Studio Ghibli animator, Eiji Yamamori, designed the monsters. Yamamori has dedicated his work to his late brother. He was a big Godzilla fan and passed away before the anime was completed. In designing Godzilla, Yamamori said, "I aimed to integrate the image of the early Showa Godzilla and at the same time, create a new look"
The first domestic Japanese Godzilla production to be produced and released in Japan's Reiwa era (the dynasty of Naruhito, which began on May 1, 2019).
As is tradition, Japanese fans have already given the Godzilla design a nickname, GyuraGoji, which is derived from the title of "Shingyura" and "Gojira". The name SPGoji has also been suggested.
The ending sequence contains numerous references to the characters and protagonists of past Godzilla films.
