Dubbing not an issue.....
techmaniis5 December 2021
People rating this due to the dubbing need to learn how to read. It is an option with Netflix to watch in original language with subtitles. Here's a hint. If you hate dubbing and subtitles don't watch foreign movies.

Logic falls apart.
Nemesis422 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This started off pretty well then ended up shooting itself in the foot in the last half with heavy failures of logic. When it comes to the point where we must decide who to blame, it's ultimately the islanders to blame for inviting tourists to the island in the first place. In the real world, with a situation like this, the locals would not let strangers in. The logic of the story falls apart because of this - It becomes too unreal. If they had explained why tourists were allowed, yes that would enhance the story and provide depth and satisfaction, but no, nothing, they left it out.

There are smaller items that don't make sense, like why isn't every local armed?

I thought the depiction of the Elves was well done within a low budget scale.

Great story, terrible acting
diescobarmdq29 November 2021
I kept wishing that the annoying little girl get eaten by the elves.

The story and idea is great, the setting, the music and the slow reveal of the creatures are amazing. However, the acting... Especially that girl was terrible. She did everything you should not do.

I was really rooting for the monsters to get her.

A wasted opportunity
moveafrica29 November 2021
Imagine having a great concept for a fantasy horror show and ruining it with cliched characters and bad acting.

Here's a plot summary: People get killed because disobedient child thinks murderous monsters are pets.

Missed Opportunity
deedrefuhrman29 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This could I have been a great series. But instead I couldn't get past how stupid everyone behaved and the ridiculous relationship between the parents and children. Frankly, I was all for sacrificing Josefine for me that would've been the best ending.

Dark Danish Tale
Pairic30 November 2021
Elves: A Danish horror series, a family from Copenhagen go to a remote island for Christmas. This is no ordinary isle, the locals are keeping a secret, the local forest creatures , the Elves, are kept behind an electrified fence. Cattle are given as sacrifices to appease the wood dwellers. The tourists upset the balance when the tourist family daughter, Josefine, tries to adopt an injured infant Elf. The adult Elves are like burrow dwelling killer apes they bite out throats, feast on their human prey even while they still live. Quite dark and the horror level is certainly adult even if the intended audience is teenage. Reminiscent of The Wicker Man in parts but here the locals are unwelcoming and warn the family off from the start. Directed by Ron Ezra with Stefan Jaworski as head writer. Six 25 minute episodes on Netflix. 7/10.

This movie could have been a 7 or an 8 star....but
Otte129 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, wow, wow.....what a wasted opportunity. This could have been a great fantasy horror movie....instead it wasted every opportunitity to be watchable.

Problems.

1. Ever character is a cliche'. Each actor is acting to the most stereotypical personification of their cliche'. The no nothing father, the over-protective and unaware mother, the horny teen and another younger teen that acts reta...excuse me, on the spectrum, the villianous townspeople who speak in code, etc...

Plus, the usual suspects 1. Kid that does something entirely stupid that causes deaths.

2. Parents that never seem to be around or notice children are missing.

3. Entire scenarios that would be avoided if someone just said a couple of words.

4. No security at a place that needs to be secured.

5. People doing things alone when they should be a group.

6. People who arrive at the same destination walking as the other people that are driving. This happens often.

7. People who only walked 100 meters or so are somehow many miles away and cannot get back.

8. Dumb decisions by every single character to create the plot devices.

9. Major portion of dialogue is people screaming other people's names.

I really really wanted the main actors to die because of level of stupidity displayed. Hint. You can watch this movie in fast forward with sound off and know exactly everything that happens and possibly enjoy it more than watching it normal.

Perfect example of when a stranger thinks they know best
eprusulis28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show is a perfect example of when a stranger things they know best they take something out of nature and try and make it their own pet like people who pick a little gorilla or a lion out of nature try and make it there on pet and then wonder why things happen and instead of realizing that everything can't just be free and don't ask anyone questions they cause massive problems and people get hurt because of them basically were tree huggers always do.

spoiled family ruins an island balance and traditions
loloimdb4 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At first, I was telling myself that there would'd been a morale to this and that Josephine would end up alone, all of her family killed, or being domesticated by the elves and becoming their pet.

But sadly, it seems that the morale is that spoiled kids and rich city tourists can F... wherever they want and get on with it.... Too bad, I was expecting something darker and more unconventional, coming from a Scandinavian tv show. Again, another Netflix cr...p.

Elves
Tweekums8 December 2021
This Danish series is centred on a family who are holidaying on a remote island. When they arrive they ask how to get to their accommodation and are advised to take the coastal road; the father decides to ignore the advice and takes the road through the islands forested interior. Here their car hits something. Josefine, the daughter thinks it was a creature of some sort but her father insists it was just a pothole. When she gets out of the car and heads towards a large fence a local calls her back. He tells the family that the road is private and they should leave immediately. Later Josefine returns and finds a strange little creature; she takes it back and cares for it. When the locals learn that a creature has been taken from the forest they worry; it would appear that it is a baby of a very dangerous species; the adults of which will be angered.

I thought this series was rather fun. There are only six episodes, of twenty five minutes, so it can easily be watched in one or two sittings. The story is fairly simple but effective. I liked the idea of a Christmas movie about vicious elves... a bit like the monstrous Santa Claus in Finnish film 'Rare Exports'; if not quite as disturbing. The setting is good; an island automatically adds a sense of claustrophobia and explains why these creatures might not be widely known about. The cast is solid; as there aren't too many characters one is unlikely to ever get confused about who is who. The effects are good; thankfully the makers didn't feel the need to show the adult elves too early on; keeping them mysterious added to their creepiness. Overall a fun little series that is well worth watching if you want something a little darker at Christmas.

