The soulmates in the title Ahn Mi-so (Kim Da-mi) and Go Ha-eun(Jeon So-nee) who meet at the age of eleven and immediately hit it off. One is outgoing and brash and the other thoughtful and reserved but together they bring each other comfort and strength. All is going well until a boy is added to the mix and they become estranged. The movie follows their lives for sixteen years and no matter how far they drift apart they each have a constant longing for the comfort they have in each others company. It is a very well acted movie and the pacing is slow and thoughtful and draws you into the everlasting friendship of the two leads even though at times it seems broken.

Delicate portrayal of friendship

What happens when 2 friends start living apart in their own life full of struggles and hardships, with a lot of dreams and ambitions to be fulfilled. Soulmate manages to tell the story of this friendship that changes or develops the characters over the course of their lives. The beautiful chemistry of a great bond is elegantly displayed by Kim Da Mi and Jeon So Nee.
In essence, the film focuses on the story of the characters' personal journeys and transition from adolescence to adulthood. The movie captures beautiful stills of Jeju Island and the nostalgic BGM makes it more pleasant to watch.
My Rating : 7/10.

This movies is based off a book and also there's a Chinese version (original) of this movie released on 2016. Kim Da-Mi is one of my favorite actress despite her excellent performance in every role she does. There's something about her expression that feels so real and connectes so well. The key highlights of this movie is the story and camera play, you will feel the old vibe of Jeju island.

Beautiful storyline with strong acting

Soulmate delivers the sweetness and pain of friendship. Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee's chemistry makes me feel a strong bond and deep emotions.
The cinematography is very beautiful and warm giving a lot of impression of the good old days in jeju island.
I love the details used in this film such as paintings, earrings, and several other things that really support their story.
The narration is neat with several twists until finally being slapped with a very bitter reality that makes me feel broken, sad, and miss my best friend.
At the end we know why they really deserve to be called "Soulmate".

Soulmate is such a beautiful take on friendship and what it truly means to have a soul mate. I cried a lot watching this movie just because it was so beautiful. Kim Da Mi is a brilliant actress and this role solidifies her ability to take on anything but who stood out for me was Jeon so Nee, her quiet charm, the ease of her gentleness on screen captures the role she plays just too well.
A well-directed movie, the merge between past and present never left you confused and even the cliffhanger parts were played out correctly too, Give it a watch if you've seen "Beaches" or you just want to watch something that will stir you up.

I cried for like 2 hours after this movie and took a nap because I just didn't feel like doing anything but thinking about the film.
The acting from both Kim Da-mi (my favorite actress) and Jeon So-nee is immaculate. They carry so much emotion on their faces and convey the characters feelings perfectly.
The score is just wonderful. Every bit of music pieced throughout the movie is done so so well.
The storytelling is captivating and extremely well-paced. It builds a believable and lovely relationship between the two characters and gets you easily invested.
I've seen this film three times now and it gets better each time. The drama is believable and realistic and fits the characters experiences. You don't see movies this good that often. 10/10.

Movie is awesome. The story is so real, so deep, that it makes you to wipe out a tear or a few. Great movie about real friendship, deep and meaningful life. It is full of beautiful moments and dissapointments. Its about real emotions, like friendship, love, anger, dedication and lots other. Kim Da Mi was on fire - so good acting. She becomes one of my favorite asian actresses.
Movie is slow paced, step by step leading you till the peak, which is real emotional bomb, exploding your mind within a few astonishing moments. Playfull, emotional, sometimes sad. Some heroe's actions were questionable, but overall - movie is a great choice 👍

Love as a mix of empty and lonely feelings

I haven't read the book nor watched the original movie yet. I plan on doing it now tho.
Well, I understand why some people won't say It's a perfect movie or anything like that but tbh I just felt so much while watching that I can't put It straightly in words.
Soulmate brings you a narrative about friendship and love in a different view. I think thay If you pay attention to the smallest phrases and moments you'll get just how deep some people can be in other's life and how human relationships are way more complex to understand.
I just couldn't help but cry over and over as I felt so much in which piece of this. I kept thinking just how can we live hoping that dreams and thoughts hold us to the very end. The narrative made me go back in all the thoughts about giving up or not wanting to keep going but you just feel, you can't say this movie hasn't make you hope to understand a truly relation and real feelings.
It was just too hard to not hold in the perspective of how empty the life can be while watching. I highly recommend this movie.

This completely missed the mark on what made the original so effective and unique.
Not only there is not even a single element that came close to reaching the high bar set by the original, but it further butchered its effort by resorting to typical melodrama, without strong direction behind the camera to interweave the elements into something cohesive and extraordinary. The nuance and the details are all lost in translation. It's clear that they struggle to understand the essence that separates the original from other coming-of-age tales.
The acting by the entire cast was very solid. All of them did their best with the material given. The writer actually sprinkled some fresh snippets to make this remake distinct but the execution was not up to standard. The cinematography is uninteresting, the editing is pedestrian, the direction is bland. There's no style.
In my opinion, this is a remake that fails to realise what made the original special. Please do not waste your time to indulge in and entertain this kind of mediocrity.

While watching the movie I just lived as the character.i felt each and every emotion throughout the movie.this movie reminds me that "every movie shouldn't need a happy ending". But from a different view I felt the happiness because her friend is living through her in the world till her death. She made her dream come true by becoming her soulmate without any hesitations. Every character in the movie had a specific role and they are portrayed beautifully. This movie reminds me how soulmates are made and how they escape from the reality through their imaginary world which they had created.where one is following a step which was lead by her soulmate.

I liked the sentences also I liked the message of this movie as well as Iunderstand the slogan was about even you live dissapointments be happy,live with the person who is the make you happy,live despite everything,be free,do what do you want,there is no guarantee of your tomorrow.if you live like that life will be better for you. Goddammit...the movie is amazing, lovely, and moving, but why make such a good and beautiful movie, only to have it end like that? It's heartbreaking...I love Korean filmmaking, but I sometimes really want to slap them in the head and tell them to knock it off already with their weird, cultural obsession with sad and unhappy endings in EVERY movie that isn't a romance movie...Why do they always insist on being miserable? Why? What's so good about that? How is that satisfying in any way? I don't know where this is coming from, but they have serious issues when it comes to this particular aspect...I really want to give this a 9, because it was so good, and made me cry several times, but the ending left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth...
