Documentary about the Exploitation Cinema
In German-speaking countries, the Bahnhofslichtspiele were what the grindhouse cinema was in the USA: second-rate venues in which exploitation films were shown. This interesting documentary offers a short journey through time through the history of exploitation films, which have been very popular with audiences from the beginning of cinema history. Quentin Tarantino has been making it clear to us for 30 years how influential this has been on all of our viewing habits. The cinema is somehow still a fairground attraction.
Insightful interviews with John Landis, Fred Williamson, David Hess and many others, plus great examples from eight decades of "exploitation" cinema. Mention should be made of gems such as "Freaks" (1932), "Psycho" (1960), "Deep Throat" (1972), "Jaws" (1975) and of course the grindhouse double feature by RODRIGUEZ and TARANTINO from 2007. Man You'll notice that these seemingly outlandish films have moved more and more into the mainstream over time.
Very enlightening!
