The episode's title, La Ronde, comes from an 1897 play by Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler. The play explores sexual morals and class ideology, themes that are at the center of this episode.
Hank says to Cokie Smurf and Runkle, "You are going to be stronger in the places that are broken". The quote is from Farewell to Arms, and goes, "The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry."
