An inside view of the Bollywood stars' lives seen from their agents' lives
msunando10 November 2021
Shaad Ali directs this lighthearted, frothy and glamorous series about the lives of the agents of Bollywood stars offering a sneak peek into the actors' lives too. Its the spinoff from a French TV drama by the same name. Our protagonists all work in an agency called ART that boasts of managing the accounts of several actors, some of whom make friendly appearances across the 6 episodes, mostly representing quirky situations and dilemmas, and how the agents "offer solutions" to resolve the conflicts. But that apart, these agents have their own lives too, and we get to see some complications surrounding their professional and personal aspects.

Rajat Kapoor (Monty) and Soni Razdan play the two senior agents, whilst Aahana Kumra and Ayush Mehra are the relatively junior ones with each of them having their own portfolio of clients and an assistant. When a young girl Nia (Radhika Seth) lands up in the office of ART, she makes Monty extremely uncomfortable as he fears that their relationship may open up a can of worms. But Nia is adamant that she also wishes to be an agent in her professional career and promises not to reveal the secret. The problem arises when the majority shareholder, played by Tinnu Anand in a cameo appearance dies, and his wife deciding to sell off the company, making the employees all insecure. Simultaneously, a tax auditor lands up in the office and is hell bent on finding account misappropriation, throwing the company into an existential crisis.

It makes for a fun and frothy watch. Dia Mirza, Laura Dutta, Farah Khan, Lillette Dubey, Ila Arun, Jackie Shroff, Sarika, Akshara Haasan, Ali Fazal, Nandita Das and Richa Chadha play guest appearances. Whilst most of the stars appear to have contrived problems, Dia Mirza plays an ageing artist who has been asked to do a plastic surgery to bag a Hollywood role, and comes across as a determined and principled actor who sets her own terms, even if it means losing an opportunity, and stands out in the series. Aahana Kumra has an important role but tries too hard to play the user cool, metrosexual agent, coming across as loud, unnecessarily agitated and foul mouthed. Rajat Kapoor is poised, serious and credible in his role, whilst Soni Razdan looks tired. Radhika Seth gives a dignified performance, but Ayush Mehra is certainly the scene stealer as the Parsi agent with a heart. Suchitra Pillai makes a strong presence with her no-nonsense role, and Jackie Shroff is svelte.

Watch the series with an open mind and for fun, not expecting it to enrich your knowledge or enlighten you in any way.

Glittering
sameerlodaya30 October 2021
With a bundle of stars this series is glittering

As this is the remake of the famous series the makers have tried hard to match the standards The story is unique and viewers who haven't seen the English series will enjoy to the fullest

The sets are mind blowing with stylish costumes extravaganza star casts will entertain you in a new way ..aahana rajat and others have played their roles very well..the humour is definitely new with cool emotions

As Netflix is a international brand they will portrait this kind of different and high standards entertainment you have to adopt your self to real ott content

Definitely a watch.

Worth the time

It's entertaining enough if you are looking to watch an Indian series. Good comedy touch with drama. I don't understand why people get so critical about every aspect in a show. Enjoy the show for what it is.

This show will serve as a blueprint on how to not adapt something.
raffayhusayn30 October 2021
I am a massive fan of the original french series. It has heart, emotions and comedy all packaged together in a nice, easy to digest show that doesn't demand you to pay a lot of attention. This adaptation, however, seems to be a massive oversight on the part of the writers. The script is incredibly shallow and lack any sort of depth. The dialogue are trite. The shift in tone from the original series is surprising, I go even as far as to say that it feels like an afterthought. The attempts to include the typical bollywood tropes seems really hacky and to no one's surprise extremely unfunny and vapid. The performances weren't as bad as the script but not good enough the save this disaster.

A bad remake
jatinbirajdar30 October 2021
I generally like to start reviews with the good things but to be honest this show other than introducing the general audience to the original has no other positive things going in it's favour.

When I saw the first episode of the French show I thought it would be fun to watch the bollywood version of that because of all the name dropping and other references we would get of bollywood that I completely missed out in the French version.

Not only did we not get any good bollywood references or inside jokes. This series even fails to mimic the emotions the original show was trying to portray.

Writing - We know the plot works as we've seen it work in the original show. So what fails here is the dialogues. The dialogues feel like literal translations of the English subtitles. Also the fact that the shows is dubbed later and the on set sound not used makes the dialogue feel unnatural.

Art - The set feels very fake. The lighting is not natural. The backdrop in the windows are clearly fake. Maybe I'm nitpicking too much but it bothered me atleast.

Actors - The curly haired assistant is the only one who worked for me honestly. Even though the cast is star packed the show fails to make an effect like the original did.

Direction - This is where the shows lacks the most. The one shots and the lack of cut aways instead of elevating the episode really ruins the important emotional points in the show. Also bollywood is synonymous with mumbai so not using mumbai in main scenes and just using them as transitions really lowers the quality of production.

TLDR; Non existant name dropping, bad art, bad dialogues and most importantly bad directing makes this show a very bad remake of a good show.

Absolutely, the worst of everything. Period. Since the review requires at least 150 characters, let me reiterate, absolutely, the worst of everything.

