Intense movie!
Manny_Garcia23 April 2009
The movie is a cross between Romeo and Juliet and Scarface! I recommend you watch the movie with a date.. There is something in it for everyone (everyone except young children).. Great cinematography... Wonderfully scored.. the music pulls you into the movie.. A very intense movie in some parts.. The tension and energy continues to builds until the very end.. The movie leaves you wanting more... The great thing is that this is a prequel to "7 Kilos" yet I believe there is still room for another movie since you really "Can't Kill a Dead Man"... It'd be nice to see where the story of the Danny Ortega character goes before "7 Kilos"... Great movie though and Danny Trejo performed to his finest and stills holds the record as Hollywoods favorite Bad Guy...

Solid crime drama is worth looking for
dbborroughs3 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Danny comes out of prison after serving 17 years for a justifiable shooting in his youth. He tries to make an honest living but finds that the change in society and his neighborhood have made it impossible and soon he is sliding into the life he sought to avoid. Solid crime drama is the sort of small gem that makes suffering all the other small independent crime films I sample worth enduring. Well made. Well acted (any film where Danny Trejo gets to do more than look mean is great in my book). Well written , this is the sort of film that makes you sit up and go "Where did this spring from.?" Looking much better than the DVD case makes it out to be this is one of the more entertaining and solid films I've seen in a while. Honestly I figured I'd pop the film in watch it for fifteen twenty minutes and then take it out, by duty to at least try the film done. However I made it to the end before I knew it. I made it to the end, intend on seeing it again and recommending it. I like that the film has weight and a sense of place. I like that all of the characters seem real (or real enough). Its a solid little B movie that deserves your attention. Its worth a look especially if you tire of big bloated blockbusters or small independent films that either all look the same or are too intent on being different. This is the real deal, a solid crime film that doesn't shoot for the stars rather it tells a good story that makes you enjoy the 90 plus minutes its on and curious about what happens after the credits role. Recommend for those wanting a good B movie.

Must see movie
castadoc23 April 2009
The movie is great, it has it all, action, romance, comedy, ACTION all done in with great acting and most of all with a really good story line. I really recommend watching this movie. The movie is shot in San Antonio and Houston and takes advantage of the the beautiful sceneries and skylines of those cities. Cinematography, done by Eugenio Cañas is excellent. The special effects are awesome, these were done by AJ Garces as well as some of the make-up. The movie is based on true accounts of people, "friends" that we all have that were willing to share their experiences with the writer of how the drug world really is. The movie is fast paced where it needs to be and diligently slow at others. One thing that is different in this movie from the others that Pablo has done is the musical score. Douglas Edward really brought the movie together and gave it the feel of a high budget movie, very professional. As usual Danny Trejo is up to his usual antics as the "bad boy" and doesn't disappoint his fans. Keep an eye out for the Lead actors Manuel Garcia and Marian Zapico I'm sure you'll be seeing more of them soon.

Not for The faint of heart
mudblood201223 April 2009
The start of this film captures the true lost and distant emotion of a man who lived his life incarcerated, which is often overlooked in gangster movies. But The boys of ghost town definitely wont hold back on the shock and suspense that is expected of a classic action flick. Leading man Manuel Garcia's performance as 'Danny" was emotional and sincere. Marian Zapico filled her lead role as "Natalie" with the perfect essence of a broken woman, The lights seem green for the strong talent, its safe to expect great things from her. chemistry between the cast is undeniable, it seemed like true friends woke up one day and decided to make a good looking film. Director Pablo Veliz is further defining himself as someone to be taken very seriously in the film-making community, with names like Danny Trejo notorious bad guy behind his back one can only wonder where the path he has chosen will take him next. The Boys of Ghost town is another interesting look on where desperation can take a man ((or woman)) if I had to sum it up in one word it would be intense. With that said this movie is not for the faint of heart, so send the kids to their room kids bring your tissues plenty of popcorn or whatever your poison and strap in for The Boys Of Ghost Town.

Boys of Ghostown
ellobocarnal23 April 2009
The Boys of Ghostown starts off with the young Danny Ortega getting out of prison. It is the reality of one who tries to do better on the outside but society rejects him. As with all people, he happens to have a great friend, Corando, who hooks him up with a job. His true love happens to still be around and they wind up falling for each other. The evils of the world coming knocking, as Corando's client wants a hook up with some drugs. Danny is compelled to make a few dollars and gets involved. There was many good moments in the film. I was fortunate to be a cast member in this film. Having Danny Trejo be a part of it was very special. I think it was directed very well. Pablo is a great Director and I hope to work with again in the future.

great film - excellent music
redjewel200010 November 2009
After listening to the soundtrack, I had to see this film. The Boys of Ghost Town was extremely well done - from acting to cinematography to post production to music & all of the film's facets.

The characters developed well and the score complemented the film in a way i didn't expect. The compassion for the character's internal struggles was enhanced and exemplified in the music & each character's theme - but not through heavy guitars and hard hitting drums.

The score, orchestral (featuring beautiful female vocals and a duet at one point) rather than rock, had exactly the right amount of varying emotion and the right amount of cutting edge when needed, being in the moment of the film; rather than consistently high impact (as so often seen with action movies).

The musical fluctuations created consistently more of an impact than a "street fighter" type of score would have. The music was a classification of high impact all it's own with it's intentional complexities (ranging from subtle to intense), but never going over the top, and always being exactly what the film needed at the exact moment it needed it.

I would recommend this film to friends. Great job to all involved.

See the movie!

Warning: Spoilers
Pablo Veliz does an excellent job interpreting Manuel Garcia's screenplay. The movie is filled with action and interesting plot twists that keep you glued to the story. The setting is in Houston, TX in the Barrio. A small boy defends the honor of a little girl and ends up paying for it by going to jail for 17 years. When he comes out, he tries to go strait but finds out with his record, he isn't going to make it where he wants to be. Turning to a life of crime seems to be his only way out. The actors give great performances that rival some of the big name actors, not to mention some of the big name actors doing their bit! This movie is definitely a must see!
