Even better to see a believer who prays to God even during the challenges, death, and the destruction of this fallen world when he sees murder, rape, robberies, mental illness and other evils constantly. Praises to the Most High God (Jesus) for more spiritually based movies as we NEED them more than ever to help bring people back to the TRUE GOD. To also help usher in salvation and deliverance for the broken, lost, and backsliders. Amen!

The Cross before Resurrection
dantonioronnie9 November 2021
I was profoundly moved and absorbed by this film. Jonathan's story is heart wrenching. A number of times I was moved by my own emotions to the point of tears. How much courage it took to face his demons and have the grace and courage to open himself to the Lord and to ask for forgiveness from God , his wife and his family, go workers and friends. IGNACYO Matynia's performance was flawless. His eyes said it all. The caliber of his performance and natural acting abilities is truly a God given gift. He is destined for many good things. Thanks to all for this gift of hope and faith.

I was meant to see the movie...
jodituttle24 February 2024
This movie was 100% realistic to my life. For those who do not agree, then they have never experienced what alcoholism can do to a marriage. I could relate to the entire movie. This exact marriage was how I was living. My spouse running his own show his entire life. Me running my own show during our marriage. I am married to an alcoholic spouse who cheated on me with men because he was confused in our marriage. Don't recommend being bisexual! We're both now working out our marriage. I plan to show my husband this movie. It was that good and I still think about it as I too had chains in my life I am now breaking. I recommend this movie to anyone! I also recommend listening to Zac Williams Chain Breakers. My life has changed because of this movie and am so thankful for God.