Glittery, Flashy Sassy implusive Drama and I loved it
zainawanmuhammad4 November 2021
Just finished Binge watching the first 6 episodes and can't wait for the remaining to be released. I am not sure why ppl are bashing the show and Shaad did a pretty good job. I haven't seen the original ( french one) nor do I intend to. I loved the turns and twists. Amazingly we get to see some great stars playing themselves and showing the way they have to go through the work situations. Dia Mirza, Ila Arun, Jackie Shroff, Lara Dutta were absolute treat to watch after such a long time.

Loved Ayush Mehra. Radhika Seth's performance was pretty good too. Rajat. Soni and Ahana kept the game high. Some of the situations are actually right where us the PR Managers and Managers of these celebs have to go through this in order to keep our jobs safe. Been there done that

The first part of the series is a mood lifter though. Those giving negative ratings, please learn to enjoy the entertainment produced. Our public hardly fancy about the issues you guys mentioned. Yeah it's a bit controversial showing the lesbians making out and for the fact actually kissing the but hey it's rated 18+

Watch it for once atleast.

A Delightful Web Series
cseabhi26 May 2023
"Call My Agent: Bollywood" is a delightful web series that will keep you hooked from the first episode. Set in the glitzy world of Bollywood, this show takes you behind the scenes of a talent agency, where the agents work tirelessly to manage the egos and demands of their celebrity clients.

What sets this series apart is its clever writing and witty dialogue, which keeps you entertained throughout. The storyline is engaging, and each episode leaves you craving for more. The talented ensemble cast delivers brilliant performances, bringing their characters to life with authenticity and charm. You'll find yourself invested in their personal and professional journeys.

Yes, this has its flaws and it do gets boring sometimes but still you are hooked to the series. I don't understand why the rating here is so low, this is definately not boring.

Ruin the original's name. Bad adaptation, bad dialogues , bad acting and the most important very bad direction. You. Can Hardly watch 10 minutes. It's too dull and boring. Don't know how the director got the project to direct the remake of this renowned series.

Pathetic

Episode 1: the scene where the intern quits is possibly the worst acting I have ever seen on TV. Ever. It is unfortunate that this series could have been something meaningful.

Probably one of the worst series produced by Netflix?

Who is approving their Indian content?

I mean.. not engaging at all. The story, writing and the whole vibe is depressing!

90% of the reviews here are fake.
jatinbirajdar18 November 2021
If you look closely you can clearly see a pattern in these fake 9-10 rating reviews.

Mostly are 1 paragraph. Taking about one of the actor in one line. Then tagging @netflix india. Without going in any sort of details. For genuine reviews sort the reviews by date and look for the oldest reviews posted here.

Terrible. Don't know how people were able to completely watch the series. Acting is mediocre, dialogue delivery is awful and overall the show was not able to grab my attention.

Cinematography
chakrabortyratnam31 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The story is Damn good, even the actors are our favourite but actually it needed a more work on the cinematography. And the character Mehershad played by obviously our favourite Ayush Mehra was a Parsi and the thing is when he said that Jasleen watched him in Sudra!! That was not like normal cause Parsi people don't mind if somebody watches them in Sudra and even Nancy in the last episode watched him in Sudra but he didn't mind and like that only I didn't liked some few parts and some casting like Instead of Soni Razdan they could've casted Sheeba Chaddha and is Jignesh actually Rohan Joshi?? It didn't seemed like that but anyways love this Series and I hope ki Film ka Second Half ekdam Superhit ho!

Useless
rehmankhilji7 November 2021
Completely useless from the very start. Though big names were included in this series, but rather giving some force to the show, the show has certainly is giving their stardom a negative impact. Completely, stupid, without a hard story, no strong performances and this unnecessary inclusion of new Bollywood love for LGBT is simply ridiculous.

A complete waste of time.

Must Watch
sdfftvkkx4 November 2021
The acting and dialogues were good! It's a mix of comedy and drama which keeps you on your feet. I think most of the bad reviews that people are giving is due to the lack of being open minded. This series is different and unique.

This show helped give us a glimpse of what happens behind the doors in Bollywood. Overall I would say it's a good watch!

call my photocopier
maulajatt9 February 2022
There's a scene in the second or third episode where farah khan wants to direct these actors in the movie, and seeing their intensity during the audition, she exclaims something like, we are making something commercial, we only want to scratch the surface of the emotions you are showing. And that's it. That's the entire series. They have commercialised the original series to such an absurd extent that it makes you wonder why did they insist on copying not just the plot lines, but the dialogues, word to word. What works for paris doesn't necessarily have to work for mumbai, which is not a bad thing; better stories could have been written, keeping the same characters in mind. Instead we get a ham-fisted xerox of the original, that really makes you question the point of watching this when the far superior version exists just a click away.

Worst show
sarath334721 November 2021
This show will never be close to the original French one. Actors are so overacting and so much dramas. Its like watching one of those hindi TV serials all over again. Expected much more standards for shows from Netflix. Its clearly showing bollywood is losing all the good acting shows and stories and even good actors.