These comments are based on watching the series in Danish with English subtitles.

Juvenile but fun show!
imranahmedsg20 February 2022
Elves replace zombies in this Danish childish thriller. Childish perhaps but good fun for adults too.

The plot revolves around a family visiting a remote Danish island inhabited by meat eating elves. The adventures of the young daughter starts a series of unfortunate events and .. you'll have to watch it to know the rest!

DUMB PEOPLE SHOULD DIE IN THIS TYPE OF MOVIE
jdbrunette28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It is oldest concept in horror and scarry movies like this, the dumbest, loudest most ignorant people usually die first. It is sort of a punishment for being a dummy. In this half ass attempt at horror genre, the dumb people survive and all the local strong hero characters die off. A big swing and a miss for the writers indeed. At some point in the movie you are actually cheering for the elves to catch and kill a member of this family, especially the stupid daughter. Sorry, cant get behind a movie where the dummies survive. Must have been written by a millenial.

Discipline your children
A7sus4@aol.com19 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Basically a selfish family brings their spoiled daughter to a secluded island and she ruins everyone's lives while her parents attempt to shield her and themselves from that truth. No characters are likable except Karen who seems to be the only character capable of facing reality. Sadly in her attempt to fix what the brat child has done she's overruled by her own family and left for dead. Evil and selfishness all around in this one.

Mixed feelings - creepy, but too slow, too drawn out, and a little too convenient writing :-(
stevebondi1 December 2021
Creatures were interesting (puppets and CG), and creep factor was pretty good. But, could have made it better as a movie, and with a bit tighter writing. Some content is just not suitable for the long form of TV series.

I wanted everyone to die in this
snigdha-dk5015 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted the elves to kill the whole family and munch on little Josefine's bones. I would have rated it 10 stars had the elves killed at least one member of the most annoying family ever showed on television. Just a bad series overall. Please skip.

I liked the elves
RuxandraV28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A family is renting a cabin on an Island, because usually they ignore their kids because of work, and now is time to finally bond. Of course this explains also the fact that the kids are rebellious. As the mother refuses to buy her girl a dog, she now will want an elf and for that she will wreak havoc among the island. We all wanted to free the animals in the zoo when we were little, without a plan for after the gates were open, so I found that plausible. Motherhood is tough and scary so it is easy to forget basic things like making the kids wash their hands after they just killed an Elder. The father is just plain. And of course you would like to take a small elf into the city and not leave it in the woods, so that when it grows and is hard to control, to do what the people usually do when they adopt a small monkey, bear, puma , eagle, turtle etc. I would have found it more interesting for the girl to remain with the elves for balance to be restored, maybe Kee-ko would have helped her survive with them in the woods and the island would have reached balance again. She would have remained the last Guardian of the Island.

The fact that this annoying little girl wasn't eaten by elves is very disappointing,it would be the one and only thing that would save this series for me.

Could have been so much more...
andrestnt8 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not too bad, but could have been a really good one. Good story in general, it's sad to see that apparently there Can't be a good horror movie or series without someone making some stupid decisions.

I hated Josefine in general, stupid and stubborn ended up causing a mess to that clam community.

Not too good
robiics28 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually looking forward to this show, I quite liked the trailer when it was released. What do I think after watching the season? The opposite. Josefine should've been elf food. She was unbearable and so were the parents. The most likable characters were Liv (and maybe even Karen, her grandmother), oh... and Kee-Ko, the CGI elf. The whole script could've been written in 30 minutes.

NOT EVERY show has to be a Shakespearean play or BIG BUDGET FILM, this was ENTERTAINING!!
joiningjt3 December 2021
I love the elves especially the little guy the acting is mediocre at best but it's a low budget production about evil elves so you're not going to get Daniel day lewis to star in it. The dubbing doesn't help either but we watched all 6 episodes and binged them only 6 episodes and only 30 minutes each so it was easy. Wish it would have been 8 1 hour shows they could have done so much more!! We're hoping for a season 2 as it just started to rick!! Lately we only like shows from other countries American shows and films have become so plastic so cookie cutter so Hollywood so ehh!!

Not bad. Weakest point was the lead character
assenal27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was better than I was expecting. The graphics weren't bad at all. The acting by everyone involved was good.

The weak point most notable to me was the lead character Josephine. Her actions and decisions were not acceptable from the start. I know she was a child but she wasn't 6. She befriends an animal she knows nothing about. But takes it home anyway. She ignores she took the animal from its family. Even in the final scenes she was still looking to take the baby with her, showing she had learnt nothing from what had happened throughout the series. Several people died because of what she kept doing.

The final scene of the baby under the car coupled with the fact Josephine has learnt nothing makes me think she will keep it under her bed in silence until it outgrows her and goes on a predictable rampage starting with her own family. She is as dangerous as the elves themselves.

The actress played it well. Just the character was a bit too flawed to actually be likeable.

This series has no spine.
Lilith_i8 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If it had some sense the girl would have died just like the guy with the gun.

Or the man with the keys would have open the gate for the family and just let them enter.

Actions meet consequences.

We wanted to like it so much.

Jose does not have the maturity to have a dog, let alone understand that the elf she had is not hers to keep. These people are so infuriating. "How can we help you?" "Leave!"

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
nebohr17 July 2022
If the father had followed the coast road as he was told then he would not have run over the baby. So everything that results from that action is the fault of the father, not the daughter.

Josefine is a kind -hearted girl who feels it is her duty to rescue the injured baby.

Unlike the Josefine character it would seem that many reviewers are quite the polar opposite: cold -hearted and unsympathetic.
